I think if you sprayed the metal structure black and stained the wood a dark brown or black it would look even better again. But this is a really good job overall!

Can you please tell us the exact parts you have used ?

YetAnotherTechChannelYetAnotherTechChannel (1 месяц назад)
You have a very good overview of the parts I used at 1:14
- 1x square profile 15x15mm
- 2x L shaped profiles 10x15mm
- 1x 30mm flat bar
- 1x 20mm flat bar
- 2x 30mm piece of wood (I think I used only one)
- 2x 20mm piece of wood (I think I used only one)

Computer parts are noting really special - this will work with any mini ITX motherboard and SFX power supply.

those small black box solutions use laptop CPU/GPU or BRoadcom/ARM57 solutions, not good for gaming and pricey when compared to a Ras Pi 3. Nice DIY case though!

Conner ReidConner Reid (2 месяца назад)
Wow, really nice-looking case! Love the simplicity of the design and the material palette and your approach to keeping it low-cost and efficient. The execution looks really well done for a DIY build, too. The way you varied the lengths and cuts of the wood pieces really helped keep all the inevitable human error stuff invisible and make everything feel intentional and clean. But I feel like you missed an opportunity to detail out the power button and make it a feature without breaking the aesthetic. It looks more like a cool box or cabinet and I think with just a little more detailing of the more "computery" parts, it could have been more easily identified as a case from a distance, but maybe that was your intention. Impressive work, sir!

seems like a weird choice of CPU cooler. i know its cheap and small but... its extremely noisy and i think fire would be better at cooling
I would probably have given it taller feet and placed all the I/O so it faced down

YetAnotherTechChannelYetAnotherTechChannel (1 месяц назад)
Well I actually did order a different cooler but it took way too long to deliver and I had to settle for the stock HSF that I had laying around.

For building on the fly and keeping your first try, +10. I to build my own and though your 2nd and 3rd attempt at the same design would be even better, to showcase your first attempt is honorable. Its unique and can easily sit on your desk as a conversation piece. Thank you for sharing, I mean it. Anyone not grading this a top mark is simply lacking vision and would likely never be able to compete with it.

My dream PC case for a server? Slim Mini ITX case with 4 2.5" drive bays and no PSU. That's right. I have an ASRock AM1H-ITX that has a DC-In connector and I'm going for a very slim server chassis that can allow a 70mm passive heatsink to fit. No 3.5" hard drive bays, just 2.5".

Mine's completely silent with an AMD Athlon 5350 APU. A half-height PCI expansion slot is fine for me.

Grayson PeddieGrayson Peddie (3 месяца назад)
This is a 4TB 2.5" hard drive.

3.5" looks way too bulky and I see 2.5" hard drives the way of the future.

Speaking of which, I'd like to see servers getting smaller and smaller, just as I'd like to see graphics cards getting smaller and become more energy efficient. For a slim desktop with half-height dual-slot expansion slots, a low-profile graphics card is a start:

That graphics card, a 1050 Ti 4GB Mini, can go in Silverstone ML09B:

I'm glad that Intel has taken an initiative by going for a 5x5 Mini-STX form factor, but it would be nice to simply have 4 SATA ports with a max of 4 2.5" hard drives or SSDs and more than 2 USB ports in the back when it comes to home automation.

YetAnotherTechChannelYetAnotherTechChannel (3 месяца назад)
I'm all about quiet systems but why only 2.5" drive bays in a server? What drives are you using? Mechanical? SSD?
I think 2.5" is limiting as I just loaded my main Synology unit with 2x 10TB Seagate IronWolf drives ;)Anyways, I did build a file server inside a vintage PHILIPS VCR a while ago using a somewhat similar ASRock motherboard powered using external power brick:

Yeah, I'll be revisiting this design at least twice. Once with a beefier CPU and discrete GPU and once more with a mini STX (probably) and a low TDP chip for a passively cooled build. The aesthetics will be different for each.
