When a bullet is fired outside a gun it looses almost all of its power because the gun directs all the power to the bullet and out the barrel( which makes the bullet fly fast) but when the chamber is not there to direct power, or goes everywhere and the .22 would hardly break skin. You’d be more worried about the casing than the bullet.

    EXE_CUTE_OR 7 days ago

For the bullet to be shot with the force of one that is in a gun, there must be enough pressurized gasses behind the bullet from the gunpowder to propel it forward. The gasses were all being released from the casing exploding. A barrel helps keep the casing together and focus the gasses into one direction of where the bullet is traveling.

I think the problem is that the scorcher is making the brass weaker and so it explodes out that spot and makes the bullet have less power

    WIFIGHOST CRUISER 2 months ago

Why did you not use a high speed camera? You could try a piece of thread around the bullet going under the platform and attached to a spring loaded trigger to trigger the camera. When the bullet exploded the loop of thread around the bullet would break and high speed camera would go off. Or some variation thereof.
I'm wondering why no bullet fragments hit the Solar Shield which is huge and right in front of the bullet?

The cartridge must be inside a chamber and the bullet in a barrel. The burning gunpowder creates gasses that accelerate the bullet to high velocity - without the chamber and barrel, the gasses disperse before the bullet can be accelerated properly.
To give an example of how low-power bullets are outside a gun, when I was in elementary school (in the 70's), a classmate brought a box of .22s to school and we stood in a circle throwing the rimfire .22s onto the sidewalk. Some would fire and, yes, we would get hit... nobody got more than a small bruise. The most dangerous part is not the bullet, but the brass casing that splits apart.

    Here's some interesting ideas
Will C4 explode when frozen in liquid nitrogen?
What will a RPG-7 rocket / ammo do under a solar scorcher?
Will a gun shoot when you have it in a vacuum chamber?

    • Hasse the one

way to ruin it man. i just want the 25 bux man :P LMAO

    • vincent Knight
      vincent Knight 6 months ago

Yes to all the above. The c4 may be a little slower to see off but it will go bang. Gunpowder contains it's own oxidizers and fuel so it will go bank. And the scorcher will set of propellant but some require a shock to get them going like c4, others like smokes powder will react the same wheater set off by a primer or heat.

There is no average bullet speed unless you tie it to the caliber. Average bullet speeds for various calibers can range from a low of 700+ FPS for a .45 cal round to high of 4100+ FPS for NATO-like rounds. The average of all handgun rounds is about 1100 fps; centerfire rifle is about 2900 fps.

  • Jonathan Fisher
    Jonathan Fisher 6 months ago

From my experience as a firefighter when exposed to heat the cartridge pops but the bullet will not “fire” because the way a bullet is designed it needs the tube for the gas to push it down (the chamber down to the barrel). We’ve been at fires where ammunition is popping but it never puts us at risk

  • Andoxico
    Andoxico 6 months ago

Without a barrel, once the bullet is ejected from the casing all the energy spills out the sides. The barrel focuses the energy from the explosion forward, pushing the bullet along with it. This is why longer barrels produce a higher muzzle velocity.
