I play all the low brass instruments, primarily the tuba, but I was curious as to how the compensating valve works. Could someone please explain?

    • FatYeet202
      FatYeet202 10 months ago

Gabe Welch compensating horns have extra tubing in the 4th valve that makes the lower register _waayyy_ more easily in tune (go down do a low d on a noncompensating and you’ll understand) and the fourth valve on compensating horns tends to be on the side to be played with the pointer finger of the other hand instead of the pinky which is _really_ nice.

@The Countryside Road I beg to differ... Player only plays a small apart in how the sound is produced. You can have 2 instruments side by side, 2 different players and there will be 4 different sounds. Some might suit one instrument, some may suit another but probably get a similar sound.

Bruh this isn’t even close to the range the euphonium usually plays at.

    • FatYeet202
      FatYeet202 Year ago +1

Range is all about the mixture of support, air speed, and lip placement, ive been playing for less than a year and i can play way higher than I reasonably should be able to, you just have to practice range a lot, one thing that i found very helpful was to try and play my easy music or easier parts of music an octave up, and also to NEVER wuss out on air

Nintendude44 & CubsFan17 What's your highest note? Mine is around f or g above staff.

    • Nintendude44 & CubsFan17
      Nintendude44 & CubsFan17 2 years ago +1

Kaito Kid It just takes practice. I play trombone and I couldn’t hit a single high note, but then I started practicing them and now I can play them easily. Even if you don’t have your instrument, you can just practice tightening your lips and buzzing.

Absolutely beautiful! You provide such magnificent arrangements for such a wide variety of instruments. I wish all the Concert Band and Choral Members a joyous holiday season. You are a true national treasure, for which all should be grateful. I look forward to seeing you in person on March 9 at your concert in Tampa Florida.

The Almighty Plushtrap if you are having a hard time with high notes sort of put your upper lip over you bottom(not too much though.) Also remember to relax you shoulders and use your gut bit your chest, this will relax your neck allowing more air flow.
