Classism that coincidentally lines up with racial divisions. Racism in the United States is purely fueled by wealth inequality and poverty. People on both sides will always pick the easiest "solution", whether that means calling black people monkeys and throwing them all in prison, or giving up on society and rioting. Everyone needs to stop blaming generalised groups for their problems and encouraging a cycle of hatred between "whites and blacks" or whichever groups are involved. Calling everyone a gangbanger or a racist doesn't work. I can help people without getting constantly insulted and blamed for a problem I had zero involvement in. If you want people to get involved, you can't make them the enemy, because they wont wanna become your ally.I will never support hands-off policing or the non-enforcement of laws. I will defend social support systems and much more lenient sentencing for convicted criminals. Sending people to cramped prisons doesn't work, but letting them get away with anything wont work either. People need to be stopped when they do wrong, and put onto a path towards doing better. We don't need to give out blanket reparations cheques to all black people for slavery, we need to find those in need, and provide them with the proper services to get out of poverty.

Thank you for this. I never understood 'redlining'. You explained it really well. Also, I had no idea about the predatory practices when it came to housing in that era. Jeez, I understand why black people are so frustrated now. All I ever knew about were things like affirmative action and thought it was a step in the right direction. But it wasn't nearly enough. We should be doing more to make this shit right. Fuck, I do not like my people right now.

Thanks. I've studied this issue and particular case much and it's been no secret for many decades about Baltimore as the posterchild of systemic abuse. Even how the freeways were built segregated neighborhoods (which led Portland, Oregon to stop building a similar freeway system, even abandoning partially built sections). I mentioned that because it's one of the very few things you left out, by which I mean you did great! covering a simple issue with many complex parts and help get that message out. I still get so frustrated with "why don't they just move?" from people as it's an equally simple answer but complex to explain, especially if they have no experience processing more than one cause per effect. "Systemic" itself as a concept needs to be much more broadly understood.

Moral of the story don’t run away from the police officers, especially if you are doing something wrong and Illegal. It’s a sure fire tell that you are doing something illegal. Also how much government spending goes into Baltimore, much and it makes no difference to the oppression narrative. There’s your three acres and an ass, and then some, this is the result of the welfare states free gives. They ruin families and neighborhoods. Why the hell can’t they repair and remove the fucking led paint? Likely rent controls. None of that ffa shite is the law today. African schools did better than other white schools in the south before forced busing was pushed by dc and New York elitist. All hail Thomas Sowell.

Indeed, you're right that many black neighborhoods in the US, including Baltimore (i visited the latter four times for Bronycon, these last few years and recently) are extremely poor and ill because of historical racism and that yes, racism still exists and those who say or do racist shit should be shamed. However, I'm not too fond of SJWs, especially those of the antifa types who call people who are clearly not racists, racists.
I will never side with any kind of extremists.

Mt favorite part of this whole story was when ray lewis, a man who killed 3 people in 2000, released a video denouncing the "rioters," for their use of "violence." The so called rioters killed exactly 0 people. That means that ol' ray ray is single handedly responsible for more murders than all the supposedly violent rioters combined.

Wow, I was in Baltimore towards the end of this. My mom grew up in Silver Spring, MD which is a suburb of Baltimore and my brother happened to move there for a residency at UMM, met a nurse, fell in love, and started a life there. My brother got married May 3 of that year. They have some photos of him and his wife in a garden with national guard surrounding them because they hadn't been pulled out yet. But for the week prior to the wedding things were pretty much fine, I mean I'm not trying to pretend like I was in the thick of the riots, or whatever, we were staying in an area that was more like in the inner harbor area, certainly not the "ghetto" but there was the Friday night May 2 where a group of protestors walked through as we were leaving a restaurant and walking back toward our hotel the group walked down the street chanting something. It wasn't scary or anything, I think that protest was done really well actually, they had cars driving slowly at the front of it and they slowed down to allow us to get across the street (I had my kids who were pretty small at the time, so I was thankful because it was about bedtime and if we had been trapped on the other side I wouldn't have felt right walking through a protest march) my daughter was 6 and thought it was some kind of party she wanted to chant and march with them, my son was 4 and didn't really know what was going on, but it's one of those memories that will stick with me, because in the end, this was about a man, a real human person with a family who died due to being arrested by 6 police officers for what? Being black. Being out in his own neighborhood. What if that was my brother or someone in my family? What if that was me? What if I wasn't white and my family wasn't what I think of as middle class but actually isn't near wealthy enough to be actual middle class? What if, what if, what if?

Let’s not forget about infiltration: cia, fbi, and the like have a history of infiltrating leftist orgs to destabilizing them, protest marches and destroying properties to make leftists seem violent and dangerous, etc, etc. to add another layer into the multi-layered project of destroying all non-whites, non-binary, or anyone who challenges their delusions of supremacy.

The RUclip comment section is valuable: you can really see what people are truly like, and it's important because you hardly see racism irl, but online, under the cover of anonymity, you realise how horribly racist so many people are. It's disgusting and awful to read such things, yes, but at the same time, you get to see the reality.

If the black people had been told that the cops would be prosecuted and had any confidence that they would receive punishment for killing Freddie Gray, I don't think the riots would have happened. But black people keep being killed by cops with impunity - why are people surprised that black people are furious about this?

In my school, we actually learned about the history of injustices in America, including redlining. It definitely was a mostly left leaning school, but I always thought that this sort of information was common knowledge. It’s kinda horrifying to learn that it really isn’t. i actually agree with most things that you have said, but language policing would not help. legislation over 70 years ago was not made buy some altright nobody who loves hitler , if i'm not mistaken it was a democrat who wrote it all. we need serious reform , but being thought police isn't serious reform. What we need to do is try to get as many people as possible out of generational poverty, how are we going to do that is another question entirely.

As someone from Philadelphia, I find it absurd people freaked out so much about the reaction to Freddie Gray's murder.
The Phillies won the world series, we tore half the damn city down, there were titties on broadcast television, and America doesn't bat an eye--we just greased the lightpolls next year...
A pig kills a guy, they break a few windows and burn down two buildings, and America freaks the fuck out....
Also it's not just baltimore, we have lead based paint all over philly... Asbestos too.... Especially in public schools...
