only Smithereens (my fav) and Ashley Too were alright imo. Striking Vipers only had aspects of what Black Mirror episodes are meant to portray, it was pretty shite

In the episode Rachel Jack and Ashley too Ashley O sings 2 different rewriten songs by Nine Inch Nails. Head like a hole was on a roll and the unnamed song she started to sing and that her aunt pulled from her head is Everything right where it belongs. and as the credits come up she sings the original head like a hole

I'm just sitting here, enjoying my black mirror while so much hate spews on season 5. "WHERES THE DARK GRITTINESS, WHERES THE DEPRESSION, WHERES THE IMPENDING SENSE OF DESPAIR!?" Like wtf? Don't you have enough of that in the real world? Holy fuck, take a chill pill and enjoy a "happy resolution" in the series. It's not like there are no moral dilemmas or an absence of real societal issues. All these "fans" can fuck off.

Season 5 was such a drag except for Smithereens which was surprisingly moving but not really what we have come to expect. The other episodes were brutal. The vipers one I couldn’t even finish and the Ashley O one had too many of those scenes that were hard to watch meaning I felt extremely uncomfortable even by Black Mirror standards. Too many moments where I couldn’t tell if it was bad acting or written that way. I also thought some of the scenarios and parts of the story were too far fetched when it didn’t need to be. I mean that ending was borderline retarded. Maybe it was on purpose. Made for a shitty conclusion to the season.

Is it just me or are the actors playing some kind of the role they had before in other series... like Ashley o is playing her role as Hannah Montana or yorkie in san junipero played video games as in "halt and catch the fire" where she is creating and coding video games... Kenny in shut up and dance played his role in "the end of the fucking world"

    I love black mirror
I only discovered it last week and I watched every episode in 2 days and I work full time
To be fair they’re not long seasons but still.
Favourite episode either black museum or arkangle . Entire history of you and white Christmas is good too

It seems that in Season 5, Black Mirror lost the most important technology - the balls.
No longer did I feel challenged by the messages voiced in the episodes. In every episode I waited for the _actual_ twist... The twist, that throws me out of balance upon realizing I was lead to the wrong direction the whole episode. Alas, it never came. No interesting exploration of the potentialities of technology. No dystopian overtones, that make you more anxious than Truman Show.
Striking Vipers: A lame attempt to please the more left-oriented audience. The big questions the scenario rises were not explored in the necessary depth, that the shows own standard requires. They were just having fun and in the end made a clear statement, that infidelity can be a good thing, and gender might be only a social construct - which it isn't, by the way. In the end, there was no real conclusion and no real payoff. Just two dudes having sex in a virtual reality fighting game... Which itself is a stupid scenario. If the creators of such game were to program such possibility, it would no longer even be a fighting game and the culture around it would change immediately. The politics in this episode are clear and are not really challenged by the story itself. There's nothing wrong liking a little penis every now and then either... It doesn't make you gay. Somehow.
Smithereens: A lame attempt to convey a normal everyday message through a melodramatic hostage situation. The message of "don't look at your phone while driving" is common sense and we are asked to sympathize with a idiot who doesn't possess it. The scenario is very understandable: you mess up badly, but in your anger place the blame on something external, because the quilt and pain is too huge to accept. However, because it so understandable, it's also very common and thus too normal to be a Black Mirror story. The ending was very hollow as well. The man dies. Is this because he deserved it for his idiocy? He would've deserved to live with his quilt, regret and the fact, that his little phone call didn't give him any true catharsis. Because in the end, he is an idiot and his idiocy cost him his love and no one can yell at a phone loud enough to bring back the dead. How is, then, the woman pressing the button on the computer connected to the sniper shot? Nobody knows... They probably thought it looked cool. The message was bland and no real twist happened. This episode felt a tad patronizing.
Rachel, Jack and Ashley too: Miley Cyrus being a pop puppet is very accurate. Her artistry in song-writing is not. The logic is so horrible in this one. The character development of Rachel is disrupted and completely left unresolved. How does the protagonist grow as a person from the experience? The episode had too much comedy in it to be taken seriously as a Black Mirror episode. The Nine Inch Nails adaptations were kinda weird. The message was perfect for some teen movie: follow your heart and do what you wanna do, instead of doing what others want you to do. Puh-lease, Black Mirror, you are better than this.
My favorite episode? Striking Vipers, because I liked the milieu of the game. Otherwise, all of them sucked.

I actually think it might be because The Thick of It is British and seems up Brooker's alley and he won best comedy personality alongside Peter Capaldi: "there was a double win too for Armando Iannucci’s scathing political satire The Thick of It, which saw Peter Capaldi named Best TV Comedy Actor for his performance as ascerbic spin doctor Malcolm Tucker"

Striking vipers was a typical black mirror episode which I liked, good twist at the end.
Smithereens was a bit boring and dragged out but I see what they were trying to get at.
Ashley Too was interesting and almost like watching a film but the ending ruined it, just corny.

One Easter egg that I think was missed was in striking vipers, when Anthony Mackies character goes to log on to the new game for the first time, the notification icon has an ouroboros in it, this could be a reference to altered carbon as Anthony Mackie is reprising the role of takeshi kovac. The ouroboros is a symbol heavily used in altered carbon

Easter eggs like “Skillaine St” and other examples of putting names from previous characters in titles to fill word spaces is kind of irritating. It comes across as lazy to be honest. I don’t know why people eat that up. The world building is interesting- seeing where things line up on the timeline, dialogue parallels, etc, but they actually seem to have some purpose

This show is starting to have continuity errors. If the news is reporting the architect committing multiple murders meaning these events are happening at the same time as the Ashley O episode, and there's an ad for the memory device from the first episode in the Ashley O episode....then the device used on the architect wouldn't be a working prototype, they should already have that technology upgraded...my only explanation is that they're on different planets, as previously hinted in the Prime Minister Pig episode.
