Reading them was too confusing and roundabout.
I guess it was luck that I thought that the phrase *'this case in which'*, referred to numerals so I got number 26 correct.

My question is, how does these Korean tests help students in practical world? No way you speak or write English like that in real life. Looks like this test is made to eliminate students rather than selecting them. Hats off to Korean guys who toil hard to pass these. No wonder they are smart and hard working.

And I thought indian education system was the worst. I mean I passed high school with over 90% score by studying just 4-5 hrs a day on normal days and 7-8 hrs during the month of exams.

Pausing the video and doing those challenging questions myself was actually kinda fun.
If their culture didn't put so much pressure behind this and focused on just making sure they could be the best that they can be, looking for a challenge without studying themselves to death, I think they're be a lot better off.

The Korean education system is very rigorous and it trains the mind very well. Problem is, as mentioned, it can have certain setbacks as such. I have Korean friends who tell me that their curriculum is more challenging than the average international curriculum like IGCSE and the IB.

I was able to understand majority of the text because I enjoy studying literature. And while I do enjoy this style of writing and I appreciate the ability to speak and write so eloquently, people don't speak like this in everyday conversations. It makes people sound pretentious and all that froo-froo is unnecessary. These skills could be useful if you were writing something professional or perhaps a poem, but these English skills are useless for everyday use.

I've had so many suicidal thoughts because i couldn't understand too much of math and i would even cry when my math class would have a test and i was scared of being wrong and my parents not being proud of me but now probably see it a bit differently and I'm really happy about that. I really hope that people don't have suicidal thoughts about school because they have so much to live for. You will always succeed if you put your mind to it ☺

The last answer is implying in short terms that the outcome is little to no reward and the work to get the outcome just goes on forever. This is an ideal case because the time that is spent is more than the outcome. I haven’t taken anything like the SATs but as long as you leave out the details and look at it hard enough, it could be answered correctly.

I'm a PhD candidate in Korean linguistics and if I turned in writing like that to journals my papers would be refused flat out. No one publishes things that needlessly verbose since like 1960... the point of academic writing is to share new information or old information presented in a new light. If your findings are hidden under layers of overly grandois language you just come across smug and immature. The words used are technical but the writing overall is concise and structured. (Philosophy dept or the like might disagree with me, not sure about less science based disciplines, but anything experimental or practical/applied should maintain a sense of directness.)

English literature and comprehension are subjects I excel at, and always have. These paragraphs (let's be real here) were poorly written. When your flow is so hampered by excessive words that your reader struggles to comprehend the purpose, it is the fault of the AUTHOR, not the reader. Anybody who struggles through these questions shouldn't be ashamed of themselves. It's just poor writing.

English isn’t native to me but I had no problem understanding the text or giving the correct answer. I didn’t study for 13 hours a day and I outperform south koreans that easily? Baffling.
The questions themselves are also completely whack. A ’fill in the blank’ qustion with multiple choice? Come on. I thought higher of their educational system.

I got both correct, but I think it was because I was given the liberty of pausing for a few seconds and silently reading it for myself (I cant concentrate when I or others read out loud). I think it helps to break down and summarize each sentence instead of being overwhelmed by the length and unfamiliar grammar/vocab (like poetry).

The problem with the education system is that they emphasize way too much on theory versus the practical application of that knowledge in the real world aka planet earth which many educators seem to forget. Any one of those answers could be a probable answer since the person that wrote that text is "all over the place". I am 99% sure they just took pieces of text here and there glued them together to make that paragraph. The purpose of language studies is to be able to communicate read/write fluently in an other language so you can find a job that needs and makes use of that knowledge. This piece of garbage test is useless in the real world because it doesn't give a good grasp of where the student stands in terms of talking in an other language, listening, reading, writing etc.
