Tonya Harding - 1991 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, Ladies' Free Skate

  • Опубликовано: 23 ноя 2010
  • Tonya Finishes first after being the first America Women to complete and Attempt a triple Axel. In my opinion this is top 3 greatest long programs of all time. It is still difficult to Today's standards.

I think that it certainly speaks a lot about American culture, that no one remembers Midori Ito, the first woman to land a triple axle in competition. Ito had a much more successful career, but no one knows her name. We all no Tonya Harding's, because she is white and she is American. Harding was a beautiful skater, but not the most illustrious. So I toast to Midori Ito, the first woman to land a triple axel in competition.

She was very very very good. To get lower marks because of her artistic impression. Was so unfair. Right now America has Bradley Tennelle Who is actually not a very great skater and her artistic is really really lacking. But yet a lot of people are praising this girl.

So, maybe it wouldn't hurt for her to apologize, to Kerrigen, for what her dipshit husband with his lunatic friend did, even though Tonya didn't have anything to do with it. What happened probably cost Kerrigen the olympic gold in '94. Even though Tonya was superwoman on the ice, she wasn't in her personal life. We all have to be responsible for what our spouses do, and our kids. Too bad she didn't take up boxing.... before she married that dope.

  • Sapphire Herobrine
    Sapphire Herobrine 2 месяца назад

I want to say to everyone else in this comment section whose defending her, that I, Tonya is an extremely bad, biased form of citation to use as an argument. Watch a proper documentary that doesn’t just take everything Tonya said as truth. There was another documentary on the scandal, wherein they interviewed one of Tonya’s closest childhood friends on the scandal, asking if Tonya did it. The friend said that she didn’t want to believe that Tonya did, but to quote her: “of course she did”. This is coming from one of her closest childhood friends. In that same documentary, they asked Tonya again whether she did it, and even with her denial, you can see the guilt written all over her face. And it makes sense. She wanted to win, and she was raised in an environment wherein people who were a threat to your success, could be taken down with physical violence, and cheating. This kind of fighting was normal to her. She was raised to see violence as a way to get what you want and so, of course she did it. With how close she was to the whole thing, there’s no way she couldn’t have known. Come on, people.
Don’t watch I, Tonya. I Tonya is a particular version of the events, and a lot of the events in it we aren’t even sure actually happened (since there’s a lot that only happened because Tonya says they did). It’s version of events is extremely biased and sympathetic, and it makes me cringe to see everyone fooled by the obvious emotional manipulation of that film.
Nancy Kerrigan is the real hero here. She was told after her knee injury that she wouldn’t be able to skate for the olympics. But she fought. She fought hard, until she was able to skate again, with only minimal pain. She trained really, really hard to get to the olympics after such an act by the hands of Harding. Is it a bad thing, or her fault in any way that she was a good fit for the skating world in almost every aspect? Does that make her a bad person? No. She fought to get where she got, and Tonya is the one in the wrong for physically hurting her to try and better her own placement. You people talk about Nancy like she’s the bad guy. She didn’t do anything wrong, and that’s true, regardless of whether you think Tonya did it or not. Anyone whose watched her face as she’s asked whether she did, can see clearly that she’s guilty.

Someone commented that had she not met her abusive husband or came from an abusive & poor home, she could've been an inspiration. Well, the way I see it, she still is an inspiration in at least three ways. 1) She overcame the odds & worked her butt off to achieve success as an award winning athlete. 2) She made money off her fame, even though it's been negative. 3) She didn't allow this stain on life & reputation to destroy her. She kept going on with her life & that's an inspiration all by itself.

I feel for her, her life she had no one ever to tell her how great she was she had to go out everyday and prove that, her father really should have stepped up he knew how awful her mother was, her coach should have contacted child services LONG ago, but then again would she have been the skater she was without all the emotional turmoil. I just feel for her she was so talented and no one can take this away from her.

      lsr asr 3 месяца назад

Actually, Alisha L, it was Midori Ito who was the pioneer. Midori 1st landed the triple axel in competition in 1988. Tonya was playing catchup by becoming the 1st American ans 2nd Lady to land the triple axel in 1991. Tonya was a powerful skater and when she was on shoe could compete against Midori. Problem was Tonya was only on in 1991. After that she went downhill never landing a triple axel in competition again.
