    i dont even think you could call that salt at all. salt is sodium chloride, end of story. even natural salt is mostly sodium chloride with possibly minor impurities. this is not salt, its a granulated compound. that is literally the best thing i can come up with. its only a type of salt in name only.

    Why wouldn’t you use the crucible to begin with? We have seen in other videos this can melt steel bars let alone a flimsy cup

    You can't "melt" magnesium sulphate. It decomposes into magnesia and sulphur trioxide at 1397K. MgSO4 -> MgO + SO3.

    what you have there is magnesium sulfate heptahydrate.
    try removing the water content first.
    I know its in a blast furnace, but maybe the heptahydrate is affecting the product when exposed to excessively high temperatures.
