fyi - That lip around the intake side of the combustion chamber shouldn't be taken completely out! It actually helps with fuel shear (wet flow). It will improve dry flow slightly, but not enough to make a difference. If it's severe, take some of it out but leave a little bit in there. Exhaust side? yes take that all the way out to the bore.

I would have mentioned the cam button you installed on this engine. Roller cam design will roll forward without it. Cam button will press against your timing chain cover. An extreme engine setup you pushout the timing chain cover with dentation. There are new style timing chain covers that look cooler and tougher built now a days vs the one your using on this engine. Its only minor detail with roller cams.

Drill the ends of the crack to stop it, and weld it up with stainless rod. I'm laughing at the people bitching about Paint on the deck. Lol. Back in the 60's everybody sprayed copper paint on their gaskets. lol Just for the record, a lot of cam manufacturers like lunati, comp etc. Actually dont make some of their cams. A lot of them are made by elgin. You can get them much cheaper. Most pushrods are not made by comp/lunati etc., they are made by CV.

2 bolt main blocks will handle stroker internals all day long. I personally don't like more than 500hp in a 2 bolt block. However, some blocks might handle up to 600-650 hp. It also depends on how well the assembly is balanced.

@caponeauto *can't believe this... how many miles are these american V8 engines good for?! I drive daily a 27 year old car with the same engine and just about original everything else except suspension components wich I done recently! It's a BMW E34 520i M20B20 straight six engine and just the thought of rebuilding it like you casually do with these V8 engines, scares the shit out of me... and many older guys told me this M20B20 engine will last for 800k to 1 million km if I just change the oil and filter regularly at 6000-7000 km at most! Why don't american engine manufacturers build engines like these old BMW M20 engines?!*

Do not know much about Beemers .
I can tell you I daily drive a company truck . 2008 Chevy Silverado 4 point something ( almost 5 l ) V-8 . About 160,000 miles . Can not think of anything that has been done to the engine except oil / and an occasional air filter .
Never any oil added between oil changes . Thinking about replacing the spark plugs , one of these days .
Now , how much money , in today's dollars , did the Beemer engine cost ? Same question for the Silverado ? And how much would a stock engine rebuild cost for each ?
Figure all of that out , before you start casting bad Karma about .

    • Talking Vegetable
      Talking Vegetable 5 месяцев назад

Never use bolts on main caps. Use studs with double nuts and lock washers; and USE ARP PARTS!!!!!!!!!!!! That will be stronger than a 4-bolt main any day. I rev my 393 stroker to 7K all the time with just 2-bolt studs. No problemo.

What if the stock 350 was built and had too much torque. Wouldn't a 383 kinda be overkill on the bottom end? Sure if you want to kill your tires and have a cookout. But is the displacement really worth it? Between a 377, built 350 and a 383, the stock crank should hold its' own with a wicked cam. Assuming the rest of the top end is good. Don't get me wrong, I love the torqued motors. But a 383 seems a bit much. A well built 396 big block seems more practical.

Really enjoy the information you provide Capone, thank you. 2 buddies and I have a Stroker project this summer for his '76 3/4 ton. We will be reviewing your videos much like a sit-down-school is in session setting, so I thank you for that. I personally lean towards the Mopar side of the tracks, wanting to get 500 hp out of my 383 in the 'ol 65 Coronet 440, which is also a next summer project. I was hoping to see you working on more mopar related engines but I guess its just the Chevy's that need constant attention... unless you built them from the beginning. I got a question... If i were to send you a Go-Pro and a head strap would you wear it? It would provide slightly better sound and even compensate for low lighting at times.. free up that other hand as well.

Hi Capone... I have a question for you about internal engine coatings.
There are a number of companies with engine coatings from well known to unknown.
I got looking into it a bit, started with Engine Builder Mag reading many other tutorials staying away from the companies who sell the products so I didn't get a sales pitch.
These coating can be applied by anyone with a powder coating oven, following good cleaning procedures of parts to prep for baking on the coatings.
I'm wondering if you have ever applied these internal coatings on crank bearings, cranks, piston skirts and tops and combustion chambers etc, and what you thought about them..
The YT video I watched was done by Joe Mondello on Tech Line engine coatings.

    Thanks.

The one thing you can count on from Capone is he shoots straight from the hip, no making shit over complicated with fancy terminology, and boils it down to building the engine to spec, and his standards are above the vast majority that comes from experience.
I don't know him , never spoke to him, live in a different country than him, so I'm not a friend saying nice shit to promote him.
I've watched him for two years I think now, and admire the way he builds engines.
If you follow his advice you cannot go wrong and will end up with a fantastic motor.
I've been building sbc's for decades but never built a 383 stroker. I started looking into it a couple years ago for a hot rod I got involved with, and out of all the video's to watch for some insight and guidelines to follow,,, Capone knocks it out of the park with his insight and practical experience.
I built the 383 stroker and it was one of the best engines I have ever put together bar none. They are torque monsters if done right with a long torque curve/band.
A 400 sbc would be a draw or won't catch a 383 stroker in the 1/4 with no adders, just motor.
The 400/406 sbc was my baby. I've built countless times. It was my favorite sbc until I built the 383. Now I have a new favorite, and plan on building as many as I can line up.
They are one of the best combinations for displacement via stroke you can build out of any V8 old or new. The displacement with the pistons.030 over, the stroke and crankshaft modification paired up with heads and intake that will supply it's needs will knock it out of the park everytime.
My hats off to Capone for making another video on the 383 sbc. Thanks man.
    35 Chevy Steve.

+caponeauto Right on, I will tune in for that. The old chevy II, nova , chevelle, malibu were great cars light and fast, you could get a inline 6 cyl or a 396 big block right from the factory and anything in between. +caponeauto Shit man, that's some serious power. What's it in?.
I've got a niche I stick with which is gen 1 sbc's been building them for years. I couldn't believe the amount of stuff being made in the aftermarket industry when I got back into it. I guess I missed out on about 15 years from 1985 to 2000 before returning to my passion. Unreal the changes that have gone on. I admire the way you work. I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it.. I'm a fan
