I agree with you on the Dany arcs. As soon as she's trying to rule shit, it gets boring (see: the ENTIRETY OF THE MEEREEN ARC, which is like TWO ENTIRE FUCKING BOOKS, WHAT ARE YOU DOING MARTIN).

However, I also kind of feel like that's part of the point. Dany is trying to rule with not enough resources, and she is too naive in her ruling... which is why she gets toppled and has to run out into the steppe and meet up with Drogon. That scene's rawness - in her willingness to chow down on raw meat and her rekindled connection with her most feral dragon - suggests that she is about to learn or has learnt her lesson, and will be ruling with blood and fire from now on (as her family motto states)... but of course we have no further scenes with Dany because Martin hasn't finished the next damn book.

I have to disagree about Sandor, he both had a role and a character arc.
The hound had a redemption arc, motivation, and a lesson for Arya. He was fine.

I was rejoicing when cersei killed all the people in the cept or sept, idk, anyway I was happy to see the high sparrow die in the dramatic wild fire explosion, it shows that even as calculating cersei thought she could be she put herself in a dumb situation where she felt the only way to eliminate the problem of the high sparrow and his followers was to destroy them in the explosion of wild fire in the sept because they had too much power over Kings landing because cersei tried to be calculated and controlling of tommen and margerey so much that it totally back fired on her so she had to take drastic measures but it caused tommen to commit suicide and cersei had the nerve to blame Tyrion for her children’s death

  • Karen Guessman
    Karen Guessman 6 days ago

I mean if they wanted to end the show was dany becoming mad queen and Jon manning up and killing his queen as he knows she’s going to destroy the 7 kingdoms and cause unnecessary blood shed of innocents then it would be a better ending for Jon to kill dany, then swallow his pride and maybe realize even though he didn’t want it he was probably could put into words best by explaining to the council of rulers still left that dany may have acted like she wanted to do the right thing for the 7 kingdoms but she wasn’t and maybe killing her is the real thing that broke the wheel, she claimed she wanted to break the so called “wheel” but I can honestly say that wheel was broken after Roberts rebellion if u do recall that a Targaryen rule over the 7kingdoms was pretty much like an insane dictatorship, an insane dictatorship that was overthrown yet dany was trying to bring that type of rule back under her reign, and maybe we should have each of the remaining 7kingdoms elect new leaders that would make deal and alliances with the other kingdoms...and maybe the unsullied would see the logic in his statement instead of the bs speech we get from Tyrion and bran saying the most bs line that’s y I came all this way....that bs was the cringiest bs ending ever

Yeah like the mad queen stuff came out of nowhere with dany in the show, even if it was meant to be overshadowed, d&d knew this for a while then they should have at least shown her growing crazier and crazier in each episode of season 8....

Personally I really saw a drop in the quality of dialogue writing in season 7 and 8. 7 is almost entirely made up of characters who've never met each other before talk about stuff the have or don't have in common by referencing earlier events. The rest is characters reuniting and saying "Remember that one time?" This also makes up over half the dialogue of season 8. It makes sense if they can't come up with new stuff just keep bringing up old shit.

Lol how exactly did D&D cut the unnecessary stuff from the books? They didn't. By cutting out Young Griff for example they made Danys descent into madness less believable. Nah D&D only cared about the Red Wedding and nothing after that.
Oh and you haven't even finished all the books? Well why do you think you can confidently say that the show has cut unnecessary scenes?

I'm glad you showed a clip of the little girl burnt by Drachen in season 3. Here's a big problem: Daenerys locks her dragons up after they burn a single child and severely diminishes her power because they pose a threat to her perception of right and wrong. But....simply because she's feeling a little lonely and outshined by John she uses them to slaughter a city full of children? That's a weak character, and it's not true to the values of the series. The whole series starts by its main protagonist exercising his values at great peril to himself & his loved ones. And the whole time I spent watching the battle for Winterfell I couldn't get over the fact that none of this would be happening if it weren't for the stupid plan to grab a zombie & acquire the allegiance of an enemy that was never trustworthy. And I want to mention again how stupid the whole affair between Jami & Euron was. The world is ending, so the best thing to do is swim to shore and battle a cripple to the death in a private duel for glory? The writers realized how stupid this was. Which is why they had to have Euron explain his motives as he himself. This is a flaw in storytelling that is called "As you know Bob." To me, it seemed like the writers were scrambling to seam up all the storylines. And I don't understand why. Considering the money machine GOT was, what was the hurry to finish it all about. Why couldn't there be a long epic battle at the wall? The thing kept them out for thousands of years, but in your paranoia you forget about its existence and give the walkers the very tool they need to destroy it? Dumb dumda dum. Then if it takes a season for Danny to get Cersi out of power with mitigating collateral damage so be it. Why was HBO in such a hurry to conclude its most profitable series?????

