America policies engineered our segregated homes. But the workplace? That had the chance of being a place where we interact with people of other races - and form meaningful relationships. These maps show that this hasn't exactly happened. In fact, the most personal parts of our lives is still very segregated.

Dark Horizon Literally no one cares when a group of people threaten to leave. I'm not trying to be demeaning, just honest. Large groups in the US sometimes threaten to move to Canada when a certain president is elected. What happens? 99.9% don't end up leaving, and no one would care if they did. It is like when one angry customer threatens to "never shop at this store again!" The employees don't give a damn, and neither does the company because they know it will have zero financial impact. And what would happen in our country? Outsiders will continue to want to come in, and heaps of jobs will open up for the unemployed and under-employed. Plus a few months in a foreign place you did not grow up in, on a continent that mostly ranks as 3rd world may be a bad shock for you...
Also, "Sororities and fraternaties serve as an enclave of power used to exclude and repress" EVERYONE that does not check every box of their disgusting selection qualifications. They would most likely accept a wealthy, well-connected black man or woman before they accepted a poor, unconnected, but highly educated white man or woman. I agree they should be done away with, atleast we can meet at that point, but not for the reason you stated.

Afghan /Iraq wars reunited peoples on a symbolic and political manner,so you can see more dark colored peoples in the work place : it's just political.
Nothing changed, peoples are concentrated following their geographical origin / social origin and bank account size.
You can do the same analysis with rich / poors peoples, and homosexuals peoples ,you will get the same segregation.
Also you don't see more whites going to live in other communities than before.

I would say where you live affects how much funding/resources to public schools, transportation, etc. Which you can see starkly through public schools in the cities across the country (inner cities schools normally are failing/poor, while the suburban schools thrive and have an excess of money to provide more). Because of 100 years of Segregation then moving to a system where your local community funds the quality of public services after insured mass poverty in the black community WHILE they were largely excluded from the economic boom after WWII. This ensured sub-par Public schools/services for the vast majority of blacks for generations while whites get quality services (Ex. White comfortability with police). Higher poverty rates bring higher crime rates and higher police surveillance. It’s a continuous cycle. The us has to invested into black communities the same way they did with white communities in the 50’s. If not, this problem and others of systematic racism will still exist and affect people

So 65% compared to 75% is a huge difference? People don't have that many friends overall, so 10% difference in most cases means 1-3 people. Are you really trying to say that 1-3 people is a huge difference?
I do believe that racism and segregation are real issues, but this is just ridiculous.

I don’t know why people can’t you just stay out of each other’s business. This video is like when in 4th grade the teacher sat kids thad didn’t like each other so they‘d become friends. And it didn’t work then and it won’t know. Why do white people have to have a black friend? That sounds more like a token, it’s not like a black person is weird if they don’t have a white.

  • Derek C
    Derek C 9 days ago

Did you forget the US is like 75% white so of course there is still going to be a majority of white people at companies across the country. I can tell you at least at the large company I work for, we are very diverse, I see hundreds of people every day and a very large portion of them are non white people. You also have to take in to account things like culture and upbringing. Whites and Asians usually have a lot higher standards and families that tend to stay together which can have a huge difference in how successful a person can be. Obviously that’s not all cases, I know some blacks and Hispanics at my company that are very smart and hold some really good positions that pay very well. But the point is that the statistics are what they are. There is no systematic racism anymore, there is no laws that hinder non whites from being successful, if anything it’s the opposite, where there are laws to help non whites be successful. But again it always comes back to cultural upbringing and families that tend to stick together and expectations of yourself and family. I’m sure I’ll get backlash from someone on here, so please try and take this with a grain of salt, I know this isn’t the case for everyone. There are a lot of scenarios that can prevent people from opportunities but there is no doubt in my mind that whether your white or black or anyone else, there has never been more opportunity for any individual in America then there is today.

  • I’ve fallen and can’t remember my name

To me, the icome disparity in the workplace is most telling. The university I go to is in Richmond, a highly segregated city with deep roots in white supremacy. We have a decent black student population, but the vast majority of professors are white. I'm two years in and I've never had a professor of color. Most professors of color are adjunct, and don't get the pay or the protections tenured professors do. Even more so, service workers on campus, like custodians and food attendants are almost exclusively black. It's pretty transparent, in my opinion.

Levittown PA sucks. Its full of drug addicts. The houses are small cookie cutter houses so there cheapish.. So people trying to make a buck buy these houses, then they cram 10 former drug addicts in them. So they stick 10 recovering addicts in a house and charge them $200 bucks a week for rent.. Obviously a lot of addicts end up relapsing. So where there is recovery there is a huge amount of bums and addicts from Philly. Levittown sucks!!!

"Alvin map" shows that white and black people DO work together a lot more in city centres, but when they go home they most likely live in black neighbourhoods. --> i think this is very interesting because that shows that US shows are often a little bit utopian with their fake diverse suburbias.
Most likely you will think companies are diverse because the workers you will be confronted with are more diverse the higher the job profile is though the higher the whites only rate. (same goes with female and male diversity!)

A major problem that I have run into as a university student is that none of the groups of international Asian or black or Indian/middle eastern students want to be friends with white people. They literally all only want to hang out in their cliques of friends of the same race and ethnicity, sometimes mostly from the same hometown. They seem to be very cliquey and disinclined to consider making close friends with white people. This is an issue a lot of people I know who are white and try multiple times to make friends of different races and ethnicities run into.
For example, I understand the international Asian students only feeling comfortable and at home with friends who are also Chinese and speak Chinese, but what is the point of traveling literally across the planet to go to school at this American university if you’re only going to surround yourself with the same Chinese friends from your hometown you’ve been friends with since high school? It’s like living in a bubble of China within this different place.

