  • Driving Downtown - Seattle Washington USA - Season 1 Episode 17.
Starting Point: Pine St goo.gl/maps/Zy2dfghFHwP2 .
Seattle is a West Coast seaport city and the seat of King County. With an estimated 662,400 residents as of 2015,[2] Seattle is the largest city in both the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest region of North America, and, as of July 2013, is the fastest-growing major city in the United States.[6] The Seattle metropolitan area of around 3.6 million inhabitants is the 15th largest metropolitan area in the United States.[7] The city is situated on a narrow isthmus between Puget Sound (an inlet of the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Canada-United States border. A major gateway for trade with Asia, Seattle is the 8th largest port in the United States and 9th largest in North America in terms of container handling.[8]
The Seattle area was previously inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers.[9] Arthur A. Denny and his group of travelers, subsequently known as the Denny Party, arrived from Illinois via Portland, Oregon on the schooner Exact at Alki Point on November 13, 1851.[10] The settlement was moved to the eastern shore of Elliott Bay and named "Seattle" in 1852, after Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes.
Logging was Seattle's first major industry, but by the late 19th century the city had become a commercial and shipbuilding center as a gateway to Alaska during the Klondike Gold Rush. By 1910, Seattle was one of the 25 largest cities in the country.[11] However, the Great Depression severely damaged the city's economy. Growth returned during and after World War II, due partially to the local Boeing company, which established Seattle as a center for aircraft manufacturing. The Seattle area developed as a technology center beginning in the 1980s, with companies like Microsoft becoming established in the region. In 1994 the Internet retail giant Amazon was founded in Seattle. The stream of new software, biotechnology, and Internet companies led to an economic revival, which increased the city's population by almost 50,000 between 1990 and 2000.
Seattle has a noteworthy musical history. From 1918 to 1951, there were nearly two dozen jazz nightclubs along Jackson Street, from the current Chinatown/International District, to the Central District. The jazz scene developed the early careers of Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, Ernestine Anderson and others. Seattle is also the birthplace of rock musician Jimi Hendrix and the alternative rock style grunge.[12]

I spent a week in Bremerton from December 20th to December 28th. Visiting with my niece, nephew in law, youngest son & my grandson that I have seen the first time in over 15 years, last time I seen him was during my late daughters funeral. It was my first green Christmas since 2010. It sure beats the ugly, desert brown Christmas’s of Arizona. I visited Seattle, liked it a lot, it beats the damned Ugly,Fake,Phoney,Plastic,Smog City Phoenix area & the damned Ugly,Backward,Barbarian,Sh#thole,Excuse City,Sob Story City,Cheapskate City, Loser City Tucson which has the ugliest skyline in all of North America. Tailgating in Arizona is a sport & a sports event. Only 24 cities, towns & villages in Arizona has & enforces traffic laws. I’ll be so glad when I get out of that damned NO GOOD ROTTON STATE of Arizona which is the very worst state to live, work & drive in.

Alot of cities in the US have traffic light wires. I rather, personally, find it charming and full of character. I live in San Diego, California....but I find this location so dull and bland, neutral and uneventful.

This is Seattle on a Sunday afternoon when everyone is out of town on vacation. No traffic, no congestion, no pan handlers, no J-walkers shown. Different story from Monday to Saturday. Seattle never looks this clean and desolated throughout a normal week. Seattle is crowed, very dirty, homeless people urinating and defecating in public, and heavy traffic. This video should had been done during a normal working day.

I lived in Seattle for a while and I didn’t realize how depressed I was until I moved to California (Bay Area) sun is so important! Being able to walk my dog daily while you feel the warm sun and the cool breeze. I’m thinking about moving back to Seattle because of work and cost of living is lower in Seattle. But, I’m so scared of depression again. Maybe get a tanning salon membership will prevent depression?

I lived here 72 of 73 years. It's changing now very suddenly with over 50 cranes building and city population is going up too. But crime is up and prices of homes are so high other cities nearby are getting more population growth too. The entire state seems to be seeing growth of a once secret place. I think population is now 730k one report said. We have rich businesses and two richest men in the world now. But I'm retired and one of the poorest.

Compare to what we just saw in the "Vancouver Downtown Driving" video log, Seattle just looked old, lifeless and draw-back, while Vancouver looked more vivid, young, alive, new and more well designed and developed, and the people there looked more fit, young and healthy. All the streets in Seattle through the camera lens looked heartless and dreary. Same weather condition like what we saw in Vancouver, but Seattle looked more miserable with less energy. What a shame.....

    • No Brang
      No Brang 6 months ago

But whatever. Obviously you have a low IQ and don't pay attention. Seattle always wins. Vancouver looks nothing special. Do you hear? Now bow down and agree. Seattle looks cooler. You are just jealous

    • No Brang
No Brang 6 months ago +1

Old always looks better than new. What are you on? Seriously, do you know anything old has more character than anything young? Considering why new looks dystopian and rushed This is why Vancouver doesn't look as good as Seattle, it doesn't have that historical charm. Obviously you are jealoud of that

Well, you don't have to worry about getting stepped on, where are the busy retail stores at,??? low foot traffic, people must be at home ordering all their stuff from Amazon.!!!! love over cast days for outdoor walking, you certainly will not have to fight for a seat at a restaurant,!!!! Ho-Hum, time for a nap.
