This song is a classic! I grew up in the 90s when this was on the radio every day . My 10-year-old daughter has this thing where she likes to ask me to play songs from my childhood because she’s interested in hearing the music that I grew up on. And more often than not she can’t stand the songs that I grew up on but the minute I played this song for her it’s been on her playlist ever since.

People call Snow a poser but he grew up in a Toronto housing project where most all of the other residents were Jamaican immigrants who organically influenced his cultural upbringing. He was surrounded by Jamaican people, music, slang, and accents growing up. And he also spent time in prison early in his career. The stuff he raps about isn't bullshit, it really happened. Snow may be a white, nerdy-looking Canadian dude but his music genuinely reflects his actual life experience.

It's ironic because some of the black icons of 90s gangsta rap like Ice Cube and Puff Daddy actually grew up in middle class families, attended mostly-white suburban private high schools, went to college, and weren't involved in crime or gangs. Snow has way more legit street cred than those guys do but he's forever stuck with the "poser" label simply because he's white and Canadian.

I enjoy being able to sing this entire song. Or rap it back, rather. One of the perks of having been listening to it since I was 5 in 1992. I get why people have a hard time understanding the lyrics but if you slow it down and really try to understand some of what he's saying, you can get an idea of the story he's telling in the song. The man grew up in the Jamaican neighborhoods up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Just up the highway from me (holla at ya boy, my 905 homies!). I also don't get why people say he's a one hit wonder. He's got some really awesome songs if you actually go and look. Some suggestions I can make for anyone wanting to hear more good Snow songs are: Runway, Legal, Lonely Monday Morning (or just Monday Morning, I forget), Anything For You, and my new personal favorite Snow track; SHAME featuring Mykal Rose.

People say he's a one hit wonder because most people (me included) can't name another song he's made. I know he had one other hit song that I can't remember the name of. But he literally had no other songs chart. The one other song charted but it wasn't a hit. So yes, he is literally, by definition, a one hit wonder.

Some fun facts for the younglings here:
Snow, grew up in a housing project in Toronto/Canada and used to hang out with a Jamaican crew, who tought him to speak padois and gave him the nickname "Snow White" that later became "Snow".
The guy was a proper gangsta,he was actually in jail, for attempted murder, when the song was first released and became a local hit in Canada.
After he got out,the song went huge in the charts it was practically everywhere back in 1993,there´s even a parody by Jim Carrey from "In Living Color".
He could never repeat the success of "Informer" but is still performing as a MC and DJ and he also does lots of charity work in his old hood.

What's crazy is his back story. He ain't a culture vulture. He's been down with Jamaicans since an early age. When they migrated North and moved into the projects where he lived. He stayed listening to Reggae and DJ at Reggae spots. Plus his rap sheet and the case he caught that he was talking about in this.

I was at a house party in 8th grade when this came out and the folks lived in this awesome old-wealth beach houses from the civil war overlooking the Gulf of Mexico on about 16 acres with a pool and a flawless yard, they had like 4 ATVs for whoever wanted cruise the property and inside had one of those British type pool rooms with mahogany walls and the ceilings were like 14 feet high, fireplace etc. The pool table had red felt, not green. Very beautiful joint. So many people showed up that the girl's mom ran off like 90% of the people but the close friends got to stay and, much to my relief, I squeaked by on that list lol But when ichy boom boom came on I remember being in that classy pool room feeling like a boss
