Hong Kong’s Mafia-Like “Triads” Are Terrifying Pro-Democracy Protesters

  • China’s Ministry of National Defense reminded Hong Kong residents Wednesday that the People’s Liberation Army could mobilize to “maintain social order” at the request of the island's government.
The statement serves as a warning to protesters who defaced China’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong on Sunday, at the end of yet another mass march against an extradition bill that could allow the Communist Party to undermine the island's independent judiciary.
China’s patience with protestors is wearing thin: The foreign ministry blamed the U.S. for meddling in Hong Kong, and CCTV, the government-run broadcaster, spent nearly a third of its Monday-evening broadcast admonishing the “radical demonstrators” who vandalized the liaison office.
Nowhere did their primetime broadcast mention a group of around 100 thugs who stormed a subway station in Yuen Long, assaulting people with wooden sticks and iron signs as they returned home from the protests downtown. At least 45 people were injured in the attacks.

“The train was still here and not moving, so we were stuck inside,” Tommy Tse, a protestor and witness to the violence, told VICE News. “Those white-shirt, violent people were attacking the people in the train. Most of the people in the train were just regular residents, including some elderly and women.”

The Triads are a lot like the Aryan Brotherhood, except they are more organized and have their roots in the opposition to the Manchu takeover of China, their name means a trinity. One of the most notorious gangs in HK was the 14K. They have a highly ritualized entry process and like the Yakuza have elaborate tatoos that identify their membership and rank. They hung out in Kowloon City which was a "part of China" and not under British control, until they decided they'd had enough of that and went in after them. I was warned never to go into KC. However, they're so organized that they were able to survive efforts to completely suppress them. It's extremely unlikely that the commies couldn't wipe them out so their continued existence is because they serve a purpose, one of which is what they're doing to the protesters. Bear in mind that the communists like all successful revolutions, were originally a secret society themselves and know how they work and they always caught infiltrators so they could deal with the likes of the 14K. Was born and grew up in HK, moved away a long time ago, served in the 12th SF and been a PI. Had contact with the ABs while doing criminal defense work, the similarities are there but don't for one second believe the Triads aren't tolerated for a clear purpose, in this case it's to do the dirty work on the protesters and make it look like there's more opposition to the protests than there really is. Admire the courage of the protesters and understand their cause but have a lot of concern about what the commies might do. Some people might not like the use of the term "commies" but I used to see their propaganda back in the day and what's going on now brings back memories of what they said then, which was a lot of pretty nasty threats. Some people can forget the past but it can't be changed.

    *CHINA'S GOVERNMENT IS A DEMOCRACY*

Let’s look at the definition of democracy:

Democracy is a political system that allows the citizens to participate in political decision‐making, or to elect representatives to government bodies. (Oxford Dictionary)

Here’s how democracy works in China:

China’s citizens vote for their representatives at the village level. Then these representatives vote for the next level from among them. And that process continues to the level of National People’s Congress.

That’s democracy. It may not look the same as the US version of democracy, but it is democracy none the less. And it has an advantage compared to the US version of democracy: most voters know the candidates personally, at all levels of voting.

The candidates who compete at village level are known personally to the villagers who vote. Then, the elected village committee members know who they are voting to the next level because they have been working together in the village committee. And this process goes on all the way to the national level elections.
In Hong Kong, the elected Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam will able to vote for next level (after full return of HK to China) for People's Congresses and the next level the People's Congresses will elect up to the National People's Congress.

Since the voters know all candidates at each level of voting, they get to choose the best candidates all the way to the national level.

The US version is different. Most voters do not know the candidates personally. Voters only know the candidates from afar. So those who can campaign well wins, even though they may not be the best for the job.

The other difference is that China’s version of democracy gets everyone to work together as a team. There is no opposition. The US version, on the other hand, splits the elected candidates into two teams who spend a lot of time fighting each other, that they have less time to get something done.

Mobs should have been sent to US. US police will exterminate them like rats for petty crime. LA 92 Riot is one good example.
Ransacking government buildings, disrupt public services, beating up Policemen, destroying law and order are serious crime in Western countries.
For the same token, Britain police had killed many mobs when they came out to protest during the colonial days.
China & HK government are too soft on them.!
