The 1964 Philadelphia Phillies should be on this list. In the 1964 National League pennant race, the Phillies led St. Louis by 6.5 games with only twelves games left to play; however, Philadelphia had a major collapse during the rest of that season while St. Louis surged and won the pennant by one game over the Phillies. To make matters worse, the red-hot Cardinals defeated the Yankees in the 1964 World Series.

How did you not include the Buffalo Bills chokejob with after finally getting the lead the choke because the Titans used a irrefutable lateral the music city miracle to score the winning touchdown.
That was in the 1999 Wild Card game which was obvious Karma since the Bills soul crushed the Oilers in a Wild Card game with the largest comeback in NFL history of the amount of points deficit.

  • SRSobotka

Surprised they didn't include the 2003-04 season game of the Tampa Bay Bucs vs. the Indianapolis Colts on MNF; Bucs were leading 35 to 14, with 3:42 in regulation, and Peyton Manning brought the Colts back 21 points in that time to beat the (then) Defending Super Bowl Champs 38 to 35.

  • Kc Matheny

I enjoy lists such as this - but only when they are thoroughly researched & evaluated. Sometimes it seems clear that lists have been thrown together, ignoring the many thousands of sporting events that happened before those compling the lists were born. We also go to much by how much collapses have been repeated instead of ignored.
For example, my Angels were up 3 games to 1 in '86 against the Red Sox & within a strike of going to their first World Series. Then it all came apart.
Because the Buckner error in the World Series that followed has been repeated far too many times over the years, the Angels series has been forgotten. The Angels collapsed was a much greater failure.
Phillies in the early 60's, the Jets losing their last 6 games, the Sonics were up by almost 30 points in a playoff game against the Lakers & lost, so many more...
    I left this video early.

    • Bill Marvel
      Bill Marvel 16 days ago

@David lafleche wasn't born until 66 and for only the 3rd time in like a 80 year history is highly unusual to me, and 76ers crash to the Celtics in the early 80's when they were up 3 games to 1 and lost the series was bad enough to swallow especially when the 76ers blew them out 120-80 in game 1 but redeem themselves couple of years later, still waiting though for another, just poor management decisions ever since, maybe next year???

All this and not a peep about Shooter McGavin?
As a Buffalo Bills fan, losing four straight Super Bowls then eventually setting a NFL record for years not making the playoffs is a different stomach turner.
That game against Houston we listened to on the radio, as the game was not a sellout if I remember right. It was so disturbing we turned the radio off. At the start of the second half we turned the radio on to see how bad we were going to get blown out, but that turned out to be a major shocker.

Yes, we lost in the first round, after a HELL of a regular season performance. Just because we didn't get the Cup, doesn't mean the team isn't worthy of support in their other efforts. We'll get back to the Playoffs again, but we need to put the loss behind us and focus on supporting the team. That's all that matters.

Let's say that the ending wasn't that dramatic and fucky and he ended up second. Well, he was considered 80th best golfer in the world at his best, it would have been "and a surprisingly good performance from Van de Velte!"
By comparison the 80th best player in the NHL might be Ryan Dzingel. If he does a hat trick in the Stanley Cup before doing many bad plays, well the average sais he overplayed. The 80th best racing driver might be in gte or something.

UNI ‘s choke against Texas A&M in the 2016 NCAA Tournament must be the biggest blown lead per time (20+ seconds) in a basketball game as the 11-seed led the 3-seed by 12 points with only 34 seconds remaining in their second-round game. A win would have advanced the Panthers to the Sweet 16 for the second time in the school’s history.
Instead, they went minus 0.35 pts/sec in those final 34, turning the ball over 4 times and allowing 14 Aggie points in just 32 seconds (0.44 pts/sec). This resulted in an OT victory for the Aggies and what I consider to be the biggest (single-game) choke in basketball history. The Panthers have not returned to the dance since.
Can anyone think of a worse one?

Boston Bruins could have had another one on this list after they blew a 3 games to 0 series lead and a 3-0 score in game 7 to Philadelphia in 2010. It was only the 3rd or 4th time in NHL history that had been done certainly makes it note worthy.
