There will never be an explanation for me to justify Casey Anthony. I can handle explanations about her partying, I don't believe she was molested or sexually assaulted by her dad, but say she was, ok. She had chance after chance to come foreward about what happened. There is no way to explain her behavior. Maybe it was an accident, that is very possible, as a parent, it is so understandable how you can do something normal, run inside to answer the phone for example while they are playing, be back in less then 30 seconds and something terrible can hwve happened. But to toss her in the woods and try and act like it didn't happen, nope.

Ugh. I kind of get the point he was trying to make that the women were being persecuted because of their actions not being stereotypically motherly, but at the same time the women who sprayed silly string on her sons graves did kill her children. I can't attest to the partying mother, but I can attest to silly string mom because the show Forensic Files did an episode on her and there was more than enough forensic evidence that pointed to her being the killer. So you what maybe you're a better person for doing a character piece and looking at who the murderers were, but I don't care if the public hates on silly string mom because she murdered her own children and I think she got what she deserved. Or maybe you thought that because they were being persecuted for being "bad moms" you thought that meant that it was just the public opinion overriding the evidence. In any case this video looks like it is defending these women, which makes me question if you are defending there actions because they are women or because you think that they were unfairly charged. All I know is that silly string mom was an awful mother because she murdered her children and she deserves the death sentence.

It's so dangerous when the media/society gets so freaked up over mothers being violent. Because if we reacted the same way when a father does a crime like this or neglects his children, domestic violence would drop dramatically, I personally think. It’s not about sexism, it’s about the fact that we all have moms. We can’t but feel that we could be next. If someone had been hiding in a mattess and then stabbed someone through it, I’m sure we would all be checking our mattresses. And the thing with Casey Anthony, if your child had been missing for a month, you don’t go partying and getting a tattoo that says free life or something. And lying to police doesn’t exactly “misunderstood feminist”

I am a woman and I don't think sexism holds a big portion in the character assassination to the prosecutors and jury merely because of the media as said in this video. The prosecutor and jury surely know what they are saying and doing based on facts and evidences. A clip was shown in this video wherein a prosecutor was explaining the possible reasons of the murder and they are clearly theorizing using psychology/logic. The point of it was these mothers killed their children. Their judgments would surely be similar, only adjusted to the situation, if these were men. I am from a family of soldiers, lawyers, and judges so I know how these people think.
However, I do agree with the media's big influence especially to the public. I know sources that twist things just to get the responses that they want. It's quite sad.

The most popular missing child case in the UK (recently at least) is probably Madeleine McCann. She'd be 15 now, so understandably her parents would still be on the look for her, especially if her body was never found, but I think most people believe her parents did it.

  • opinions in ASMR

I loved this video. I love reanalyzing cases after the sensationalism dies down. This man, btw, isn’t saying that these women aren’t guilty; he’s reevaluating the facts and the kind of influence that character assassination has on cases.
The problem with these narratives is that they often take away from the case in question, since it becomes a witch hunt vs. a full analyzation of the facts. I’m sure, for example, that Casey Anthony would be sitting in prison right now if the state didn’t go for the death penalty. They felt the need to go that far due to the sheer amount of anger the public had for her. Because of that, no jury felt comfortable indicting her without more evidence.
Also, that woman spraying silly spring on her child’s grave on his would-be birthday does *not* make her a bad mother (maybe other things, but not that specific act). People grieve in vastly different ways, and it’s not your place to judge them on their response to such a traumatic experience.

And I will just say yes they're is a bias that if you're a white mother I would even really say that if you're a mother in general, that if you party, dress a certin way, act strange that you're a "bad mom" and no that's not always true...
But they're are bad mothers out there no matter they're skin color or ethnicity, that doesn't mean they're bad because they party, or whatever; they can be bad for a lot of reasons and I think we don't always truly know people and because of that we don't truly know if mom's like Casey Anthony murdered they're child/children or not

  • Connor B.
    Connor B. 8 months ago

I think part of it is that mothers are usually seen as loving, caring nurturers that love their children unconditionally, even if this is not the case - this, combined with the idea that a mother has killed her own child, feels somewhat incomprehensible to some. also, I absolutely believe the media goes wild about it due in part to the children being white - I think that's probably a huge factor, because there aren't many children of colour mentioned on the news in stories like these. this is coming from a white person as well.

Im not sure if my comment will reach many people but
There was someone down in the comments below who said something along the lines of " They always have to bring up race or why do they have to bring up race", the comment disappeared but I would still like to answer for anyone willing to read.
Well its America, race is always an issue or variable in almost every situation. Its like...intersectionality, social categorizations that often overlap. Multiple identities intersect in order to create the whole. These identities include gender, race , social class, sex, religion etc. You would bring up race the same way you would bring up gender, correct? If she happened to be male, and in a higher social class this video would be a whole different video on an entirely different topic. There is no single identity that is treated exactly the same as another, even though that may be ideal. Through some people's eyes race may not seem relevant, just like the color of her hair, the way she dresses, the way she talks, where she lives, her religion, etc but it very much is.

You had a great argument until you mentioned race. It’s not just about white girls - that’s a narrative you’re pushing. It’s a child, a well known child for JonBenèt, if someone murdered Will Smith’s Daughter that’d be just as publicized.
On top of that it’s an unfortunate fact that kids go missing all the time - I myself was kidnapped when I was 13. It was a horrible experience that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy and the trauma didn’t leave me even to this day I still have to face repercussions for what happened. But I can tell you one thing - I didn’t get on the news because my skin was light (I’m not even white I’m Mexican Armenian but I’m always confused for being white because of how light my skin is - funny how that works 🤔) I didn’t get on the news at all. Heck the police thought I was lying until they connected it to a sting of other attempted kidnappings in the area - I was just lucky enough to escape. My white skin gave me no benefits when I was being kidnapped - so don’t make it seem like America only cares about our skin tone - maybe 50 years ago but these days not so much. We rally behind kids. More often than not I see little black kids on the Amber alerts because there are more black kids in the area. It’s a terribly sad fact but non the less our news doesn’t ban a child from being seen for their skin tone. So please don’t spread unnecessary hate, things like this cause tension between people where none had to exist.
