+Gordon Lawrence as far as I know, coal and petroolium ate not considered to be minerals of themselves. Gems or mineral acumulites also have a broad classification, since both perals and Amber are not the same make up as these others. To dismiss all information as unbelievable due to a few inaccuracies is shortsighted at best. All the better for A person without sufficient background to delve deeper to dicsern truth from innacuracies,. At least then potential for learning something rxiste. ASaying it's all untrue because some of it isn't correct won't give any the desire to look further at all. Better had you pionyed out what is and isn't accurate, there too learning something new would be present. That's what we want right. Educating a huge hey mind, insillinh scientific curiosity, I'm eating yhedesite to question everything. Otherwise, look around, yeah that part of human nature that won't try stretching it's capacity without a tangeable reward reigns supreame, and let's ignorece hold sway. I'm not saying your wrong here, I'm saying, you could of done more for your piont, and the ignorant, that just pionted to what's wrong and basically going " ha ha, you're wrong". Anybody can do that......

All minerals are rocks but all rocks are not minerals. Rocks are composed from minerals or a single mineral. Ice has several forms now considered as mineral. Also methane hydrate/methane ice meets the definition of mineral owing to its solid state under deep ocean pressure. Also crystals are rocks but not all rocks are crystals. Fossils MAY be mineral but its paleological status ihas nothing to do with its rock-type( petrological status)

    • Elton Jones
Elton Jones 2 месяца назад +1

Actually coal is a rock not a mineral, Oil is a mixture-- neither rock nor mineral. Some substances were grandfathered in, else re- classified as mineraloids e.g Opal

What a load of inaccurate, alarmist tosh and pseudo-science!
I have a lot of these minerals in my collection, as well as some that I consider more dangerous (such as realgar and orpiment - both of them are arsenic sulphides). I've got no unusual health problems and I've been around them for decades in some cases!
Breathing in any type of dust over long periods will give you lung diseases of various types. Your number one mineral isn't actually toxic, it's the reaction of the body to breathing in particles of it that's the problem (you can get a similar reaction if you breathe in particles of glass fibre). This is why smoke inhalation is dangerous. It's not just because of toxic compounds in the smoke, but also the particles in the smoke that clog up the lungs.
Also "pyrite is silvery....."? Pyrite is called fools gold for a reason, it's not silvery!
Galena has lead as its main component? I'd never have guessed since it's lead sulphide! Most of the effects described are the effects of lead ingestion not galena.
"Fluoride is a soluble mineral that's a compound of Fluorspar....."? Please do your research before making stupid statements like this! Fluoride is not a mineral, or even a compound, and it can't exist on its own. Fluorides are compounds (usually of various metals) that contain fluorine ions. In this case, fluorspar is calcium fluoride. Also mining of fluorspar is harmless: It's the uses and processing of it that cause problems when the fluorine is released.
Cinnabar is a toxic mineral but not the most toxic. Also you can't get methyl and dimethyl mercury from the oxidation of cinnabar. These are organic compounds of mercury formed when certain types of bacteria react with mercury in soil, plants or water.
Many of the effects you describe in this video are the effects of processing the mineral or of one, or more, of the elements in it. This doesn't mean the mineral is toxic!

