He needs to be in the grade level and challenge more so so he can put his education and life opportunities in higher education.

Many kids out there are crazy smart. Has anyone ever tried to put a few of them together in the same room and ask them to solve a problem together? How would the go to Mars? Could they figure out a way to talk to dolphins? Kids don't let politics and vanity get in their way of doing things. I think that it would be cool to see a study like this.

All this is very good. A child with a bright intellect. Gods of natures gift. But the sad thing about this is a child with such potential has to go through the same industrialized schooling system which doesnt do anything but generate another cog in the wheel of industrial machine. Pretty soon the child will identify with profit and loss and nationality and things like those and this will in turn turn his intellect in a direction world does not need. It might not happen that way, but everything so far in his life is imoressing on him towards that path. There has been a lot of child prodigies, but because of this pathetic system, once they turn adults they turn into just another brick in the wall, thanks to the educational and rigid society we live in. I am saddened by this story like that of many other child prodigies.

If he's a "math genius" and thinks an IQ of 148 is just "in" the top 2%, he is not a math genius. 130 is the top 2% and on a bell curve that is a LOT of difference. Cute that his parents called on NBC he could start a 2% or higher ego club.

Psychologists usually consider anyone over 125 IQ a genius. Most people also don't know their IQ; this kid isn't even that advanced, he is 1 in 50. Odds are he wouldn't even be the smartest kid his age at his school. How he got a national story about him is beyond me.

  • Ron Williams
    Ron Williams 29 дней назад

Top 2% is not 'genius'. One of every 25 people you walk past in the street is, on average, at that level or higher (by definition, if you live in a country in which the population mean IQ is 100). Smart, yes, genius, no. Genius, if the word has any meaning at all any more, refers to someone who has abilities, inexplicable to normal people. These mathematical tricks are not inexplicable, and neither is the ability to do them.
They've set this kid up for disappointment later on when he meets really, really smart people. I should know: former Mensa member, IQ 140ish (1%), but there are a large number of people whose dust I eat intellectually. You can be fooled early on by the 'big fish in a small pond' scenario, as well.

    • David Johnson
      David Johnson 24 дня назад

Ron Williams he is definitely a genius by most standards. Psychologists usually say 125 and I think Mensa is 135. You're right though that he is nothing special, I'm 148 and my school had 4 kids over 150. I have no idea how he gets a national story about him. Let's see him get over a 99% average in high school then I'll be impressed.
