Even though these questions seem to be a bit easier when you sit and think about it and try to rephrase so you can understand, the Korean kids don't have that much time to answer the questions and they have to translate the questions because it's in a different language. So if you only have 1 minute to translate, read, comprehend, and answer that entire paragraph it's insanely hard. Because if you mess up translating, you mess up your comprehension, and if you mess up how you're supposed to comprehend the paragraph you will possibly get the answer wrong and I doubt they have time to go back and check their answers and be like "well I put 1 but it could be number 2".

I got both questions right, and I didn't skip. I actually thought about it and I'm so sorry that people that to go through SAT's in South Korea, have it so hard unlike the U.S. I am in Middle School and getting both most wrong questions right, is amazing. People in South Korea, I wouldn't understand how hard it is, but wrap your head around the idea and you can surely get it right.

After realising that som American and even some Korean tests have a mutiple choice, I literally have one multiple choice section on paper 3 of my economics, everything else is essays, calculations, analysing sources, responding to sources, giving solutions and applying law under exams. :(

i would honestly prefer to get these questions rather than the only way to get marks in english class: WRITE 50 THOUSAND FREAKING ESSAYS AND RESPONSES. It would be way easier. those questions were testing the student's IQ their understanding of the words which is much better than writting 50 000 essays for somebody with adhd.

I am in Canada and never had to study except for the french language through all the years at school. My province's educational system (not all provinces has the same system) is focusing on quality teaching and learning is almost easy.Korea's system on the other hand seem to be obsessed with the #1 student image (the one who study ''a bit'' too much). If i take PISA's data on those that are around 15 years old then compare my system (Quebec-Can) and Korea's, we have better results in all 3 subjects (sciences.maths and reading) and have less low performers.

I believe the stress and fatigue caused by Korean's system destroys student's health and lower their performances.
I cannot imagine how stressful these highly elusive (and time-limited) questions must be in a real exam situation.

I always wondered about the lack of correlation between the academic world and the general work force. Students being graded based on their academic performances with tests while their GPAs are effected by a teacher in an academy who is only capable in school but not so much the real world has the power to rate one's worthiness. Teachers who are not professionals in other fields but their own occupation does not accurately nor appropriately determines a student's credibility of their intelligence or suitable for a job, if applies. Most instructors who teaches resort schools is because they're incapable in the real world, so they relegate themselves to their only opportunity, supposedly to teach but not the real teachers. (This is going to trigger a lot ppl)

Why not try Korean Math SAT? Question 21 and 30 are considered to be the most difficult!! Students who wanna go into so called "good" universities should study so hard to get them right. SO TOUGH... I also wish to see other countries' atrocious university entrance tests :-) It's interesting to see how people react to these!!

I've heard "so much better off" used in real life before, but "so much THE better off"? Whoever made those questions need to learn English. Not to mention "food and meat" Those two things are not even on the same level with each other since one is the general form of the other. It's like saying "color and purple" or "fabric and nylon". Seriously, the person who made that question failed in English and in linguistic logic.
Just a somewhat comic conspirational thought, maybe the person who made the questions were a North Korean agent tasked to destroy South Korean children academic ability. LOL

i got them both right... they werent the hardest questions ive seen. it seems as if the south korean education system rewards raw intellect greater than it does with hard work. This is unlike the american education system which i hate so much. in american standardized tests, it rewards you for hard work(lots of studying) and heavily disregards natural intelligence. Yes south korea rewards hard work as well, but to simply punish those who are too lazy to study yet intelligent, is outrageous. america should adopt the south korean education system.

Literally no one speaks like this in text or word of mouth. You could probably quite literally make those statements in a few short sentences. The human brain is a highly efficient organ and will never choose this length of statement over a more simple one. Even the hardest research papers are easier to read than this.

That's actually quite similar to the IELTS reading section. I believe students in Korea would be taught about specific methods to tackle these questions, such as spotting key words/phrases, guessing the answers and things. No need to over react on this.

My thoughts: being academically challenged is great but the kids need to learn when to have fun and not be stressed out. The paragraph per question ratio is a little ridiculous especially with all those questions. The ideas expressed and the usage of the language in each paragraph are very different compared to American tests. The questions are definitely harder but not impossible to do good on, I would think the percent incorrect would be lower because the answer isn't too tricky. If this was in a foreign language for me like Spanish I would fail.
