thirsty bees

  • Опубликовано: 27 мар 2017
  • Field Lab bees getting a drink. I have 2 pans of water out during the day and they spend a lot of time getting hydrated. Not sure where their hive is...yet. They seem to make a "bee line" WSW of this water source. News Theme by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license ( Artist:

I think the bees like this source because there is something close to the water to perch on. this way they can hydrate but also clean their legs and feet without drowning

WE have a fish pond and have hundreds of bees daily coming around. Like you, not sure where they are coming from but love the fact that they are here. And I have three small fishnets hanging nearby to scoop out struggling bees....

i know how much they enjoy water and having a stable platform for them to land on helps, especially on those windy days.

It's fascinating how they're abdomen moves when they drink water.

Can you tell us what the building rules/codes are there. I read different things and I'm a bit confused. I'm planning a trip down there to look at property.

There are no building codes here - you can live in any kind or size of structure that you want. The only rule is if you live full time on 10 acres or less, you have to have a county approved septic tank or county approved composting toilet. In order to get phone and internet, you have to have a permanent structure of some kind and either grid power or a certain amount of solar already installed. Contact Big Bend Telephone for the specifics.

We put buckets out with a big round sponge floating in it. To many were drowning while drinking. Love Bee's

Some beekeepers I know float corks on the water. Another way for bees to water safely is to fill a shallow dish or jar with both pebbles and water. The larger critters won't be tempted to disturb this bee-watering hole, and the bees won't drown.

Even though I put a life raft out there....I always end up having to rescue a drowning bee. Almost added a "No Lifeguard On Duty" sign for this video.
