As usual, Musk´s people are superficial with their data. Solar roofs have known issues: East-West roofs, shadowing by trees and neighbouring houses, overheating on hot sunny days, dirt crusts after two years latest. None of these issues get adressed, but ppl are entitled to play and pay for being a test-bunny for eco-idiology. Hey, I really like solar power and Tesla cars, but stuff needs to make sense and issues need to be pointed out.

Musk is the man. Solar is the way to go. I have panels on my roof and have not paid a hydro bill for seven years. 2 more years and its turly free power. I have saved my hydro bill payments and have 14 k saved so far. The panels cost 10K. Solar rocks

I'm so excited about the prospect of solar roof tiles! I have a home in Tennessee with a facade that faces fully south, and a very steep pitched roof. Nothing would kill it's curb appeal and resale value faster than having traditional solar panels covering it. I'll be keeping an eye out to see if our local solar roof installation companies have adopted this technology. All your videos are fantastic. Please keep up the great work 👍🏽

Sounds good about price but we all know the Government will make its money one way or the other. If cars all go to battery they will find a way to tax it to make up for the loss of money from fuel. Same with the house. If u aren't using electricity or gas, they will find another way to tax it.

Looking at the big picture, living in big suburban houses like these - ones that have rooves is the problem. If you live such a house you are fucking over the environment with your massive energy needs. Move to a city and live in an apartment building - far better for the environment. Buy a 5 bedroom apartment if you want to feel rich.

Great video! (As always) A couple of remarks this time though:

    1) not "each and every tile" is a solar panel. They alternate between real and fake ones to keep the cost down

    2) it is not only that these roofs are cheaper than normal roofs when factoring in energy savings, they are cheaper than normal roofs, period! With the exception of flat asphalt roofs, but you can't see these from the streets so Elon advices to still use regular solar panels anyway in this case.

lets say in 20 to 30 years there are at least 4 generations of tesla powerwalls that are genuinely advanced in design, capacity and lode functionality or user intuitive. Smart marketing would see a buyback/replacement discount scheme to purchasers of early generation 1 tech to sure up future sales and generate early capital for R&D and future production set up. Being an Aussie aswell it astounds me that we still use fossil fuels to generate most of our power requirements. DC to AC inversion tech is totally sound and functional now. Solar, hydro and wind keep improving with momentum in smart innovation. The only weak link still is storage. Battery technology still has away to go. I can't help but feel wet cell is still a better option for large capacity in non freezing parts of the globe. The surface area used by cement in most homes/apartments could be structual batteries with longevity applications by being serviceable for maintaining electrolyte cathodes and anodes. Basically top up your battery by hosing of your driveway and every 10yrs or so the serviceman comes and swaps out the plates.

    Food 4 thought :

Losing your home (house rather) equity to a company, or the state - is that what they call "energy independence"? What do you expect from them, when the sec refuses to prosecute a ceo who would take a billion dollars of company funds to hire one Howard Stern, and then say to shareholders, sorry kids, but if we only had two hundred million dollars to keep from going bankrupt, what will we do? .. And so, ceo karmazin sold about half the company (sirius xm) to liberty media to raise the necessary funds to remain a going concern... when government promotes fraud, thievery, or looks the other way, refusing to hear, you know tyranny is coming.
Liberty media - they used to issue "tracking
stock". If you bought all the issued tracking
stock, you would not own the company - that
paper was void with respect to conferring
ownership rights - and nobody at the sec, or
other levels of the us government protested.
The biggest threat to freedom is us politicians - the majority of whom seem to be guilty of treason. And so they move the earthlings closer
to global tyranny and the reign of antichrist.
All these church places where ZIANism (eugenics) is promoted, is run by them, the synagogue of satan.

Losing your house? Ppa agreement, is that what they call rental agreements now? $TSLA $Scty The trouble with Tesla-Solarcity is that THEY tell U how much electricity U is using, remotely, and so charge. Wakeup Nigga! ...

In Canada, they are called SMARTREADERS - the hydroelectric company decides how much electricity you used, how much you will pay - remotely. No longer do they send a guy to your house to read the monitor located on the side of your house which is difficult to tamper with. They decide, and not an independent observer - the monitor which neither the company or you control. .... Think of how McDonald's operates, or newspaper stands operate - handing out burgers and information, anonymously, thus preventing somebody from getting preferential treatment because of the colour of their skin, gender, or religion, et cetra. .... But sodomites, they desire a political economy where everybody knows each other - ftrom feudal "go to confession" days to "modern psychiatry" they seek to know other males. Sodomites, eugenicists, and satanists are one and the same - for their philosophies support each other. There is not much difference between nazis and communists, for both are about control over other persons' bodies, especially the males. The culture of sodom was not about same gender consensual relationships (although that was no doubt part of it) but nonconsensual invasion of privacy (desiring to know another, and acting upon that desire) : It was a culture that promoted sexual assault, especially upon males by other males.

