Arctic Resin Table

  • Опубликовано: 18 июн 2018
  • I saw a light diffusing panel while walking through the home center and the idea hit me like a brick! I knew I had to try it. Sort of my take on an ocean table
I've never done pattern transfer in resin before and certainly not a tabletop size! I definitely learned a lot from this project and I'm very happy with the ultimate outcome.

What if you made the table vibrate a bit, like with an orbital sander or something. That way the epoxy will lay down and spread out quicker.

How very creative! I have never worked with resin but you took the mystery out of it. I did not realize you could cut it with a table saw as well, wonderful! Table looks superb. So nice to restore a neglected but beautiful wrought iron table. Looks fantastic!
I do a lot of rescues of vintage wood furniture. Just restored an old Lemco 1940s solid oak desk which had been thrown out like rubbish. This dignified desk has now been restored to former glory. I must make a resin accessory for it. Thanks!!

That is an idea that I never thought of when I was trying to make a vintage seventies acrylic divider from my breakfast room. I just ended up putting transparent paint on one of those light diffusers but I think if i were to poor a thin resin one the possibilities with mixing colors and swirling them together could be endless.

heat from the epoxy warping the plastic, since its stuck in the edges and cant push down it would have to rise in the middle. you used less epoxy last time so not as much heat?

Because of the dents underneath there are different times needed for it all to cure and solidify and maybe also slightly expand etc.
But because th top also cures at the same time you get little variations perhaps.
    Well, that's my 2 cents.
The dents in the top will catch a lot dirt and be a pain to clean, i'd do a clear coat over that that will be smooth.

  • woodengamer
    woodengamer Месяц назад

for something like a tabletop resin, how hard is it to do spot repairs on scratches and dings. Can you fairly easily just do a skim coat later and heat it level? I would assume so since you are putting on an 1/8th inch at a time. Thanks again for awesome videos...

I was very inspired by this and I'm kind of leaning into making a sea world gaming table (for miniatures and rpg games).
My problem is, here in Norway resin is hard to come by, except for resin glue.
I'm sure there will be a few thoughts about this, but can I have recommendations on what epoxy to use?
I have a guy in the US that can ship me the good stuff :p
Basic plans is to have islands or small pieces of land here and there as well - ideas on what they should be made of would also be greatly appreciated. - That or just make a complete ocean table.

When applying the black sealant (silicone or whatever you're using) do not use your finger to smooth it out but instead use one of those cheap plastic lighters or the end of a pen that is rounded, this way you have less finishing to do in the end.

    Hello people.
Can I please have some advise?
I need to make a resin kitchen table. It will have some 1 inch wood on the middle of the resin pour (2 inches thick), the rest will be the resin itself. On one side it will be suported by a metal base attached to the wall and on the other side I will have the same resin desing as one single, same width leg.
It doesnt have to be a 45° joint, the top can be just placed on the leg. How would you reccomend to attach the leg to the top of the bar? it is basically resin with resin and some wood in between. I was thinking poket holes maybe, but dont tant to crack the resin with the screws accidentally.
It will be heavy, 2 meter top piece. Thank you for your time, everyone. h

For outdoor use it would have been good to add zinc oxide to the resin or some other UV blocker. The resin is likely to cloud and crack over time.

Have you considered doing anything with tempered glass in epoxy? Not necessarily for turning since I’d assume that to be too dangerous if the glass wasn’t sufficiently hidden by the epoxy but I feel like there might be some interesting light effects with the material. I’d originally considered those prisms from elementary school ,to take advantage of the refracting light, but I don’t think they make them small enough for a window pane. Any-who thanks for your content, I really enjoy your videos!
