Arctic Resin Table

  • Опубликовано: 18 июн 2018
  • I saw a light diffusing panel while walking through the home center and the idea hit me like a brick! I knew I had to try it. Sort of my take on an ocean table
I've never done pattern transfer in resin before and certainly not a tabletop size! I definitely learned a lot from this project and I'm very happy with the ultimate outcome.

I was very inspired by this and I'm kind of leaning into making a sea world gaming table (for miniatures and rpg games).
My problem is, here in Norway resin is hard to come by, except for resin glue.
I'm sure there will be a few thoughts about this, but can I have recommendations on what epoxy to use?
I have a guy in the US that can ship me the good stuff :p
Basic plans is to have islands or small pieces of land here and there as well - ideas on what they should be made of would also be greatly appreciated. - That or just make a complete ocean table.

When applying the black sealant (silicone or whatever you're using) do not use your finger to smooth it out but instead use one of those cheap plastic lighters or the end of a pen that is rounded, this way you have less finishing to do in the end.

    Hello people.
Can I please have some advise?
I need to make a resin kitchen table. It will have some 1 inch wood on the middle of the resin pour (2 inches thick), the rest will be the resin itself. On one side it will be suported by a metal base attached to the wall and on the other side I will have the same resin desing as one single, same width leg.
It doesnt have to be a 45° joint, the top can be just placed on the leg. How would you reccomend to attach the leg to the top of the bar? it is basically resin with resin and some wood in between. I was thinking poket holes maybe, but dont tant to crack the resin with the screws accidentally.
It will be heavy, 2 meter top piece. Thank you for your time, everyone. h

I’m curious! Can you use Lumiere metallic paint and put drops in the resin for a cool effect? Or will it not move through the resin like alcohol inks would?

For outdoor use it would have been good to add zinc oxide to the resin or some other UV blocker. The resin is likely to cloud and crack over time.

Have you considered doing anything with tempered glass in epoxy? Not necessarily for turning since I’d assume that to be too dangerous if the glass wasn’t sufficiently hidden by the epoxy but I feel like there might be some interesting light effects with the material. I’d originally considered those prisms from elementary school ,to take advantage of the refracting light, but I don’t think they make them small enough for a window pane. Any-who thanks for your content, I really enjoy your videos!

I have three cheap and easy ideas. But I haven't seen them done before.
    1. Use an old pan or something rusted, scour the rust pieces into a dye mix with crushed fool's gold or crushed tinfoil and a VERY light color. It should be interesting.
    2. Try casting a fishing pole's handle so you can cast when you aren't casting because you pre-cast your caster. lol
    3. Try singing more you are amazing at that. I enjoy someone who can hit notes and carry a tune.

HI Peter, First, I wanted to thank you so much for your videos. You have kept me interested in wood and plastic craft which is a a new world to my usual blacksmithing ventures while I am recovering from a very traumatic accident gettin hit head on by a drunk driver and if that wasn't enough, finally reaching remission rom leukemia. I wanted to as you about using resins for stained glass window panels. Here in Baltimore, the top window above the door was, at one time, universally a stained glass window. Over the years of providing proper ventilation, many homes have ditched them for more conventional units. What resins would work best for this? My second interest more to my field is in blacksmithing, I like making knives with tangs that either form a void in the handle or cutting one in....either way, I d like to fill that void with a decorative resin. Your thoughts...Thanks, DocChuck from Baltimore.
