Long post, I got one just a month ago, the fun begins but loving it, paid a little more than 6200 but mine is the Lux. edition and I think it's in a little better shape than this one, sometimes you just need to pay a little more. It's better to get one that doesn't need as much work, as you'll find out with repairs. And if you are going to buy one anywhere, then buy one in the south, less rusting issues not in the north where there's more salt on the road.
Water in the footwell. Could be leaking a couple places. Sunroof, there's a tube that runs down thru to the front fender well, have to blow out the line with air. Or it could be leaking from under the hood cowl and then it comes in thru to the cab. If you've got water on the passenger side it's most likely coming from a rubber gasket that's bad. It's a cheap fix with Flex Seal tape, something you can do yourself.
Yeah, people like to say it's a Tahoe, they don't really know any better. Those that own these or do a little research know they were actually built at AM General factory, yes with a lot of shelf parts by GM, but that also makes it easier to work on too. It's got a solid motor, I'd have to say, and this is from a Ford guy.
There are a few weird things about the Hummer H2 that I've found.
    1. Duel climate control. Why would anyone assume it would be a good idea to have these split up on the left and right side of vehicle? If you were going to do duel zones, which really 1 is fine, but why would you not have it front and rear?
    2. AC won't come on. Snow flake flashes and then goes out. If you think you're AC isn't working and the snowflake goes out, what is the temp outside? It seems GM thinks it's a good idea to have this protection feature where the AC won't engage the clutch unless it senses it's hot enough for it, regardless of how you feel inside. Would be nice if I want the AC to manually be able to do that, but no. Not sure of the exact temp but I believe it's over 60, 65 deg. minimum. Haven't discovered the exact temp yet.
    3. Daytime running lights, can't manually turn on. GM is big on this daytime light feature. There doesn't seem to be any way to turn these on manually, you know if you want to use them as fog lights. I will say though that they really thought out the lighting other than that, for entering, exiting the vehicle. I've replaced nearly all my lights now with LED's and you can have them come on when you remote unlock or lock, nice feature.
That's about all I can think of for now. Mostly though the H2 is awesome. Again, people say it's not a real Hummer. If it were a real Hummer aka H1, it would have costed over 80k originally. This was a nice civilian SUV-version compromise. There is plastic up front, but so do the H1/M998's. They all have fiberglass hoods. And what car, truck suv hasn't had plastic parts up front or elsewhere since the 80's at least?

I honestly have to say, sad so say so many people hate the Hummer, ever since little, this has been my favorite big car.
I am just awaiting for one day to buy one used, even if old, but for the sake of a car to drive on Sundays or so.
Keep it up Tyler, its your money, buy whatever you want and enjoy having.
To be honest, after having bought so many cars and brands, a Hummer is more like buying a gift for yourself comparing the fact you have a Mclaren an so on.

I feel sorry for you for buying that POS. My Uncle worked for GM ehen they started building Hummers. He told me they were death traps for soldiers. He and everyone on the line told the higher ups the Hummer was a mistake and shouldnt be built. Of course the government signed off on them and soldiers were killed and maimed in them . When GM then came out with the H2 he was retiring and laughed at those things. The only one buying them were gang bangers and government workers that thought they would look cool. They got horrible mileage. GM has had problems with instrument issues for the last 15 years. The motors go bad in the cluster. Eather way, they were a wreck. The mechanic was right, they are a?Tahoe framed nightmare. The crusher would be the best bet for that.

The water in foot well is probably a clogged or disconnected sunroof drain tube open up sunroof spray some cleaner into the draintubes in the corners and if it pours into car take pillars off and check for disconnection, if it successfully goes on to ground them they are just clogged keep pouring cleaner and water maybe some compressed air into tubes until it drains stronger. Ur welcome

Ok! At 3 minutes and 48 seconds the garage guy says the real ones don't even say Hummer.
Here's a little education for you.
The "real ones" (Assuming he's talking about the original military version) don't say "Hummer" because they aren't Hummers, they are Humvees.
The original military version is a Humvee.
The civilian version of the military humvee is the H1.
The complete original military-inspired "Hummer" is the H2.
Then there is the H2 Sut Hummer.
Then there is the smaller (Moore Jeep like) H3 Alpha.
Then there is the h3t pickup truck version of the smaller alpha.

    • Andrew Kwan
Andrew Kwan 24 days ago +1

The original "humvees" are actually spelled HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), and not "Humvee". Most just call it "humvee" because the phonetic is similar enough to HMMWV. There's little difference between the H1 and the HMMWV. I think the front guard bar is aluminum alloy on the H1 and the hood is a polycarbonate? Whereas the HMMWV had steel front guard bar and a steel hood?

  • michaeldublg
    michaeldublg 24 days ago

Sorry, but he loses all credibility.
Contrary to ignorant belief, the H2 is not a Tahoe.
You cannot put a Tahoe body on a Hummer frame. They are completely different specs and designs.
H2S had their own separate factories having nothing to do with the Tahoe factories.
A stock Tahoe cannot do what a stock H2 can do.
Maybe this guy should educate himself a little bit more on what up H2 is.
I'm going to go ahead and restart the video now and give it one more chance.

Hey! I had an 87 Escort Wagon. I put 267k on it before trading it in. The dealer said it barely had enough compression left in the cylinders to run. I put 2 timing belts in it 2 water pumps...well basically...two of everything in it. The body was still not that bad when I traded I had great luck with Escorts. Dont knock them like that. My Uncle worked for GM and told me the Hummer and H2 were both piles of steaming dung right off the assembly line. He worked in the truck plant in Flint.

New here. Good buy. Yes, they break. But what doesn't? I have an H3. It goes anywhere. We are 1 mile away from Latir Peak here in New Mexico. Almost 13000 ft high. And the Hummer will get us close to the peak. There are roads.........trails?..........passes?...... Anyhow, this little bugger crawls up rocks called roads with no effort. Yeah, a land cruiser could do it for 80000.00 more than we paid for the h3.....but it better for 90000.00. They are like bulldozers. If you grease a dozer, it will crawl past your life time. Oil and grease. Hummers like oil and be cared for.

Dropping $4K into it isn't not that bad. Try an authentic military Hummer with an off road only title, at least $12K+ and you don't get all of the amenities one is used to. Add another $10K for basic goodies ( AC, Hardtop, decent doors, 4 nice bucket seats, a sound system ect. Labor, DIY, PRICELESS!!!!! )
    Still a nice ride!
