CHILI Crab & Noodles! Malaysia Food Tour Kuala Lumpur

  • Опубликовано: 29 май 2018
  • Kuala Lumpur is an amazing place for anyone with an appetite, and I explored some of the top recommended spots local foodies love and live for.
Bak Kut Teh is a meat stew that is boiled for hours with herbs until it becomes tender, off-the-bone succulent. Though it may be a heavy breakfast choice for some, I thought it was a great start to our food day.
The Chili Pan Mee (dry noodles) with a fried egg, anchovies, and chilis were amazing. The noodles were al dente, chewy, and the perfect snack to add to any food itinerary!
Even now as I'm writing this description, the thought of those crabs just makes me drool! At first, I thought the black crab was cooked in black bean paste, but that wasn't the case. It is covered in a dense, shrimp paste and is incredibly flavorful. The chili crab and the salted egg crabs were equally amazing in flavor, and if you dip some bread in the sauce, perfection!

That Rojak you had in Malaysia... is more closer to the Indian Rojak we have in Singapore.. but in Singapore, the sauce is something you dip into... and that one you had before in Singapore is more Chinese style. The sauce main ingredient includes Tamarind Juice.. which is gotten from the dried fruit of Tamarind or Assam... then soak in water... and then juice it... then the next important ingredient is Prawn Paste from that is more from Malaysia or Singapore... not the Cantonese type. Then mix them with sugar and crushed roasted peanuts, and maybe add some lime juice into the mix. But I think there is a vegetarian version where they just use Palm Sugar in place of the Prawn Paste.

There's a difference between 'rojak buah' which is a fruit mix and 'rojak mamak' or 'rojak keling' which is the deep fried mix. You can get both types in Singapore too, so it's not really a regional thing.

There are two types of Rojak, one is the Rojak Pasembor and another is Rojak Buah (Buah is 'fruit' in Malay language). The one you had in Singapore is Fruit Rojak, hence it is sweet and sour. The Rojak you had in the video is the savoury rojak known as Rojak, Pasembor or Rojak Pasembor. It is also available in Singapore and it is known simply as 'Pasembor'.

bro, the rojak in singapore is a fuit salad. we call it rojak buah which literally translates to fruit salad. And this rojak you are eating is originally called passembur in Penang where it came from which is a kind of "salad" thats why its also called rojak. hahaha fyi

As avid Bak kut teh lover I dont think this shop make a justice to represent Malaysian version of bak kut teh.. typically it will have quite a strong herbal taste and it is purely made of pork only. When they cook it, they don't mix it with a bunch of other ingredients as it will distort the original herbal and porky taste. Others side ingredients (mushroom, tofu skin, etc) will be cook separately and serve in another separate bowl.