Speaking as someone who knows something about rocks. minerals, and geology I have to say that this video is very poor. The video quality is bad often showing images which have nothing to do with the minerals. In many cases the minerals they list only become dangerous when ground into a powder or fiber and inhaled. Miners of these minerals will be exposed to such dusts. But who watching this video is going to grind up rock and inhale the dust?? In other cases the minerals they mention are pretty rare and most people will never see them let alone touch them, so how dangerous are those? Which are dangerous to ordinary people who might handle them? Here's the list:
    10. Pyrite, no, but don't throw it in a fire.9. Feldspar, no; it is part of granite which is used for many things like counter tops and cutting boards for your kitchen.
    8. Hydroxyapatite, no; your bones are mostly made of Hydroxyapatite.7. Galena, yes. Dangerous. Contains lead. If you handle it wash your hands. Fortunately rare.6. Fluorspar; no; you can handle it but don't eat it. In the video "flourosis" is speld bad. It shood be "fluorosis".5. Quartz; not dangerous unless you hit someone with a big chunk of it. Its the primary component of most beach sand and glass.4. Cinnabar; very toxic! Contains mercury. I wouldn't even touch this stuff. Fortunately rare.3. Phenakite or phenacite, contains toxic beryllium. Crystals are sometimes used in jewelry, but I wouldn't wear it. Don't eat it!2. Erionite; dangerous. Makes fine fibers which float on the air and get into your lungs. Rare.1. Crocidolite; most dangerous form of asbestos. Makes fibers which can get into your lungs. Rare, fortunately.
So, 6 of the above are safe to handle as long as you are not eating them, grinding them to dust, etc.
Note that the above are minerals, ie almost pure chemicals. "Rocks" are various minerals mixed together, e.g. granite is a rock which contains the mineral feldspar.
Probably the most dangerous rock (as opposed to mineral) is coal. Why? Because we burn zillions of tons of coal each year, and a great deal of it is not burned but instead goes up the stack as particulates of nasty chemicals which are every bit as dangerous as cigarette smoke. Millions of people die prematurely each year due to the burning of coal and, to a lesser extent, oil, gasoline, and natural gas. Buring coal also releases mercury into the air.

Silicosis and other diseases like it are caused by particles irritating and damaging the lining and tissue of the lungs...any fine dust will cause a similar disease over time..cotton fibers, dust from grain processing will do the same thing over time.
Quartz in any state is basically inert in your body,.short of bashed over the head with a lump of it you're 99.999999% safe around it. Unless you spend YEARS breathing in fine particulates containing quartz. which irritates and inflames the lining and tissue of your lungs in a response to the jagged edges of the crystal damaging tissues.

Tons of iron pyrite in my driveway gravel. Send friend's kids out to find "gold" now and then. Guess not anymore. There is a town nearby me named Galina for obvious reasons as is Leadville Colorado and countless others. People living in these communities live in what qualifies as a EPA Superfund site from ground water leaching? Ottawa Illinois used to have a company called "Luminous Dial" that painted the numbers on glow in the dark clock faces in the 60's using radium. The workers would bring the paint home and paint their kids teeth for Halloween and such. Ottawa is one of the most radioactive cities in Illinois. YouBoob has a video about it. I used to live there..

The old crystal sets have a galena crystal. Most natural minerals are not poisonous except earing them or breathing dust. i use cinnibar for artist paint..wash your hands. Don't make rock soup unless you use a safe rock. The beautiful tanzanite is is a zeolite. Quartz is harmless unless you make dust out of it and breathe it like in a rock crusher.......it is used in watch crystals and is generally very safe. You forgot uraninite which is real radioactive and beautiful.....dangerous and do not make jewelry out of it...also realgar and opriment that are compounds of arsenic ...don't try to grind them for art paint as did medieval and rennaisance artists....you could poison yourself! And if you are crazy enough to use them for art paint you'll have to grind and mull them yourself. ..do it outdoors with mask and gloves and bury the mull and tools and brushes and whatever you use..throw away your mask gloves and clothes and bathe in strong soap and wash hair also...in other words do not try to make art paint of realgar or opriment like the old masters. Use cadmium yellow or a titanium based yellow but you will not get irridescent opaque permanent brilliant brilliant yellows that jump at you. That is why the old masters used arsenic minerals. And if you are crazy enough to want arsenic paint you must well varnish your uncompleted painting so that no one can get exposed. You can buy cinnabar paint .real vermillion but I know of no art supplier that makes the ancient arsenic paints. And if you are a gardener do not use lead arsenate or paris green as a bug killer..real toxic insecticide. that they use to use in banana plantations..FYI.

Everyone’s complaining about these conditions because they seem unreal. These conditions mentioned are indeed real and you can easily find them if you actually did research instead of whining in a comment section as if your comment will change anything. Meanwhile I don’t see any sources for everyone that says these aren’t harmful in the ways she mentioned. Most of these commenters are saying “that’s not deadly because it’s in everything and it never hurts anyone” yet they ignore the fact that people have suffered from the conditions mentioned and that they’re only dangerous in specific ways. The fact they reject so much information, even if it’s poorly given, is just a display of every haters ignorance. She did her research, why don’t you do yours.
