10 OLDEST Technologies That Scientists Can't Explain

  • 10 Ancient Inventions that Science Can not Explain
    + Greek Fire
he Greek fire used by the Byzantine Empire in the 7th century is one of the biggest secrets in science.
    + Damascus Steel
Sword was constructed with Damascus steel. The strength, flexibility and wave-like patterns made them completely unique. It is a fact that they could cut a silk veil in the air, and they could slice a rock without damaging the blade's sharpness.
    + The Voynich Manuscript
Wilfrid Voynich, a Lithuanian antiquarian of Polish origin got a manuscript by an anonymous author. The content of this manuscript is still unknown. botany, biology, and astrology.
    + The Antikythera Mechanism
It is is actually a 2000 years old analog computer. The Antikythera mechanism was recovered from the bottom of the sea in 1901, near Antikythera island, Greece.
    + Zhang Hang Seismograph
Zhang-Hang, a Chinese scientist, and an astronomer from the East Han Dynasty presented this seismoscope in the year 132AD. It is a copper vessel with dragon heads aiming at the cardinal points.
    + Ulfberht Sword
Many tombs from the Viking age have been discovered all over the north of Europe. Archaeologists have found inside the tombs a total of 171 Ulfberht swords. These swords were made with techniques that were very advanced for that age. They got their name from the inscription +ULFBERHT+ on their blades.
+ The Iron Pillar of Delhi
This iron pillar, weighing six tonnes and 7.21 meters high, which has not rusted during more than 1600 years, it is still an engineering mystery, located in Delhi, India.
    + The Phaistos Disc
Luigi Pernier, an Italian archaeologist, discovered the Phaistos disc on the Greek island of Crete in 1908. This disc, also known as the Rosetta stone of the Minoan civilization, and made from baked clay.
    + Roman Dodecahedron
One of those mysteries is the Roman dodecahedron. It dates back to 200 years AD. It is a hollow object with 12 sides, made-up of brass or stone.
    + Giant Stone Spheres
More than 500 pre-Columbian stone spheres were discovered in the Sierpe district, in the south of Costa Rica in 1939. The size of the stones ranges from 30 to 257, and they weigh between two kilos and 16 tonnes.

+wildstyle666brooke Yup, I'ld say that's probably a good guess... Since there has been found several other swords with the same name (and especially if this name are "stamped on" a great deal of swords). If that's the case, and since they're probably originating AFTER, at least the Viking 'hay-day' - i'ld agree that it's probably some blacksmith's "brand"... Or, perhaps a (then perhaps new) "type" of sword.
Since I believe there were several "types" around at that time (like, really long ones-to be wielded w. 2 hands, a somewhat shorter (1 hand), types mainly for slashing (w. 1 or 2 edges) and another for mainly stabbing... For ex.
And-with the double-edged, two-handed ones - they were always trying to make them longer (which of-course at that time was of great advantage)... Maybe, this could be a brand of such a one?

the ulfbert swords became quite popular and other blacksmiths were forging their own swords as to copy them with the same markings, I do believe (in my opinion) that it wasn't just a marking since many swords with the same "signature" have been found in many Viking burial sites ...I believe ulfbert swords were from a particular blacksmith or group of from a specific place or forge. just my opinion, thank you

The spheres were probably just one barely functional autistic savant's lifetime obsession. "What do these spheres represent?" "Oh these? You see the King's nephew, Quixel is "special". They give him a hammer and some string, and he goes nuts on any big rock he sees. We keep them around because he's the king's nephew and all, and the kids like playing on them. Besides, what else are we going to do with them? They're big rocks."

