Peyton Manning and his “idiot kicker” had a brief beef, but the football world never let it die

  • Published on Feb 13, 2019
  • Throughout his long and accomplished career, Peyton Manning was smart enough to avoid saying things to the media that would rile up his opponents or come back to bite him. Except the one time, in the middle of the 2003 Pro Bowl, he trashed his "idiot kicker" Mike Vanderjagt, because Mike had trashed him and Tony Dungy a few days earlier. Everyone said they were sorry, but that brief feud created a narrative that never really went away, even after Vanderjagt left Indianapolis.

Yeah the kicker must’ve been incredibly drunk when he made those comments. I mean seriously dude nobody even considers you to be an actual football player. So know your place.

LOL. Bois appearance was a much needed boost in morale for our troops sir. Also handling things internally between Peyton and the kicker should have been simple. Trade the kicker. Why would they even keep him after trashing a great QB and established coach? You gotta LOVE Peyton’s honestly and how candidly he spoke of it. He’s like “KICKER?” TF. Shut up and kick. Your not even really a part of this team.

I had no idea Indy used to be in the AFC East. It would have been epic back in the day had they stayed in that division. Watching Brady and Manning play each other twice a year and battle for the division every season would have led to some historic games.

FUN FACT: My son plays special teams and cornerback for his high school freshman team. After losing a close game to Carmel, one of the best Indiana football teams, I asked him who the hell was Carmel's kicker (extra points were landing in the parking lot). Turns out it was Adam Vinatieri's son. Trust me, he's already got plenty of scholarship offers.

If you're looking for some historical and/or soccer beefs - how about the Football War? Honduras and El Salvador facing off in North American semifinal qualifiers for the 1970 World Cup during a time of major escalating political tension between the two neighboring countries. Two home-and-away matches, plus a third playoff on neutral ground, in consecutive weeks of June 1969, each match accompanied by greater rioting and fan violence. El Salvador won the playoff in extra time; the same day, the Salvadoran government dissolved diplomatic ties. Two weeks later, El Salvador launched military strikes against Honduras. The "Football War" is not hyperbole - it was an actual war. 2,000 dead in 4 days of fighting, before a ceasefire was negotiated. The football matches were not the primary reason for the war, but they provided a flashpoint that certainly didn't ease tensions.
Not to be confused with the "Soccer Wars", which were not actual wars, but in fact a series of disputes between rival soccer organizations in the USA in the early decades of the 20th century that took what was the second-most popular professional sport in the country at the time (believe it or not) and killed it stone-dead, until it was eventually revived as a collegiate pastime in the 1970s. That's another beef. The USSF, the current group in charge of American soccer, is descended from the organization that was the winner/instigator/primary culprit/greediest bastard/only survivor of that rivalry (if you ever wondered why soccer in the USA is so screwed up).

That awkward moment when the Yankees ranked inside the top 10 in starting rotations last year, added JA Happ and James Paxton. Have arguably the best bullpen in baseball and Stephen A is so ignorant he just doesn’t pay any attention and instead runs his mouth about not getting aces. Also Mike Trout is “blockbuster”.

If you're a kicker, you just need to STFU and do your job. NEVER write checks that your teammates who actually play the game have to cash. No one cares what you think the team needs, because you have no solid frame of reference from which to comment. You kick. That's it. May as well devote a team slot to the hot dog vendor. Kick when they need you and then let the big boys do the heavy lifting. I don't care how many kicks he made in a row, he missed them when we needed them the most. There's a reason no one else in the league wanted him. Told Manning, "You and I are going to win this game." LOL!!!
