They didn't go into enough detail about how he was able to recite those big numbers if his parents didn't teach him them...very suspicious.
How would you go about learning how to pronounce big numbers if they aren't mentioned near you often when you are 2!? Did he just constantly watch math programs on tv or something?

Why is everyone here nagging about how Asians advance quicker intellectually than foreigners? Please reterm 'Asian' as this refers to people in 48 countries. Here in my country, the Philippines, few have crossed the elementary academic threshold and most of who do drop out... Just recommending that people should stop judging other races that either escalate in holistic intellect or flounder at it (or are mediocre) as culture is what often dictates what a people how likely to act.

IQ is just a number, it doesn't describe really how smart a person is. Yes, this kid is smart, but his school is stupid if they depended on IQ level to place students in the gifted and talented program.

    • wordart

Well iq is so far the most reliable method found to diagnose gifted people. When someone is gifted, an iq over 130 is a symptom.

I could read at 2, knew all the planets in the solar system, and memorized the entire script of The Wizard of Oz all before I started kindergarten, which I started a year early. Was in the gifted & talented program all throughout school and usually had the highest grade in the class. I even started teaching myself Japanese at 8. And then around 12/13 I feel like I hit a plateau and now i'm a junior in college and I'd say I place about average in comparison to others here. So either I was never much of a genius at all, or the education system failed to foster an environment in which I could grow. And I feel like that's similar to what happens with a lot of the "gifted" or "genius" children out there.

To be honest, all they really talked about was math. I mean being really good at math doesn't make you a genius. They should see if he was good at other subjects. And I feel like they are just bragging, I'm not jealous because I have my own talents and creativity (Well this kid probably does too) but he is just get publicity, or like extra attention :P also stuff like this probably makes other people feel bad about themself

I mean honestly, I hate these parents forcing their smart children to give up a social life for research. Let them grow up naturally

    • wordart
      wordart 17 дней назад

What is really a natural social life? Is it getting bullied by peers because "no one ever cares about what you're telling" because your interests are so different from theirs? Is it being told being harassed is your fault because you are too different and don't make enough efforts to adapt even though you're already destroying yourself with the effort and cutting your personality in two halves? This is sad but it is often what happened to gifted kids who "socialize naturally".

I really admired the way his parents dealling with his gifted. They made a right choice letting him to be at his grade level. Because I always read or met with the parents that having this gifted child, they being too obsessed demanding for their gifted child getting all the oppurtunity they could without thinking how it ruined & spoiled the gifted child of their own childhood moments. And most of them end up with nothing they achieve at the of their own life. Infact some of them end up with drugs & prostitution.

How obscure! This is quite pathetic. First of all, the math that he is doing isn't even hard. NBC is just idolizing him so much! In all honesty, he isn't even that smart! Look, if he was a "genius" then he would have had at least some knowledge of calculus. All we see him doing is long division and multiplication. Plus, saying a number when your young doesn't make you smart. Glorify somebody else, like Tanishq Abraham (I know he's 15 but still he is much smarter than the rest of them).

IQ can fluctuate drastically in one's early years. Don't believe me? Look it up.
Of course, this doesn't mean individuals are capable of reaching say, Einstein's level from ground zero.
