If we invested in cancer research then the people who makes billions of dollars dollars off of treatment loses money.
Why would anyone cure cancer if you can just charge people to slowly maybe treat it?
Unfortunately though this video is good in theory. The majority of the people who has the money could care less about humanity gain and rather focus on self gain.
    Cool little fantasy video though!

This is why 'conservative economics' and 'Reaganomics' and 'Trickle-Down Economics' are COMPLETE FUCKING HORSESHIT!
Society does not improve if you SELFISHLY hoard wealth and money to the select few and then artificially impoverise and essentially ENSLAVE those below you.
It improves if we ALL work together to make things better.
I fucking HATE conservatives who scream "TRICKLE DOWN, TRICKLE DOWN, TRICKLE DOWN!!!" b/c they honestly don't realize that the same people who BRAINWASHED them into FALSELY believing the LIES that are 'Trickle Down Economics' are the people who are USING THEM for their own selfish greed.
It's too bad more people don't come and watch Kurzgesagt...if only they'd wake the fuck up and smell the fucking coffee.

good and true but vague very vague and doesn't explain a key issue, there is no explanation of how we will make these places/people less poor and more educated. Lets get one thing out of the way yes supplies are growing but still, there is a set value of supplies and people own those supplies this is important to remember. and now for him not to even mention who will distribute this wealth and education, who will say who get what, does everyone get some or do you have to work for it? how will countries do this, who's pockets does it come out of mine yours our tax money? Most everything is owned, so you'd have to take these goods from some one to distribute it to some one else, if it is not given by free will, this type of idea is nice to think about but when put into action well looks and sounds like communism and well...... we've seen how well that turns out i hope. i mean this sounds very one world orderish witch is red flag enough due to too many cultural and moral difference between countries to even make it possible. there will always be worst off people there will always be better off people within a free and fair society because people are not created equal. so to help the worst off people that means taking from the better off nothing is free and something has to come from some where.
always nice to dream but try to put it into prospective and not just have a fantasy land.

Get the logic, but it's very idealistic. Who's to say that we all share a common notion of what the future could/should be? Not everyone wants innovation, not everyone even wants peace. Then there's the whole historical past of the 'West and the Rest' which doesn't inspire much confidence.

We are NOT living in a positive sum game! Because in the society that we’re living in currently, the rich and middle-class are getting richer, however, the poor are getting poorer. Not one seems to care if Western countries continue to consume an excessive amount of resources?? Also the industrial revolution was probably one of the worst things that could happen to the planet. Industrial revolution is one of the main causes for climate change today.

This vid talks as if conflicts aren't still ongoing, and suggests that the world has already reached a stage where it entirely works together.
They could have at least mentioned it: "The world has stopped fighting for bigger slices of the pie, and has now turned to fighting for who can better innovate the larger pie."
And since our goals are still driven by that competition; we can't afford to simply think of the world as a whole, because it won't think of us that way; and therein lies your problem.
As long as we know everyone else is only looking out for themselves; we follow suit.
P.S. It also boggles me that the vid connects Education to Innovation. Innovation comes in all forms and sizes, and isn't limited to only those with degrees; so why act like you need to be educated to be useful?

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, if you simply do not grant the opportunity for others to not to succeed then they simply won't.
I once tried to explain a similar concept to my mum that, doing good is just good business, after all, if everyone was able to succeed or at very least afford medicine and eat they would then be able to contribute to society (human society as a whole). For example, if everyone could afford medicine then in the long run for a pharmaceutical company more people would end up buying the medicine and since to masses would get better and live longer they would then have to buy even more medicine.
But a majority of companies have so many different investors & partners that are only looking at short-term gains.
P.S. this is the first video of yours I've come across and loved the quality of the animation definitely going to subscribe. I'm also super happy I wasn't the only person to be thinking about something like this, though I am surprised a term for it wasn't coined, maybe "Egoistic Altruism" will be it. (that being said I'm definitely going to start using it)

But you have to remember even if you are helping humankind then you still are being selfish in a larger sense because we do everything for ourselves and to survive like when we heard that the earth was dying we came up with solutions that would halt/slow the processing we claimed that it’d help the plants and animals as well but in reality we just naturally have the urge to survive. I’m not saying that some people don’t want to genuinely help things other than humankind but the majority of us concentrate on our own self and than has to do with, once again, our orge to survive. I don’t really even know what I’m trying to get across any more but... there you go... I guess?

