Ladas are great cars for people who want a car that will run forever and don't have a huge amount of money to keep it on the road.
    Fantastic cars.
But your method of getting into the car could have been better, just get a can of deicer and spray it around the car door this will melt the ice and you can get in the car with ease.

why does spraying water on a car cool it down more? if it is being frozen by ambient temperature, the ice is an insulator, it would help the engine warm up faster, and is therefore completely meaningless to this experiment, most likely actually negating the issue the thermal casing is trying to solve by trapping excess engine heat, rendering it clickbait

    • Jesse Seice

It was just to see if the battery would start the car not to see how fast the engine got warm

    • DecibelAlex
      DecibelAlex Месяц назад

Engine coolant is not a problem if you mix in antifreeze.
But even 100% fully charged batteries might freeze if it's cold enough.

    • J. Chris Beck
      J. Chris Beck Месяц назад

whatever....I have NEVER witnessed a fully charged battery to freeze in any conditions in my lifetime
(56 years, and temps down to -20 degrees F.), but I have seen several dead ones crack their casings from being frozen in the same timeframe. So draw your own conclusions....I speak from actual observations.

Sorts of cars in Pripyat around 1986 during Chernobyl. I would travel there though. Would be fun but dangerous, ultimate urbex. I grew up just 25 miles from Three Mile Island, which in 1979, if it had gone full Chernobyl, I'd not be posting this... Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, much of that would of been a dead zone like Pripyat and Chernobyl. Which goes into Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.

No electronic ignition... Try that on a modern car. Lada may be basic but that's why it keeps running under such extreme conditions. The impressive thing is the water cooled system must have been almost all antifreeze not to have been solid and breaking the cylinder head.

  • thetimekillerx

There is similar product here in Finland - but it costs 10x more. These are generally under 1000 roubles according to their site i.e 10-15€, while finnish counterpart is around 120€.
Having cheap rides in which new battery is actually an investment and still wanting to drive short distances in winter I would need one.
Gonna definetly buy one just for try if they have them in retail stores or something in Saint Petersburg on near Finnish border. Knowing Russian post services (if they're still the same), online ordering isn't much of option.
Ofcource the cheapest and foolproof way would be just to grab the battery with you inside your home and preferably put in on charger for a while atleast I'm extremely lazy and don't want to do that.
What comes to car itself, I actually don't know what car wouldn't start in winter as long as the battery is fine, so nothing Lada-magic there guys. Surely not using block heater, not to mention driving right away or revving will shorten lifetime of engine and is simply more or less foolish but driving cars that costs few hundreds and are going to be sold anyway, which have usually 300-600k km on odometer I just don't care personally.
Last winter drove at least few dozen of different cars, mostly those crappy ones, mostly old Japanese and German cars and every single one of them started fine as long as battery was alive. Or well, what you consider crappy, great quality cars of their time and actually still those beat in almost every way new "ordinary" cars of soccer moms.
Oh and there was tons of comments that no link - it's seen briefly on video. And probably theres no link in translated version because the site is only in Russian.
