I feel like folks saying "this is cheating" also think that the only way to solve any ordinary puzzle is to do it with the picture side down. If the puzzle designer didn't want there to be such a solution, then they could have used completely flat colors and a plastic base. Would have been just as cheap. Or they could have made it so the solution actually involves pieces which are placed in the puzzle against the grain of the wood. It would look strange, but also be a harder solve.

there is 2 axis symmetry in the puzzle so how hard can it be? there must be some pieces at least 2 times or 4 times, and as you said the last one has the 4 way symmetry the whole puzzle has.

love your videos FLEB! anytime I'm in a chill mood and wanna watch a guy solve some puzzles i come to either you or Mr Puzzle. puts me in a calm mood and relaxes me! I'm not super into puzzling, i do own a few and have played around with friends puzzles, but i really love the art behind making these and the thought and skill needed to create such elaborate and challenging puzzles. keep up the good work! love the content.

I like when he said 4 way symmetry, but I noticed ..... You can turn over each piece so the last piece would have 8 ways it could go♾

I don't know 100%, but given the designer, I think that it's almost certainly the intended way to solve it.

  • healthflo21

So you cheated. That is the trick. If the game came painted, you wouldn't have been able to solve it.

  • Emil Sørensen

Not to imply anything, but is the puzzle really intended to be solved using the wood grains?
Reminds me of how I'd solve Rubik's cubes by tearing it apart and putting it back together again. I mean, it works. I'd probably do it. It's not that easy to come up with the idea.
I do wonder if the designer isn't at home going "Doh! I forgot the pieces shouldn't come from the same piece of wood!"

    • FLEB
      FLEB  Year ago

I think so! Given how incredible the designer of the puzzle is, I doubt he would have an unintended solution in his puzzle.

When I looked at the shape of the puzzle, I figured it would have 4 quadrants with exactly the same solution, so I would have put the pieces in groups of 4, then worked on one corner to find the solution. Since there was only one of the last shape, I knew that would be in the centre.

Great video, I love puzzles but people love to talk and talk and talk and talk before getting to the reason I clicked on the link. To see the puzzle. I don't mind people telling you about a puzzle but do it briefly or during the solve. I watched one the other day where 5 mins they were still talking about it not even holding it shifting angles nothing just rattling off. I was already a bit irritated and the talking made it worse so I thumbs down and went to another video. This one on the other hand is done right!!

  • burgersnchips
    burgersnchips 2 years ago

I think using the wood grain is cheating. You solve the puzzle by trial and error not by using a clue left because it was made using eco-friendly materials.

  • MennerMovies
    MennerMovies 2 years ago

Another clue seems to be that it is all about squares. There is a tilted square in the middle, and all pieces have parts of squares that seem too be complemented with other half squares, but in the wrong way, so they don't form a square together, but then again the whole puzzle seem to be filled with it. The outline is a square, also. And ther's a distinctive pastern of diagonal symetry, if you look at the beginning.

  • Mark Gearing