This blows my mind, 75% of white people only have white friends? Just so you have some context, I am a white male 38 year old US Army combat veteran. I have been married to a Latina naturalized US citizen from the Dominican Republic for 14 years. We have 1 daughter who attends public schools. The majority of my neighbors are African American in a suburb of Columbia South Carolina. My best friend is a half African American half Coasta Rican man who has been married as long with 2 children. Is my situation that rare? I thought most of America had moved past segregation and racism, am I wrong?

The numbers about people being friends with people with their own race and other races are misleading. If a certain race forms the majority then a person of any race has a greater probability of coming across a person of the race which forms the majority based on random probability, thus increasing the chances of being friends with people forming the majority. So the people with majority will mostly have friends from their own race even if there wasn't any bias. So it would be meaningless to establish a causal relationship between these numbers and the way housing or working conditions and opportunities are engineered.

I'm more surprised by the fact that the content of the video is a surprise to people and thus videos like these must be made, than by the content itself. Yes, people have personal preferences based on physical appearance and perceived familiarity, it's called in-group preference and it's cross cultural. It manifests itself in racial segregation, class segregation, other types of segregation. Deal with it. It has nothing to do with striving to respect one another or developing sovereignty.

Why is it such a big deal that whites tend to have 10% less friends who are a minority than those who are Latino/Hispanic? Also would this divide make sense from a numbers perspective. Like if there’s a lot of whites people, a far amount of Latino/Hispanics, and a smaller amount of African Americans wouldn’t it make sense for white people to have more white friends due to availability? Idk if that’s actually true in the real world or what the ratios actually are. Also, don’t people tend to hang out with those they feel the most similar/familiar with? And someone who has a different culture than urs kind be kinda scary right? I don’t believe this “segregation” is that big of a deal. It doesn’t appear there is any ill will or evil intent at play. Also did they look into the minority’s who worked at lower paying jobs and review their job qualifications? Are the job qualifications fitting the job they are currently performing? Is the pay fitting for the job? Might the amount of pay be what’s segregating people out of the work force and affecting where they live?

Truth is black neighborhoods have the highest crime rates in America

    • S H
      S H Month ago

Vast majority of most crimes are committed by a person of the same race as the victim, Bureau of Justice Statistics reports.

The Justice Department’s statistics-crunching arm just blew up a whole stack of white-supremacist myths about the nature of interracial crime and violence committed by minorities.

In a report released Thursday titled Race and Hispanic Origin of Victims and Offenders, 2012-2015, the DOJ’s Bureau of Justice Statistics found that a majority of most violent crimes are committed by people who are the same race as their victims. Indeed, the rate of white-on-white violent crime, it found, is about four times the rate of black-on-white crime.

White supremacists frequently like to manipulate crime statistics in order to claim that nonwhite minorities, particularly African-Americans, are far more crime-prone and the source of most violent crime against whites. Indeed, it is a core belief that this is the case, and many white nationalist ideologues - including politician and pundit Patrick Buchanan, Jared Taylor of American Renaissance, and the Council of Conservative Citizens - all have made considerable hay out of proffering “studies” laden with risibly bad statistics and other evidence to make their case.

The BJS study demonstrates plainly that this is simply not the case. Some 57 percent of crimes involving white victims were committed by white perpetrators, while only 15 percent were committed by blacks, and 11 percent by Hispanics. Black crime victims fell along similar racial lines, with 63 percent of the crimes committed by black perpetrators, while 11 percent were committed by whites, and 6.6 percent by Hispanics.

Overall, the BJS reported, “the percentage of intraracial [that is, same-race] victimization was higher than the percentage of interracial victimization for all types of violent crime except robbery.”

Moreover, it explained, “the rate of white-on-white violent crime (12.0 per 1,000) was about four times higher than black-on-white violent crime (3.1 per 1,000). The rate of black-on-black crime (16.5 per 1,000) was more than five times higher than white-on-black violent crime (2.8 per 1,000). The rate of Hispanic-on-Hispanic crime (8.3 per 1,000) was about double the rate of white-on-Hispanic (4.1 per 1,000) and black-on-Hispanic (4.2 per 1,000) violent crime.”

I like how just because white people don’t live in inner city low income housing like more black people, they call it segregation.

What we need to remember here is that this is less the fault of a group of people and more the fault of an ideal that is widespread. If we were to look at younger people interacting with people of color compared to older people interacting with people of color it would be very different. I have hope for this future.

This isn’t new or solely down to race. Take Glasgow in Scotland. Poor people live in the east and south and the rich stay in the west.

You completely skewered this study. “Workplace segregation has gotten worse”, no, it has gotten better. In fact according to your graph we are 25% more integrated in the workforce in 2010 than in 1980. Mind you that 2010 was 9 years ago. This is a biased study that uses facts to produce a point that is completely contradictory to those facts. How about you show the viewers the facts and let them decide what might be going on instead of telling people what to think. The current residential segregation in America is not caused by racism in the workforce. It is clearly a result of income disparity among races which is an obvious connection that you failed to draw because you failed to look at the situation objectively.

Quit blaming white people for all the problems of other races. If everyone stop making these stupid videos comparing races to one another then maybe everyone would stop looking at your race and start looking at who are are!
