  • Tonya Finishes first after being the first America Women to complete and Attempt a triple Axel. In my opinion this is top 3 greatest long programs of all time. It is still difficult to Today's standards.

Nancy’s signature move was skating on one foot, while the other leg is in the air. Tonya’s became the triple axel. You just can’t compare them.

She was a phenomenal skater. Unfortunately, she got dealt a shitty hand of cards. Even though she is short, she is well proportioned & that worked to her advantage. She was strong as hell, determined & I can't imagine where she could have gone had she not had that sociopath for a mother and screwball for a husband. She did this with the constant abuse from her mother & her husband--just imagine if she had supportive people behind her what she could have accomplished.

I have a question for the author, TripleAxel1991. What are the other 2 long programs you rate as the top 3 greatest long programs of all time. How would you rate Tonya's skate above against Midori's 1989 NHK LP and Midori's 1990 Halifax Worlds LP. Also what do you think of Tonya's 1991 skate america LP in your ratings.

  • lsr asr
    lsr asr Месяц назад

This skate and Tonya's 1991 skate america skate are probably her 2 greatest long programs. In both, I noticed the announcers comparison of Tonya to Midori Ito. Scott Hamilton says in her skate america program at the beginning of her skate "She is so strong. Tonya Harding is the only woman in the world who can compete jump for jump with Midori Ito." In Tonya's U.S.championship skate above after she completes her 1st triple axel ever in competition, the excited announcer shouts "good girl. Isn't that great. the 1st time an american, only Midori Ito has completed a triple axel in competition." What are people's opinion on how Tonya compares to Midori Ito.

    • lsr asr
      lsr asr Месяц назад

Chris Coyne, excellent performance but not perfect. The 3A was tllted off center and the landing not perfect. A great performance though that earned Tonya the 1st 6.0 in technical ever given to an american lady. I think Midori's 1989 NHK LP was as perfect a performance as one could achieve. Midori's 3A in that skate was incredible and she earned four 6.0 in technical and one 6.0 in artistic. Watch it and give your opinion on it.

There's always going to be a critic. What I see in this performance is someone who devoted their life to skating and someone who set a record for the triple axel and skated perfectly in this performance. I don't get them saying her leg swung a little wide. WTF maybe they should try a triple axel and see how their leg responds. I've always been a fan of Tonya and I don't believe for a heartbeat that she had anything to do with Nancy Kerrigan's demise. I think her boyfriend did it and sadly they blamed her.

    • lsr asr
      lsr asr Месяц назад

Lisa Gignac, a beautiful performance but not a record for the triple axel. Midori set the record when she became the 1st female to successfully land the 3A in competition in 1988. Tonya was the 2nd and 1st american woman to do so. Tonya also did admit she was aware of something criminal her ex husband was involved with but did nothing and did not go to the authorities with the information.

I think that it certainly speaks a lot about American culture, that no one remembers Midori Ito, the first woman to land a triple axle in competition. Ito had a much more successful career, but no one knows her name. We all no Tonya Harding's, because she is white and she is American. Harding was a beautiful skater, but not the most illustrious. So I toast to Midori Ito, the first woman to land a triple axel in competition.

    • lsr asr
      lsr asr Месяц назад

well said Az Reddy. In Japan, Midori is a hero and remembered as one of Japan's greatest athletes. And Midori was also the 1st woman to land the 3A at the olympic games at albertville in 1992. The olympic channel honored that triple axel as one of it impossible moments at the winter olympic games. if you search in you tube "midori impossible" you can watch it. also if you search "tonya midori' in you tube you can watch a tv interview tonya did in 1991 discussing midori's skating and comparing herself to Midori and why tonya did not compete at the lalique competition just before the 1992 olympics.

true buffy slays. actually midori ito revolutionized ladies figure skating starting in 1988 and tonya helped to push it forward with this skate. Scott Hamilton in midori's lalique tournament skate in 1991 when midori is receiving her technical marks actually says Midori has revolutionized ladies figure skating. if you type midori lalique in you tube search you can watch it.

So, maybe it wouldn't hurt for her to apologize, to Kerrigen, for what her dipshit husband with his lunatic friend did, even though Tonya didn't have anything to do with it. What happened probably cost Kerrigen the olympic gold in '94. Even though Tonya was superwoman on the ice, she wasn't in her personal life. We all have to be responsible for what our spouses do, and our kids. Too bad she didn't take up boxing.... before she married that dope.

I want to say to everyone else in this comment section whose defending her, that I, Tonya is an extremely bad, biased form of citation to use as an argument. Watch a proper documentary that doesn’t just take everything Tonya said as truth. There was another documentary on the scandal, wherein they interviewed one of Tonya’s closest childhood friends on the scandal, asking if Tonya did it. The friend said that she didn’t want to believe that Tonya did, but to quote her: “of course she did”. This is coming from one of her closest childhood friends. In that same documentary, they asked Tonya again whether she did it, and even with her denial, you can see the guilt written all over her face. And it makes sense. She wanted to win, and she was raised in an environment wherein people who were a threat to your success, could be taken down with physical violence, and cheating. This kind of fighting was normal to her. She was raised to see violence as a way to get what you want and so, of course she did it. With how close she was to the whole thing, there’s no way she couldn’t have known. Come on, people.
Don’t watch I, Tonya. I Tonya is a particular version of the events, and a lot of the events in it we aren’t even sure actually happened (since there’s a lot that only happened because Tonya says they did). It’s version of events is extremely biased and sympathetic, and it makes me cringe to see everyone fooled by the obvious emotional manipulation of that film.
Nancy Kerrigan is the real hero here. She was told after her knee injury that she wouldn’t be able to skate for the olympics. But she fought. She fought hard, until she was able to skate again, with only minimal pain. She trained really, really hard to get to the olympics after such an act by the hands of Harding. Is it a bad thing, or her fault in any way that she was a good fit for the skating world in almost every aspect? Does that make her a bad person? No. She fought to get where she got, and Tonya is the one in the wrong for physically hurting her to try and better her own placement. You people talk about Nancy like she’s the bad guy. She didn’t do anything wrong, and that’s true, regardless of whether you think Tonya did it or not. Anyone whose watched her face as she’s asked whether she did, can see clearly that she’s guilty.
