Leno's mouth is running faster than the car !!! Drive the thing man. I speak from experience having driven thousands of miles in both a 288 and F40, 288 wins hands down. Much more streetable as far as ride height and suspension, you can throw around the 288 with ease, much more comfortable ride as well. I will say that the seat in the 288 is lacking, especially on a long (over 1 hour) drive, it's only negative compared to the F40.

the reasoning in why Ferraris Or Lambos are so PRICY is what it takes to keep them running right Example they take a special oil you can't use PENNZOIL MOBILE ONE it has to be the kind that's made for them. Same for brake fluid. They take special kind, anything else would in most times would VOID the worries

Whats even more so "art" than the obvious 288 Ferrari in the back ground... Is the running joke with the socks... I've seen about 3 or 4 videos now with this back and forth with these guys and it gets me every time.

In one of Doug Demuro’s videos he says that all of the Mercedes badges were underlined so that they only had to make one piece for each model. Is this the same reason why all of the letters in Ferrari are attached together in their own badge? (0:45)

Only the side mirrors are a bit weird. And the black bar at the front is... daring.. Would like to see some variations on that. But this is one of the coolest Ferrari's everr.

The 308 had a transverse-mounted engine. The 288 GTO had a longitudinal-mounted engine. That is a huge change in design for two cars that look similar.

I love the episodes with David Lee. The sock jokes seem to come up every time and it doesn't get old. They seem very similar in how they just love cars and drive them for the fun even if the car might depreciate by cruising around.

My everlasting love for the 288 GTO began with a carefully cut out photo spread from Road & Track taped to my childhood bedroom wall. This is, and always has been my "money no object" car. Thank you Jay and David for taking the time to discuss and drive it. For me, this is the best episode of the show ever!

One of the things I like about this video is the fact both of these guys are fair dinkum knowledgeable car nuts. They truly appreciate what cars are all about, the driving experience. These two blokes and a lot of Jay's other guests are people who would be great to sit around with and chew the fat on all topics relating to cars.

  • Jorge David De La Fuente

This car has the original soul of Ferrari design and excelent performance. The new Ferraris cannot reach that excelence and beauty of design are totally without shape.

I must have missed this one when it was in production also, although I may have just forgotten- I can't imagine that David E. Davis Jr. would not have run some coverage of this car, and I was one of the first few subscribers to 'Automobile' in early '86. I agree with practically all the earlier commenters- this car is gorgeous, perhaps the last truly beautiful high-end automobile... As far as comparing it to the Lamborghini Countach, that's terrible- the Countach was never an attractive car even in the beginning, and from the late '70s on it was butt-ugly!!!
