Well it wasnt surprising. Kutner said that he was depressed in every scene.

Kutners death has something like punishment for house but only for good because made him to realize he can not always control things, and if you are close to a person for 80 hours a week you will care you like it or not.

i think he just lost to much confidence, with the help of house and the guy who had cuddys bra, because he voted kutner, house said kutner may burn the hospital down and blah blah blah, i think it never would be blaming or sadness, he's feeling useless

"We should've picked up on something."
"This isn't our fault! None of us could've seen the actor playing him suddenly quitting before the end of the season!"

The thing about Kutner was, he had the same outside the box wisdom which is what Chase and House share. He takes risks, he doesn't care about ethics (as much), and he likes to solve puzzles.
For that same reason, Chase was the right person to take over House's department. But damn, what I'd give to know what would have happened if both Kutner and Chase worked together.

Just rewatched this episode only a few weeks after one of my very best friends committed suicide out of the blue and the potency of how this episode was put together is just astounding.
He was likeable, enthusiastic, loveable, successful and someone that you would never have even thought the need to “check in” on, because he never showed any of his pain on the surface - just like Kutner.
No “build up”, no answers, just nothing.
House’s desperate need for answers and Taub’s refusal to deal with his own pain until the end and all the ways each character showed their shock and guilt - we felt.
This whole episode was raw for me.
I cried hard throughout - a bomb went off in our lives the moment we found out. We never had reason to expect that one day we would wake up to this kind of heartbreak.
And the writers and actors in this show showcased our pain in a very realistic, very emotionally raw way.

I watched this episode last night and the way the blood puddle gets bigger and bigger and 13s heels slipping on it. And the music. Oh boy. Chills. I couldn't believe Kutner actually died 😭

It’s weird seeing House genuinely upset about this.

Kutner killing himself was completely unnecessary. Yeah, Kal Penn took a job at the White House, but they could have done LITERALLY ANYTHING else with his character and it would have been a better outcome. It's not like he couldn't come back sporadically, but instead, they decided to kill him off. While the abruptness of his suicide is well done and mirrors real life in what the act does not only to the victim, but for everyone else around them, it serves no real purpose other than to push House's character arc forward. It's a blight on an otherwise stellar return to form after Season 4's wild inconsistency.

This episode I missed during it's run. I was lucky and got to see it before I heard about it though. It rocked me because I had a co-worker/friend kill herself suddenly with no note or idea why. It was just over, she was gone. No nothing, no explanation, no note, nothing. She was 22 years old and a GREAT WOMAN. She had the kindest heart and the most goofy sense of humor. It's why we got along so well. She was my CSM at night while I ran the store. I remember she was a tiny gal. 5 feet. It was unbelievably warm, hot for 3am. She jokingly crawled into the empty ice machine for a break. She was great at messing with me and when I told her to cool it she did. I laughed everyday I saw her. We always joked and replayed that scene. I even got in there once. She got me to open up more. I wish I could have done the same for her. This was a very REAL episode. Olivia Wilde and Omar Epps were FANTASTIC. This show handled so many touchy subjects gracefully and with tact. Even bringing to light pill addiction. Or showing that ANYONE can get hooked. Even the prescribers. House ranks in my top 5 shows of all time. M*A*S*H is up there as well. House had every emotion but it didn't play as slapstick. It played as real and brutal as life is. Major RESPECT to David Shore the creator, and ALL of the ACTORS involved. Perfection.

Chase was the one who ultimately took House's spot after he left. But House always thought it would be Kutner that would take over his spot. House missing that Kutner was depressed affected house in a really horrific way.

dammit kal penn, it's your dang fault. quitting the show to work at the white house, and then you end up getting back into acting by playing a character... who works at the white house. i really think the show would've been slightly better had you have stayed. but whatever, i guess working at the white house is cool too, once in a lifetime type thing..

A lot of critics said that this was a rushed and lazy way to get rid of the character, but depression can be like that. Sometimes people kill themselves and you never saw the signs. Sometimes there was nothing you could do, and House is unable to understand that.
