Today I learned that Leonardo Fibonacci just used the rabbit illustration as an example problem to answer in his book that was about introducing arabic arithmetic to italian merchants. Not as a pattern in nature. Like at the end of a math chapter it has little problems that, if you can answer, you've got the gist of the chapter. Also, fibonacci wasn't his name... it was given to him by a historian guillaume libri in 1838 and that wasn't even the name he gave him. Filius Bonnaci was the name which means son of bonnaci. All my life i've been lied to!

thank you for proving my sent me to a biased reference. Your not getting it...we are not just talking about bees but bees that levitate for miles away from the hive, load up 90% of body weight with pollen, then levitate back miles to the hive in a straight line around 30 mph with no drop in speed regardless of load...they are not flying. Levity is stronger than gravity and it exist in creation everywhere. All you are doing is proving that you stick within fixed circles of thought....this was my original point when I said you stay in school and do nothing else. And in response to your query regarding the universe being created with was. Again you prove the creationist point..thank you.

    • macsnafu
      macsnafu 1 год назад

Or maybe this article will more directly address your bee comments:

    • macsnafu
      macsnafu 1 год назад

No, it's not clear that the universe was created by math. If the universe can be described by words, does it automatically follow that it was created with words, or that words are the universe's true form? Geez, type a line or two, and suddenly someone thinks they know everything about you. I certainly had no idea you were a creationist from the comment you posted. And by the way, scientists finally have figured out how bees fly, and, BIG SURPRISE, it doesn't violated the laws of physics. Here, for example, is an article from 2006 talking about it. Don't like that article? Do a Google search; there's plenty of others. Now I'm sorry I gave your comment a thumbs up.

    Nature cannot make anything!
To make something requires intelligence. So unless nature is a thinking and reasoning being, then nature did not make mathematics or the sequence.

However, if the sequence was made, it was made by a thinking and reasoning being, we might call it God.

When you said that you get the same number when dividing almost all two successive Fibonacci numbers (1.55), I was a bit confused because I always thought that you never get the same number as the ratio- it approaches the golden ratio as the numbers in the Fibonacci sequence get infinitely large? I think I get what you mean because they become very similar when the Fibonacci numbers you use get very big, but their not the same, right?

After years of watching CrashCourse i decided to watch this math video and i see this guy and think "lol is this john green? looks like him but i feel its not" so i check out the comments to find out the name of this guy cause i've seen him in CrashCourse but i just blanked and couldn't come to terms with it. found out its hank green. searched him. found out his brother is john green. my world is complete. Life makes sense. (no wonder he looks the same but different in crash course videos.)

what i learned the most from this video : hank and john are brothers and more than 1 green exists and hank lives in montana and the Fibonacci sequence was made 1300 years ago in India.

I hope that one day you too can solve life and feel wholeheartedly complete with a simple math video - 3 min 19 sec of your life.

My last comment on this thread. Evolution cannot be demonstrated with empirical evidence making it scientific theory not fact. When I say evolution, I am referring to macro evolution where a species actually becomes another or changes types.

    • Gary a
      Gary a 1 год назад

+Ian B Even the pope accepts evolution as fact, because it is a known fact (unless of course you live in some parts of America or West Asia)
The Big Bang defines (in science) 'the initial inflation of the universe'.
Understanding either of those things doesn't require any faith at all.

Also, you misread. I didn't say 'one could easily accept either theory', nor did i mention anything about the origin of life. I said reinterpreting things to be compatible with your own predetermined beliefs doesn't make your beliefs true. As you have demonstrated.

    • Ian B
      Ian B 1 год назад

In response to your last paragraph, I agree that one could easily accept either theory of the origin of life. Nor evolution/big-bang theory nor the existence of God can be proven according to scientific standards for validation. Both require some level of faith to believe one or the other ;)

'Math was invented by a little something called Nature' said this man.
"Nature" an unintelligent nonliving imagined mother nature... that does not do anything, doesn't manage anything, but Nature follows the established laws, governed often by electromagnetic forces, but other fundamental forces as well in nature.

The infinitely intelligent being created things like this to point us to him... but we choose our response. This is His goal, to reveal what is in our hearts.

Romans 1:19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God,
they neither honored him as God
    nor gave thanks to him...

"Math was invented by Nature" – Math is a human construct, so not sure if that is really correct.

Which leads to the question: did humans discover or invent math??

    • BijouxZhero
      BijouxZhero 1 год назад

+floralundies Just because it is not sufficient for the purposes of your argument and not helpful to your line of thought doesnt deem it untrue or unworthy. Natural is any object derived form nature by denotation. If you would like to say that math is was created by a non-human realm, sure I can address your contention as you seem to want.

It is a two way street. Math is a set of abstract interpretations and methods as applied to non human realm in most cases (I wont get into the cross over for the nature vs human issue). There is no meaning to the method or its iterations without subject matter. In that sense yes, I agree with the fact that it is bound by nature (non human)... I wouldn't say it is solely that though. Again I see it as a two way street in that case.

+Schwarzer Ritter I agree wholeheartedly with this but there is of course the possibility of an alien species who's perceptions are so different from our own it might be hard to make that connection. In an 11 or 23 (or more) dimensional universe it is possible we may meet species for whom time isn't linear in the same way it is for us and suddenly the stick is 1, 2 and 3 pieces at the same time.

The way numbers are noted is made up by humans. The Arabic numbers are not the first way of notation. Even the base of Arabic numbers, ten, is arbitrarily chosen.
But whether you say: "I have 3 apples", "I have III apples" or you break off pieces of a stick, show it to someone and say: "I have this many apples" does not change the fact you have 3 apples.

+Matthew Kemp There is no evidence that an alien uses the same numerical system as humans. The concept of "1" is not necessarily universal (in the most literal sense)

+floralundies I'm sorry but that's ludicrous. If an alien looks at a star in a solar system they're going to know that there is 1 star. Not 0 stars, and not 2 stars. With that being the case you're already enabling the possibility of binary logics and therefore other math is able to be interpreted.

The Fibbonacci sequence can start with any two numbers and still accomplish the same thing. Somebody reply and give me 2 random numbers.

+Evan Knowles Not really. For example 5 and 5. The sequence will continue with 5 , 5, 10 , 15 , 25, 40, 65 etc. For example 65/40 = 1.625, which isn't Phi, but it is close. If you're looking that way, any sequence can work that way. Give it a try, even with larger numbers. Only with Fibonacci sequence we get to The Golden Ratio.

I think this is the only scishow episode EVER i didn't learn a thing. That's not because the video was bad; I just had to write a 20 page paper on this all and read about a hundred pages getting my source info. (I am meaning to complement Hank; he is brilliant, just like his brother.)
