It's a darned shame that in the so-called "richest country in the world" that children any where have to pay for school lunch while in "lesser" countries such as Germany, France, etc... no child has to suffer this belittlement because their lunch is free as is health care. This is despicable.

It was a heavy-handed and an inappropriate way to seek compliance from parents! You are also wrong that it was a few parents that were upset by your letter! In fact it outrageous to everyone that heard about it. Mr. Mazur and his collaborators skill sets would be better served with a parole board than a school board! You obviously do not have a good parent and school relationship. It is also obviously that even as your tactics gained national attention and you saw no one agreed you still wanted it your way. You are inflexible and you should resign. Thankfully, there are people like Todd Carmichael who saw the harm your inexcusable threat to the parents created and wanted to help!

I entered elementary school in Louisiana in 1955. I had a 25 cent a week allowance which I used 10 cents for some school supplies and a movie 15 cents on Saturday sometimes. My parents paid for my school lunch. I remember bringing the money to give to the teacher each Monday morning for that week. I think you had to pay in advance. My parents weren't rich. We really didn't have much. My dad made $40 a week as a laborer, my mom had some part-time work as a seamstress I recall,, but we never got free meals from the school ever and we paid our bills on time. Unless these parents are destitute, I believe they should pay for their kids lunches or have them brown bag their lunch. Children learn to be responsible by observing their parents being responsible.

I have been there i understand but obviously you have not ....Maybe your feelings was hurt and this is a tantrum.

An example of what is so wrong with so many attorneys involved in advising our public institutions. Don't separate kids from illegal aliens using them just in case they get caught crossing the boarder but do separate U.S. Citizen Parents from children for not paying a 72.25 bill. This has got to stop. This is government out of control. Fire all those involved in authorizing that reprehensible letter TODAY.

  • Quentin Castellanos

attorney Charles Cossna needs to be removed. " I wouldn't say it's threatening.." "Hopefully it gets their attention.." "...some parent crying foul over he or she doesn't wanna pay a debt. A debt, attributable to feeding their kid. How shameful." this lawyer claiming that removing children from parents as a legal option available to the school as recourse for non payment is reprehensible and deserves immediate disciplinary measures. THIS MUST NOT STAND. Fire all those involved in authorizing this letter TODAY!

People are treated with disrespect by a school threatening to take a child away is not their right by solely the reason of not having any money. These schools or districts are acting as if they have authority that they do not. They are ONLY for providing education and do not have any right to destroy any family or child's birth environment. They do not have this right whatsoever especially if it's ONLY in reguards to money or lack of money. There are MANY THINGS schools can do to deal with this issue. Once again, I say this with all reasoning, that Schools and School districts have gone beyond their rights and this is a form of abuse on their behalf and a complete embarrassment to what an education organization or EDUCATION professionals should behave. It is very shameful thing of them, not the parents.
-Money is not the issue. Human or Biology gave us the ability to bare children and no one has the right to take any persons child. Not in Africa, not in the Amazons nor in America!!!
AND food comes from the wild. It should not cost any money. Tell people to stop making wild food cost money at all!!!
How much food is thrown out every day in food stores????!

      what would YOU choose.

The parents need to sue and charge these schools with terrorism and premeditated kidnapping, these schools are responsible to feed these kids not the parents, the state mandates these kids have to go to schools the children are in their care so charge these schools with child endangerment, neglect, and charge these school officials with extortion and grand larceny for all the taxpayer dollars they steal and waste.

  • bearasscreekfarms sameasabove

Isn't the GOVERNMENT responsible for feeding citizens who are mandated to be present? For instance they are required to feed people they send to PRISON. Why is there a cost attributed to feeding schoolchildren. Some schools even prohibit bringing lunch from HOME. Are THOSE kids required to pay, as well?

    • Tessie
      Tessie 2 months ago

bearasscreekfarms sameasabove No one is mandated to attend a public school. The same lazy parents who will not educate their child are not feeding their child. Children should be allowed to bring food from home.

And this is what happens when you rely on government to do ANYTHING for you.
Government will always try to use force against the people but if the people want to use force against government they are deemed terrorists.
Government IS the terrorist group, not the people.
Government loves the kids so much its willing to destroy their family and put them in foster homes.
    Let that sink in.

I don’t like the thought of removing kids due to neglect but thats what it is.The parents have been asked over and over to pay for their child’s food but they will not.Something has to be done and honestly it IS neglect.

    • ballnutz

I dont have that problem. I just dont think its right to take someones child from them when both parents work so they cant homeschool and can barely pay the bills so they decide to let the school wait. Not everyone is as set as you.