What we're seeing is a reversion of the industrial revolution.

The industrial revolution brought a lot of people together, so it made sense to create a power plant, a sewage treatment plant, water pumping station, etc... massive things that handled public needs in-bulk.

What we're seeing now is a push for people to have the choice to be responsible for that themselves... with their own power generation, sewage treatment, etc at their own home, business, etc.

This has happened for a few reasons

    1) cost has come down enough for more folks to experiment with it

    2) telecommuting has allowed more higher-paid knowledge workers to move out into rural areas away from the city since they don't have to commute.. and since they have more money, they can afford to experiment with self-sufficiency (when you end up with a large, high-end clientele, it usually makes it easier for ideas to go more main-stream and gain momentum)

    3) Technology has progressed enough for this to feel "high tech" instead of "stone age". Solar and wind power is easier to install. Composting and black/gray water treatment is easier to build into properties and very self-sufficient to cut down on water usage and increase landscape greenery. Things aren't so complicated or "icky" or hippy... hurdles that kept them from getting adopted.

    4) external prices from bulk provider has pushed folks to look for self-sufficent solutions. As our energy grid spends money to convert to a smart grid, it passes the cost onto customers. This increases electric bills. As waste and water treatment plants keep increasing costs, they pass it on to customers. So, customers want to explore self-sufficient power, water treatment, etc.

    5) people are liking the control they regain in their lives... by handling your own power, water, food, etc needs, you feel self-sufficient. By using technology to do it, you feel high-tech instead of like a savage.

There will still be certain places where bulk-processing or provision is useful, but even big companies are looking into their own waste treatment and electric generation. Some colleges that do the experiments use composting toilets in certain buildings, have collection in the basement, then use it as mulch for the grounds after it's composted. They have solar and wind power solutions. They experiment with thermal solutions in colder climates. These ideas get refined, then businesses can take up the ideas and pass them on to consumers. And the consumer sector keeps growing as we see more people moving away from the city (either b/c they have a mobile work lifestyle going where the work is or they telecommute) and prices of providers keeps going up to prompt folks to solve the problem themselves to save money.

Re comments: Solar panels are beautiful to me too. How about on the sun exposed walls of your buildings? Called "Integrated Photo Voltaics". Its all there, just do it. Why wait for a highly combustible chemical combination to be put in the walls of your bedrooms? Just go do it and store all your energy somewhere else. Bet if it were paper fiat money or bitcoin or gold you would figure out where and how to store it. Like making gun powder with all the extra energy you will harvest each day and setting it off at night when you forget how to start your fusion device because it got too COLD! Thanks again. Mostly have fun I hope and not blow yourselves up. Not too much trial and error if you can stop for a few minutes and think about it.

  • Carlos Tavares
    Carlos Tavares 3 месяца назад

This is new? You are right . . . So? Get it right and there is so much energy coming to earth each day that it is completely silly we don't just 'scoop' it up.
Are solar panels water proof? Well what do you do with waterproof things? How about putting them on your roof and use them as a water barrier. Can you make electricity at the same time? Yes. Pretty simple. Now what if you actually think some more?
Try this: 15% of the sun's energy hitting your roof (solar panels) ends up electricity energy (watts). So what about the other 85%? Not too far to the conclusion . . . or next step. +Cold Fusion. Cold fusion actually exists! So if that can exist how about Common Sense? I don't see why not. Do you really care if your roof looks glassey? How about if your utility bill = zero? Would you trade for that?
Now, when you really decide to get to the design of your home you can consider the earth beneath it. Things can get even better . . . if you learn to accept cold fusion as a fact and thinking a necessity you will appreciate there is no such thing as 'thermal mass' - all mass is thermal, hello? Good luck and thanks for the video. Remember heat goes from 'hot' to 'cold' and that the earth has a certain heat capacity and that concrete has a certain conductivity when it comes to heat. Simply put on your thinking caps and do a few simple arithmetic things like: add, subtract, multiply, and divide and you will never have a utility bill again . . . good luck Oh and remember what insulation is for . . . stops heat from going where it would otherwise. Good luck. Make it go where the heat capacity is if you want to store it during the day and then provide a way for it to get back into the rooms it came out during the day. You can see that at night those very rooms get cold if it is cold outside and insulation is not completely insulating or air change for health is occurring (maybe think of plants here) . . . It is all about conductivity to 'tune' your system or use some other way to make the heat go where you want it. Heat doesn't 'exist' anyway so why not have some fun; get warmth from it while it visits, and not have a utility bill to boot!

I see some marketing limitations with the solar roof idea. Home-owners probably want matching shingles everywhere if they are worried about looks, but only part of a house is likely to be well suited for solar. So the idea only makes sense for new houses or houses being reroofed for other reasons.
