Should The World Adopt Finland's Education System?

  • Published on Nov 8, 2015
  • Starting age is 7, days last no longer than 5 hours (which typically start at around 9-9:30 AM), 15 minute breaks in between lessons, segregation by one's ability is illegal, one formal examination in a student's entire primary and secondary school career; yet Finnish students have been proven to be one of the highest scoring group of individuals worldwide in regards to academics, so surely Finland must be doing something right.

    In KURDISTAN Region
School is like a Jail for every students
    - Not allowed to bring cell phones to school.
    - School starts from 8:00 to 12:20 ( I know it's a really short time )
    - We go to school 6 days a week, only Friday is off.
    - 6 subjects in a day
    - We only have rests for 10mins, 50mins during one class, and then another class starts without taking breaks for 45mins.. after that we have 10mins rest, 2 classes and then a break !
    - We are just allowed to wear black or a white coat in winter the other colors are not allowed.
    - most of the schools don't have a good cafeteria, there are just some snacks that you can buy at school.. we don't eat meals at school at all.
    - most of the days we have quiz and tests, also we have soo many exams !
    - don't even talk about homeworks~ students spend there whole day by doing their homeworks and studying.. usually students study more than 7 hours a day ( If they want to have a good grade )
    - our school rules just SUCKS !
    - Students have so many stresses and some of them got suicide because of the f**king school system.
    - most importantly, when we graduate it's soo hard to get a job.

I am offended.Soviet union attacked Finland to make it socialist. Finland heroicly fighted back. Many ppl gave their lives for Finland's independence and freedom and they
made it. Finland kept both off them with high cost.
World economic forum conference in Switzerland Davos ranked Finland the best country 2019.
    For instance:
The best freedom off the Press
    The best freedom off religion
The best freedom off moving on
Peecentualy making most good (Finland has only 5,5 milloin pl)
    Deal with that.
    No use to be jealous!
When have socialist countries achived that?

I'm currently on exchange in America from Finland and I can tell you a few things of what I think are different.
1)In America teachers are considered an authority, they demand respect and are addressed as mr, mrs and miss. In Finland the relationship is different. Most teachers don't expect you to think of them as an authority (well in some sense yes but they don't think themselves as this all knowing power, they're also the student's friend)
2)the attitude with the students is so different. When I started school here it felt like I was back in middle school because some students just don't care.
3)I feel like Finns learn more stuff faster. In my math class here I have not learned anything new because we went through all the material in middle school. It's a college level math class too!
4)I took the SATs and those are stressful. I could not imagine being an actual american because then my score would have mattered.
I can't think of anything else at the moment

Finland has become the new Sweden - the magical land with solutions to America's problems. Today, Sweden is too busy being the world's rape capital, to keep up its busy schedule of virtue signaling. I'm happy to be rid of sanctimonious preaching Sweden, and as far as I'm concerned Finland can't go the same way soon enough.

This is an excellent summary & very astute. One suggestion, however, for future videos is that you maintain graphics on the screen for, say, up to 10 seconds, rather than flashing them on the screen so briefly. It takes awhile (longer than a novice video editor might intuitively assume) for most people to read simple lines of text if they can't already anticipate what they say. For complex infographics, it takes much longer. Adding graphic interludes provides a nice visual variety, as well. At any rate, thanks for the great video.

45 min lessons. 15 min brakes, 30 min brake at lunch time. We go to school at 8.10 or 9.00 (or 10.00, 1-6th grade only, 7 or above very rare) We get out of school at (12.00 rare to 7 or above) or 1.00 or 2.00 or 3.00 or (4.00 rarely)

So inspiring especially when i’ve just finished watching couple of videos blindly praising Finland’s edu system. Finland’s system is typically not suitable for large populated countries like the States, China and Japan not only because the long text-based edu history but also because the number of Students. I think education system is functioning somehow different in these countries.

i’m in 6th grade in the US. my school starts at 7:45, and if you’re not there by 8am sharp you are counted tardy, which gets you a lunch detention. we have 7 classes, each about 50 minutes. we have lunch at 10:50-11:25am and the food is pretty bad. math is blocked, which means it’s 2 periods long. we have 4 minutes in between classes and if we get there after the bell rings we’re tardy and we get lunch detention. for homework i’m not gonna lie it’s not much. about half a hour on average but i know friends that go to different schools who have it way worse. school ends at 4pm

  • An unexamined life

What does education mean when you lack innovation?

    Absolutely nothing
The reason why America is such a rich and successful country is because education takes a backseat to innovation. Which ends up with the final result of A students working for B students while C students run the company and D students dedicate the buildings

I'm in 8th grade and have always lived in Finland, when i was younger we did'nt really have any homework and even though we have a LOT more homework now I know other countries have a LOT more homework, still hate homework especially math and the language finnish that every finnish-swedish person in Finland NEEEDS to learn and I have a hard time learning bc we have a shitty teacher... I don't like school and we start at 8:45 and I sit in the bus for about an hour until I get there so that is usually when I do My homework. But there are some stupid ass leaders in this country too and it's sad to watch your country crumble bc they are selfish...🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🇫🇮

As long as the U.S. keeps allowing the dumbest people from other countries to enter our country illegally it will always lag behind others.
It's probly the number one factor for why U.S. schools are getting worse year over year.
I noticed it's not even part of the conversation because of political correct BS.

School in the US always starve me to death. The health food they choose are poor, like they consider pizza as healthy choice when its not, and remind you my stomach isnt good for dairies. Long 7 hours of school and 25 minute of lunch break is draining my energy. Attending school for 12 years just to know they weren't going to graduate me because of a test score that I was only a point away. So, uh, YOU GO FINLAND. Hopefully america opens to this kind of change for the childrens future.