If 7 Billion people could afford to pay for a cure for cancer, then the price of curing cancer would increase. That's inflation. I'm all for rising tides lifting all ships and I hope that prosperity goes to all parts of the globe. But Kurzgesagt always gets it partially (this video) or fully (guaranteed income) wrong whenever they delve into economics. It's a shame because I love their videos but the economic videos seem to always leave out important components of economics.

It's a great idea, except that there's really only ever been one big pie, which consists of all the natural resources in the world.
If there's 7x as many consumers then natural resources are consumed at 7x the pace.
And ultimately everything we produce eventually becomes garbage (almost nothing is infinitely recyclable) so we're simply converting natural resources into garbage at 7x the pace. This is a positive sum game.
Jevons paradox illustrates that whenever we attempt to become more efficient (usually with the stated goal of consuming less natural resources), exactly the opposite occurs. We simply become more efficient at converting natural resources into garbage at an ever increasing rate. e.g. Adding insulation to your business's building, saves energy, saving you money, which you reinvest in the business, to produce more widgets (consuming more natural resources). Or.. buying a more fuel efficient car, allows you to live further from the expensive urban area, where on the same salary you can afford to buy a much bigger house (consuming more natural resources).

The world was only a zero sum game until the dawn of agriculture. Before then, the amount of food you could produce was roughly the same as you consumed. The amount of value you could create (value = a need or want) was roughly the same amount of value you consumed. Food was only gathered or hunted, and land had a set amount of food that replenished over a certain amount of time, so migration was necessary as the population increased.
Then agriculture was developed. This made it so that one person could produce enough food for 11 people. This resulted in 10/11 people being able to do things other than create food. They created other forms of value, like housing, or clothes. Farming also created slavery and animal husbandry - one person could grow enough food to support 10 other humans, or other animals, and thus slaves then became profitable - before agriculture, slaves were mostly impossible to keep, as you couldn't feed them.
I disagree with this video on land usage and agriculture - the world wasn't a zero sum game during times of agriculture, and there wasn't a shortage of land until very recently - 1,000 years ago. Very blatantly wrong.
Innovations kept being created, one of which was better agricultural practices, which made the 1 person able to farm enough food for 32 people, instead of 11. This further increased the amount of people able to do things other than farming. This number kept increasing. Agriculture is the direct cause of laws, civilizations, war, slavery, etc. Also the cause of all technology and modern pleasure.
Because of the innovations of agriculture, new innovations in other fields were made. With every innovation, the amount of value a person could create increased. The reason life is so awesome now is because every person can create more value then they consume. 1 person can create enough value for 10 people to be satisfied easily. Value is defined as something that gives someone pleasure. Food and other basic needs give pleasure, but so do things like gold, video games, TV, clothes, etc. With the creation of industry, one person can create enough value to satisfy thousands of people.

this is actually supported by the bible. in the Bible, God saw that people could accomplish anything they wanted if they worked together, at the point in time however what they wanted was bad. so he confused their language and thats the biblical explination for all the different languages. at first sight, it may seem like god punished us but he was actually helping us by spreading us across the surface of the earth. so it was for our own good that he held us back from being able to accomplish anything, now it seems we have come full circle and again we are standing at a point in time when we may be able to accomplish anything, but what will man turn to doing and will god have to come again to save us from ourselves, well the answer to that is in the book of revelation, long story short we don't do good when we have ultimate power.
this vid is good im not saying anything negative against it, we need people who are positve to keep hope alive, im only stating another view

Cool video. The part about curing cancer is not so correct. It doesn't require billions of people, and billions of dollars, and a billion years to find the cure to cancer. The cure to all diseases has been know for nearly a hundred years, maybe more. There are many ways to cure it, Dr. Royal Rife by himself discovered one way, Nikola Tesla another, and countless others. Just power greedy people suppress it's discovery, in order to make a profit from sick people.
