Well I'd just like to thank you for this tutorial because I'm just half way trough my build and it's coming along great. The only thing I changed is I cut the holes for the wight pulley at the beginning and had the boards laser cut from wood.
Still need to figure out the hinge having some trouble.
But thumbs up for this one! Saved me a lot of money for something I need for a video. :)

I like your design and am currently building my own. However, I found the actual cost of making this slider to be about double what you said in the video. Although I may be saving some money, I could have bought a low end slider for about the same price and saved myself a lot of time. I have yet to finish my final product, but I hope it works as good as the video shows. If so I will be happy.

Awesome project and extremely great results! But after you have built the slider, were do you mount it to? Tripods? Special build legs? I'm a noob so might be a stupid question, but nothing on this was in the video...

btw I think this could be done for a lot cheaper if you use EMT conduit which is a metal pipe its $4 for 10ft compared to $25 for 10ft copper pipe!
and then for the end pieces you can buy an EMT conduit handy box (basically a box with holes cut out for the pipe to go through) then secure it to the box with EMT nuts (the pipe has threading on it so you can screw it in) the only difference is you'll get an end piece on the top and bottom of the piping which I don't think is too bad for $1 cost

for anyone making this like I did, some here is so improvements and alternative methods.
if you put washers so that they petrude out the top of the bearings the bearings won't activate. and you'll have alot of friction all drag. what you want to do is think how skateboard bearings are attached.
get yourself some speed washers and some bearing spacers, I got 10mm ones. the speed washers are very thin and are not wide enough to rub on the bearing face. used one under the bolt head. the spacers can be used to get out of the recess where the bearings is pressfitted. then you can use a nut ontop of that followed by a washer, then through the MDF and followed by washer and wingnut or domenut. do same for all. now you have really smooth rollers that actually use the bearings rather than spinning on the bolt. bearing spacer and speedwashera are litterally only in m8 as they are made for skateboard bearings.
for the marking tool, do the you a knife as you can barely see the line (if you don't polish copper tubing) get a scrap piece of MDF as long as the distance from you wrist to finger tips and duct tape a sharpy with tip half a finger length in from edge. now you can draw down the length with a easily seen line.
comment, like if you want me to make a short video about the bearing issue. or a picture of the similified marking tool?

It's a very nice slider, and you've explained the build very well. I wonder, though, if copper is the best material for the tracks? Seems like it could bend pretty easily, especially if you're using a full-size camera rig, like a Sony FS7. Lastly, transporting it fully assembled would be quite an ordeal, and it's not designed to disassemble -- I'll bet you could tweak your design to make it portable. Well done.

I think Copper pipe would be one of worst materials to use. First off, it's the most expensive metals to buy. Second, it would is heavy to carry around. Go with carbon Fiber or aluminum. It Looks nice, but I don't think it's necessary

I am going to be building this today. Woke up a little earlier than usual at 5 am and as soon as the DIY stores open I am headed straight there. This rig is incredible looking and uses materials that I think make i look professionally made. Can't wait to see how mine comes out. You've got yourself a new sub after that video. Now time to go back through all your other videos to see what else I can get materials for before I go out haha. Keep up the good work, amazing job on this rig.

it turned out great! (sorry for the delay in response. Been on summer vacation). I used some different materials to try and minimize all noise. I used different chord as when I used braided line I could hear some scratching noises but if you are going to be using this for recording examples like in the video where original audio is replaced by music then it does work fantastic as it has little to no give. I actually used to climb so I used climbing rope instead since it has a smooth texture and you would be hard pressed to hear anything at all.