  • Chris S

Well Greek Fire isn't something I would call a technology in itself. Regardless its not a mystery or unexplainable in the sense this commentator makes it sound. Its just without a specimen of Greek Fire ingredients there are countless chemical solutions that could work and were available in that era. It would kind of be like watching a film where napalm is dropped from a plane during WWII. The effects of it are explained and why its used. In fact everything Is explained except what it is. Chemists 100 years from now could make all sorts of chemicals that would work as napalm. But without knowing its simply gasoline made into a gel form how would they ever know from second hand knowledge that doesn't reveal the ingredients. So unless actual napalm was found or an old forgotten document was found a scientist 100 years from now would never be able to technically explain napalm. Not because it can't be done. Its not even difficult. But if you want the precise way to make it and deploy it then you need evidence. In all likelihood manufacturing processes of that era were not as precise as even the age when alchemy began in earnest. So there likely is not one way to make greek fire. Although there would be incentive to fool your enemy into thinking that to be the case if you wanted to keep it a secret. The manuscript talked about was indeed dated to 500 years ago. But just as today if you found someone gullible enough in that day and age to buy ancient literature or paintings then you could stand to make some money. Especially if it were the church. I believe it was the Jesuits who were interested in any texts or manuscripts at that time. Applying modern language application and science yields a result that it is not even a language. Language is a science. You need a Rosetta stone to translate ancient languages but every language ever discovered follows the same set of rules. Certain letters appear more often than others. Or words appear more often than others. Such as vowels are the most used English letters. Words such as "the", "of", "is", "it", "and", etc. appear much more often than words like establishmentarianism. Its very basic. Its so basic that science of language can be applied to other more intelligent species such as dolphins and using graphing techniques you can see how closely something resembles a language. Meaning some animals communicate well even if they don't have the perfect slope that a human language should. The manuscript is no better than a random scatter plot. Furthermore cryptography is a science. You need some sort of logical language to base code off of or all you'll get is very confused people. Even if the language is invented just for coding purposes it will literally be easily resolved today with computers if the coded language is based off any modern ones. The code also follows the same rules of a language in certain ways or you would not be able to effectively communicate with it. So from the source of the book the Jesuits got it from, their well known fondness for any literature during that time, and the well known richness of the catholic church its been written off as a forgery meant to earn the author or authors a decent amount of money for the time. People think they see the Andromeda Galaxy in there simply because there is a spiral like object painted into a page. They then take this and just assume its true and that everyone agreed to reductium ad absurdum. Going from one fringe/absurd assessment to the next. A common theme in ancient aliens by the way. If aliens had visited Earth and not shared technology with us that would save lives, the environment, make energy so cheap it would be free (by cheap I mean abundant like a fusion reactor), and all sorts of other technologies that would have spared centuries to millennia of hardships and pain. The first reaction from me would be to be pissed off at them and ask why since there are no logical reasons not to share enlightening technology and philosophy if you have it. I didn't invent almost everything I use in everyday life yet I can safely use it. We don't keep technologies on how to make crops flourish better in third world countries out of fear they aren't ready to learn it yet and they should need to learn it on their own. The Damascus steel sounds like rubbish. I even read some people familiar with metallurgy say as much. I also find it difficult to believe any type of steel no matter how well developed into a weapon would never dull. Materials much stronger than steel by 1000x over can be made into a blade but it would still dull. The sharpest material known is actual obsidian. A natural volcanic glass. It breaks off in a way that it forms the sharpest blades imaginable. When looked at by an electron microscope even a surgeons blade is jagged compare to obsidian on the molecular level. It is glass so break easily but can also be made into rudimentary but highly effective weapons. Still the force of friction is something that everything experiences. Why Damascus steel would be exempt from this physical law would not make sense. Friction is caused by the force of electromagnetism. There is even a coefficient of friction with 0 being no friction. That does not exist so everything will dull. Maybe a little a first but as more atoms are stripped away from a blade it will only remain sharp if you maintain it properly. This seems like a sad or good hearted by poorly done attempt at making a youtube documentary type lesson. Exploiting people's gullible nature if they don't know about something (so they accept it without question) and the fun in a mystery. To add even more fun to it she phrases it as if ancients knew of technologies we can't fathom today which simply is not true. At least when it comes to things that actually existed as opposed to mythology. I stopped watching at that point because I didn't see it getting better and the rest of my time was better spent writing all this than listening to her while I have time to kill.

Most of the sword making parts are utter BS ...Patterned steel or as it is falsely known "Damascus Steel" has been around for thousands of years also swords are never made from moulds unless one is using brass - always forged (and lately by metal removal) that is the only way to produce a hardened yet flexible Steel. These guys need to research their videos before putting them online. Make me think that most of the content is not Kosher!

Why did the Antikythera mechanism smerge together into a blob?Just do the simple speculations. Why doesn't the iron pillar Rust?Any sword can cut Limestone Rock or Tufa Rock or Pumice Rock or Sandstone or Soapstone or quartz(it shatters). Specify the rock and thickness otherwise the claim is useless. How much starch in the silk? The Voynich manuscript was found by a Polish scientist...like where? The location will most likely have the written language closest to it in its native tongue. Greek fire:what did they have in those days?Goat fats and maybe sulfur from the volcano and cheap watered down wine(drink enough of that and a match flame is big.) The round balls I figured out..."welding splatter, except from a volcano" and it rained down onto a land that was drenched by rain. Perfectly round. Maybe an unlucky dinosaur under one of them?

What is modernly called "Damascus Steel" is pattern welded steel of sections of varying carbon content. When etched with acid, the acid affects the differing alloys of steel differently, revealing the pattern.
A simple search on either RUclip or even Google will easily reveal much better information on Damascus steel and what it actually is (Just a term to refer to pattern-welded steel)
And your Ulfbert sword information is also grossly wrong.
I would suggest doing some actual research or write your segments better if you have done any research.

Your first three entries are rubbish. Greek fire uses 3 ingredients: oil, sulphur, and potash, as long as you can get the proportions right you can make it quite easily. Damascus Steel is made by layering steel of different grades and forging them together. The Voynich Manuscript was solved by a Hungarian man, who proved it to be written in Old Hungarian.
