  • It is always nice to come across a snake that has no interest in killing me. Bogertophis subocularis, commonly known as the Trans-Pecos rat snake or the Davis Mountain rat snake, is a species of medium to large, nonvenomous rat snake in the family Colubridae. Bogertophis subocularis is endemic to the Chihuahuan Desert. News Theme by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (creativecommons.org/licenses/...) NO snake has any interest in killing a human unless it is attacked (e.g., grabbed) or cornered without an escape route. Imagine that your eye level was 1/2 inch above the ground like a snake's - - what do you think a human would look like? To wild snakes unused to humans, we look like Godzilla on steroids.

I prefer to take no chances....a snake bite is a very expensive lesson.

Actually, I know quite a few people and have read of others who do relocate them rather than killing them. But I respect your right to make your own decision when it comes to your home and family. No need to get testy - - we're just having a (hopefully) civil exchange of views here.

Oh please...you come out and you are welcome to relocate them. The one or two I kill per year won't make a dent in the overall population and they don't go to waste. I eat them and cure the skins.

Wish you would relocate them rather than killing them. But especially if you have young children, you have to put your family first.

Yes, that is true. But I don't tolerate any rattlesnakes near my house since coming upon one accidentally can mean a chance of death or the very least, a very expensive hospital stay. It is not their intention - it is their ability to kill that concerns me. That being said...I only see one or two a year near my house and I kill them immediately to avoid the chance of harm to myself of the other animals that live here.

What a beautiful snake! My first-ever job was in the live animal room of a small science museum; snakes were among the animals we cared for. I have loved them ever since, and have never been frightened of them. We had a corn snake who loved to be held...he would tie himself in a loose knot around my wrist and sit with his head resting on my knuckles. :)

Slow clap to the random ant who almost climbed over the snake at the 3rd attempt (1:12).

I love the music. . . but don't particularly care for the snake, yeah I know he's harmless but he still don't look like a potential friend! The photography however was really good! Thanks! S. Carolina

Love your vids and glad to see you are doing well - wish I had the time to make the trip and share a 2 for 1 at the Stardust w/ ya but the farm here keeps me busy. Take care my friend and know that like the man upstairs I'm always lookin in on ya.

Like I said in the description - nice to see a friendly snake every now and then. Although I only come across a rattlesnake about twice a year, it always scares the crap out of me.

Texas rat snakes are my favorite, Cinco de Mayo, 2009 we were entertained most of the day with two of them mating in the heritage oaks that shade our house, they were at least 5 footers and made for a good show, long before I had a good camera. Yes, know your snakes so that you can get close enough to enjoy!

i bet you two are playing cards & sipping some whiskey about right now. I would name him " Sneaky Snake". After the song of the same name.
