You might not know but russian surnames has some references. In fact russian "zver" is english "beast" plus typical russian ending "ev" and the same story with "medved" which translates like "bear" or "honey eater".
So there are 2 animals at the court.

Medvedev has the mentality of Nadal but carries himself/plays like Djokovic. I am going to predict he'll win half the slams in 2020.

Really first noticed him when he threw the kitchen sink at Djokovic in AO 2019. This guy is special, covers the whole court, can produce winners consistently while committing few UE and has a good serve percentage.

"Russian machine working with ruthless efficiency" . You dehumanize Russians even in tennis?
Dear commentator, would you say the same if Zverev won: "German machine working with ruthless efficiency"...
    I don't think so.

Medvedev is really putting everyone else outside the top 3 to shame. While everyone else is losing to the likes of Fabbiano at the slams, Medvedev is winning everything he plays. He reminds me of the most lethal combination of Kafelnikov and Davydenko. I do have to say though that his forehand motion seems a bit strange to me. It's like he's only doing half of a swing and I don't think it gives him the full power that he could unleash.

I love the fact that he doesn't celebrate after a big win. Shows that he's serious and doesn't let emotions overcrowd his skill and focus on the court. I love that about him. He just comes out here to play the best he can, keep to himself, and win. Great attitude.

Medvedev is in the best conditions, conditions that young tennis players like him are inheriting, the great legacy of their teachers are now overcoming them. and there are more young tennis players than having excellent arguments, boys and girls who make merits to enter the academy are doing it, I think that medicine for a comment by Jhon McKenroe said that sometimes there are tennis players who do everything possible to make tennis boring ... well these are not the future but the present that we were all waiting for
The group that is in my network of tennis players and practically very lethal for the experience that seems to be threatened every tournament.

Medvedev will be number 1 before too long. Maybe even next year. He has that smoothness and easy game most number 1s have. And it looks like he also has the consistency. Also, his game style is very simple and efficient. Great serve with no frill service motion. No bouncing balls 20 times. No pickass rituals And no celebration even after winning the tournament. That's a nice change from all the vamos, fist pump , facial contortion, etc...

  • MrPernell27
    MrPernell27 29 days ago

He’s not intimidated by the big 3. He clearly feels like he belongs at the top of the game. Major #1 in 2020! Especially if he develops a bigger serve.

Well.. The first time ever someone is consistently tactically beating top ten players with ease only seen before when djokovic broke into the scenes 10 yrs ago.
In other words... A serious contender to be at par with 3 giants of tennis. Currently the best among upcoming players in terms of mental strength, a close second is Thiem.
A lesson for tsitsipas.... How to chanalize extraordinary talent with mental strength and also to keep his focus and humbleness intact!

  • Ngo Duy
    Ngo Duy 29 days ago

This man's game is so consistent and clean. Over the course of this year, his forehand has been improved significantly and no longer is the weak shot in his arsenal. Medvedev gives the same vile as the peak Djokovic: Flawless aka Unbeatable. He still needs to improve a little bit in his volleys and approach shots. During these recent two weeks, I saw he lost some points at the net when he was at the advantage due to some weak volleys. Well, Nole is not very good volley but still is no. 1 though.

Players starting to fear him - NextGEN players to say the least! Tsitsipas 2 UFEs at 6-6 [5-5] in SF and now Zverev 2 DFs at 4-5 30-30 in F.
There's no reasoning why Tsitsipas should drop his level suddenly in SF, it just wasn't on the cards going by how well he had been playing through that 1st set and he blinked!
