This was a very helpful video and what made me decide to buy this one. Very solid board, though Gigabyte BIOS is qwarky. Took me less than 2 hours to brick the main BIOS, but recovery of it was super easy, thanks to the dual bios switch. Other than that, the RGB implementation does not play well with Corsair's iCue software, so Vengeance RGB Pro RAM does not like it on BIOS Rev 1.5 (I think, not looking at it) but, the newest BIOS fixes these issues, sorta.

I bought this motherboard.... With an R5 2600... Kinda regret it after watching the efficiency on the VRM.
I mainly bought it because I am getting a r7 3000 series (mainly R7 3700) but I need a pc now, my FX-8350 got destroyed (nephew + water spilled into the cosmos 2 case frying the inside). has been over 5 months ago and my tablet pc isn't cutting it any more.
Hopefully when the 3000 series come up, I'll definately make sure to utilize it to it full potential.

I'm running this motherboard with a 2700X & H100i Pro AIO cooler with Gigabyte's 3200 RAM kit. Bios settings: EZ Overclock Tuner OFF. AMD Cool & Quiet OFF. Memory XMP ON set to 3200 (or ramp up to your RAM speed with voltage on Auto still unless voltage is wrong for your RAM kit), cpu XFR set on Turbo with voltage on Auto. Windows 10 Power & Performance settings on High so no sleep enabled for the SSD's or monitor. With these settings I get cpu speeds up to 4.37GHz and normals around 4.0-4.1 and my temps are always nice and low 62-67C while 4K gaming or running heavy scripts for modding Skyrim SE & Fallout 4.

Gigabyte says it is compatible with Raven Ridge but list of supported CPUs have only Athlon 200GE apu and there is no HDMI or DP and USB-C is not compatible with display output apparently. Is there any way I could get it to work with a 2400G only to try a score on 3DMark Firestrike? Some sort of hdmi video pcie adaptor? or using it to run a monitor connected to a dedicated card and have the dedicated card idle? Or is my only option to get a different mobo just for the 2400G?

My personal experience with this board: half-broken NIC (can’t enable offload options at all), CSM set to Disabled soft bricks the board, and the BIOS is downright barren (can’t even enable/disable individual storage drives). Nice design overall, but bad QA and terrible BIOS.
P.S.: I would also like to warn people that this model still comes with 128mb BIOS chips whereas other OEMs have already moved on to 256mb chips for their X470 boards. Read this article to know why such limitation can be a big showstopper: www.anandtech.com/show/12971/amd-bios-limitations-bristol-ridge-dropped-from-certain-motherboards

How do you explain this. Could be off topic but I have an Ultra gaming version x470. Which I think it has a bios problem too because of the dual sht. When powered on the pc. The debug led stays on cpu for about a second then shift to dram led then after like maybe 0.5sec it goes back to cpu debug led in a loop. However when forcing backup bios (power + reset in 10sec) it works. Was it supposed to update the corrupted bios and make it work? Although right now they are both dead I think. Which is doing the same thing I mentioned on the debug led :/ Do you know how to sort this problem?

Can somebody who has this motherboard test if it's possible to run this motherboard (even on say a stock 2700, which has a pretty low TDP) without plugging in the additional 4-pin 12v mobo power? Like, you know, just the 8-pin and 24-pin of course. I read the manual but found nothing about it. I've seen some motherboards on the high end that has an 8-pin header but can operate with only a 4-pin connected. I'm planning on buying this motherboard in the future but I'd like to keep using my 600W 80+ gold PSU at least until I get a new one with the appropriate power plugs. The one step down version of this, the Gaming 5, only has an 8-pin 12v header by the way. If it isn't possible then I might have to settle for the Gaming 5, unless better motherboards become available in my area when upgrade time comes.

I'm looking for a X470 board which is really power efficient for idle and undervolting for a 2700x and will last about 8-10 years. Is this a good choice? I had tons of issues between 2002-2004 with Gigabyte boards and never bought them anymore, because they had just BAD caps which would just blow up after 2-3 years and so I went for Asrock and they were better in ANY region than the Gigabyte, bios, support. I would buy a Asrock again but I read the VRMs get really hot on the X470 boards.

  • Mattias Larsson
Mattias Larsson 8 месяцев назад +1

Buildzoid was unsure of the hour rating of the caps, I think that they are the same caps that are used on the X399 Designare and Aorus boards, and the same caps that Gigabyte advertise on; www.gigabyte.com/us/mb/100-ud/Durable-Safe - Long Lifespan Durable Black™ Solid Caps. If that is the case, the caps are rated for 10 000 hours.
If we compare the features of both boards, you have to scroll down on each page, there is a picture with blue markers / pointers where the caps are pointed to; X399 www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X399-DESIGNARE-EX-rev-10#kf and X470 www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/X470-AORUS-GAMING-7-WIFI-rev-10#kf - Both mention Durable Black Solid Caps.
Finally, they look the same too, imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/8/6/8605_21_gigabyte-x470-aorus-gaming-7-wifi-motherboard-review_full.jpg
    imagescdn.tweaktown.com/content/8/3/8385_19_gigabyte-x399-designare-ex-motherboard-review_full.jpg

@Buildzoid comparing your analysis if the Gigabyte X370 K7 and X470 K7, why would Gigabyte increase from 6 to 10 VCore and decrease from 4 to 2 SOC on the VRM?

  • Tcll5850
    Tcll5850 9 месяцев назад

it's better to have the VRM and not need it than need it and not have it
if you can only afford a 4-core and plan to upgrade to an 8-core, you have the head-room to do so.
but that's just me, I like having components that I don't need because *I may likely use them later*
this is why I want 7 PCIe x16 (x16-wired) slots instead of BS like onboard M.2 when I can get NVME or SATA through PCIe
(not to say onboard isn't good, as it means you can use another PCIe slot for something else)

strong vrm too, but why does it only have a wifi option? i don't wanna pay for poisoness wifi, which i will just plug out and never use.
also it's missing a ps/2 port, which is still important for keyboard enthusiasts for n-key rollover on boards etc.. but they decided to put an aorus logo on the io cover instead or sth? :/

Hey BZ or anyone else who may know, I am considering an APU build- so are there any motherboards that have more than 2 phases for the SOC/IGPU? Considering my calculated CPU and IGPU power draws, 2 phases seem iffy when power draw is similar between the 2, and even likely skewed toward IPGU when overclocking.

@gamersnexus Why haven't we seen extreme overclocking in atmosphere replaced containers, Like a straight up pure nitrogen atmosphere with one way valves to release excess pressure and in which the hot nitrogen atmosphere is replaced with the cooler0 boil off from the nitrogen pot.

Let's hope that Gigabyte have fixed the issue with GTX 10 series cards not booting in Ryzen systems with CSM disabled on some boards (and with some BIOS versions, with HPET and CSM disabled). Just can't trust Gigabyte after their shitty BIOS revisions.