    • Jack Sense
      Jack Sense 9 days ago

Ohh....and the whole fucking thing with Arya going to Kings Landing, then getting to within 100 yards of Cersi and being told, "You probably shouldn't bother... As a matter of fact, it might be a better idea if you run for your life." Again, the whole time I watched her flee I was thinking, "You shouldn't even be here in the fist fuckiing place." The thing felt like a bad horror movie.

  • Simon Price
    Simon Price 9 days ago

Couldn't have put it better myself. And here's another thing for you to chew on: you could blame me for the way this show turned out. Because I worked on it briefly last year, filming the 'Long Night' episode. I was involved with the SFX department (the physical effects, like fires, wind, snow, blood, etc). I worked in that quarry in Belfast, in the howling wind, hail, sleet, snow, and rain, for 25 nights straight. (the full-time crew members worked some 50 odd days).
I will say that it was a pleasure to work on it. I loved the show - past tense. And having been in the movie business for over a decade now, and knowing how unpleasant many leading actors, producers, and directors can be, I'm happy to report that all the cast and crew were very nice people indeed. I digress.
But perhaps the reason why this show went off the boil is due to me haphazardly, and completely innocently, grabbing David Benioff in a headlock from behind whilst on set filming one of the battle scenes. I mistook him for a friend of mine who was also on set and happened to look almost identical to Benioff from behind. I shook 'my friend' around a bit, then play-slapped his head for a bit until I realised that my friend was actually standing ten feet away, looking at me with abject horror. I stopped and slapped Benioff on the back, and said: " Oops! Sorry! I thought you were that guy!"
I had zero clues as to who he was until I was taken aside by a member of the SFX dept, who told me who I'd just man-handled! For as long as I live I'll never forget the look of dumb-founded incredulity on Benioff's face as he turned to free himself from my grasp! To his credit he never said anything - but perhaps I dislodged something, and that's why the show turned out to be a total turkey by the end!

HBO needs to salvage Season 8 because if left as it is, it will completely poison the entire franchise : syndications, the upcoming prequels and any sequels will flop because S8 left such a bad taste in everyone's mouth and any potential new fans of the prequels/sequels would be scared off by the horrible rep of the ending Season 8. It's not a fairness to fans issue, it's a business issue for HBO.

  • natnut2008
    natnut2008 9 days ago +1

If HBO apologized and promised a do-over of Season 8, replaced by 2 new seasons, written in the vein of the first few seasons, with much more consultation with GRR Martin, I suspect 80% of viewers would be deliriously happy and the new seasons would retain the viewership. And and keep D+D far away from the rewritten seasons.

@Summer TymeAt least it was epic. I thought the fight between Jame and Euron was pointless and boring. The guy swims to shore to duel a one-handed man in a fight to the death for glory with no one watching????????? Now that was fucking pointless!!!!

    • Summer Tyme
      Summer Tyme 9 days ago

Jack Sense : It was pointless and boring. It meant nothing and the outcome of them both killing each other was predictable. Really his brother is just a Zombie slave of Cersei. Why would the hound kill himself to kill his brother. It would have been better understood as mercy than revenge. But I don’t think that was intended. Dan and Dave are just the worst.

Good video, but you got the Dany part so wrong. "Kind and benevolent" are not accurate descriptions. Her character arc was predictable since maybe season 3 or 4 and it was the only possible outcome. Her only concern was power the whole time and I don't know how so many overlooked this...

    • Zephius64
      Zephius64 9 days ago

@Summer Tyme Except it is true. Since season 2, she only cares about armies, ships even stealing them to get what she wants. It was her advisers keeping her emotional outbursts and narcissism in check the whole time.

    • Summer Tyme
      Summer Tyme 9 days ago

Zephius64 Cuz it’s not true. She was zealot, but her actions did not reflect only a love of power. In fact she made her worst decisions out of sloppy sentiment in accordance with bad writing.
Could have gone straight for Cersei seasons ago, but went on the Jon Snow-bunny-haunt North of the wall, which begin her downfall. Everything related to Jon - per the plot - led to her doom.

I don’t understand why season 8 is getting so much hate. It’s game of thrones you can’t expect it to be so simple and work out the way you want it and you can’t expect basic character arcs. People are complicated it’s not just “this person is bad and this person is good” no one is perfectly bad or good we are all somewhere in the middle. Jamie for example has a more advanced character arc, he has feelings for sersie and briean at the same time, don’t be so simply minded and think that he can only have feelings for one of them I mean sersie is his sister for gods sake and briean and Jamie’s characters have been leading up to this since season 4. Yes Jamie road all the way to winterfell and back but it wasn’t simply just about “fucking briean” and then going back to sersie as you say. Game of thrones has very realistic and good drama that’s why so many people watch it. If your just watching it for dragons and cool cgi then go watch Godzilla instead. Also denairis went mad with rage and anger when she slaughtered the city and is that hypocritical of her, yes it is but that’s intentional, no one is perfect and you can’t expect her character to be perfect and do everything right. Yes this season isn’t the best the season but no way it’s bad!
