They've ruined this site... Everything is just, cluttered... Random thumbnail pictures everywhere (Like you want to work through that lot to find your TV show).. It looks like something a windows 8 developer would come up with.. The TV guide is also terrible, and not as easy to navigate now.. 'Watch Live' link is totally hidden. You need to click TV guide to find it and a search on site brings up nothing... It's just a mess, can you change it back please? Or can I develop a better site for you?

Easy to make a number 1 brand when you FORCE customers to give you money. :p

  • I Like Bananas Sometimes

Thank you BBC. By creating the iPlayer you've made it possible for me to cancel my TV license (£145 a year saved) and instead legally watch your programs in near HD by streaming them after broadcast through my PC onto my TV for free.

Would help if it held more content and for longer, never use it on a computer. Tablet or phone and tv sometimes. Slow to load on tv. As we pay a licence fee why cant old series like dr who blakes 7 not be on their, make it relevant not just about teens. Less cop and hospitals more musketeers and merlin. Bbc is excellent in the main but lacking in sci fy and fantasy

  • mintlou

I never ever use iPlayer on my computer. I never actively seek to watch something on iPlayer unless I've actually missed it on the TV. Therefore I won't ever be seeing web exclusive content, which I think will be the case for many people. Just feels like you are narrowing your audience.

    • I Like Bananas Sometimes
I Like Bananas Sometimes 6 years ago

@mintlou I only use the iPlayer to watch TV because as long as I don't watch the programs as they are been broadcast I'm not legally obliged to buy a TV license.

But you're not getting the public's support in removing BBC Three from the telly, how about instead you decrease the unreasonably high wages the directors get to increase the budget?

    • GoGamingHD
      GoGamingHD Month ago

BBC Three had been moved online as an online only service on 16th February 2016, they didn't move BBC Four online due to the fact it had a high target audience.

    • Eddie Bleakley
Eddie Bleakley 6 years ago +1

@TheSibaWho their shows are international, they count the international views but for some reason we can't see the content in as many places. that is pretty one sided. international viewers are giving viewership to their shows and we get no thanks.

    • Joseph Teller
Joseph Teller 6 years ago +1

Yes, BUT logic says that if you measure success by viewership, anything that reduces that viewership technologically reduces your success.
Additionally they are failing in the process to achieve their own stated 'Vision & Goals' statement as per their charter (see Below Quote):
      "Our mission
To enrich people's lives with programmes and services that inform, educate and entertain.
      Our vision
To be the most creative organisation in the world.
      Our values
Trust is the foundation of the BBC: we are independent, impartial and honest.
Audiences are at the heart of everything we do.
We take pride in delivering quality and value for money.
Creativity is the lifeblood of our organisation.
We respect each other and celebrate our diversity so that everyone can give their best.
We are one BBC: great things happen when we work together."

You done well with creating iPlayer, but they is only one problem I have with it, the problem is it keeps buffering every second even on Fabre optic broadband.
It is a shame that AudiGo, Doctor Who: World in Time and now BBC THREE. The BBC is really going down the pan, very soon they won't be any BBC if they going to keep on cancelling Channels etc. everything was ok until the BBC was stupid enough to sell their Television Studio that was bad to make that decision.

    • I Like Bananas Sometimes
I Like Bananas Sometimes 6 years ago

@DWTAG93 I thought AudioGo was back in business?
Yeah, and the BBC where really stupid selling up their two of their biggest but soon to be no longer fit for purpose TV studios (Television Centre and Oxford Road Manchester) and replacing them with new state of the art facilities. I mean who ever heard of a TV and radio broadcaster spending money on studio facilities? What a waste of money LOL

Yes, BBC isn't axing BBCthree. But they might as well. I mean, iPlayer often buffers, but what's it going to be like when there's a new episode of Family Guy, or Russell Howard's Good News?
BBCthree needs to remain as a TV channel. #SaveBBC3

Seeing the comments, and wondering if the BBC takes on board idea's like it claims to... i can't help but agree in saying the brand and design of it all, is brilliant and reliable. The service is clever and updating and improving each facet that is mentioned in this video is a great idea. BUT to truly continue competing and keep its crown perhaps centralising the features onto one platform for mobile users and then increasing the features of the desktop users should be the first thing to do. Next would be following 4OD in showing a collection of the most popular past texts and programming, classics will always have interest. However I disagree with the idea of reducing features for desktops as there will always be a platform for people who need laptops MacBooks or whatever to use complex work related software or game. Even if the uptake is ever reducing. Features are something that should really just improved and streamlined carefully, not made sparse.

So, does that mean 1 app rather than bbc media player, iPlayer and the radio player? because that would be much cooler than having a crateload of apps just for one service, right?
Will it still be supported by Adobe Air? Enquiring minds want to know. Nice video, but it tells me nothing. Content is secondary!!

    • bigturnip

@DarthJedi2005remixes Tablets narrowly outsold laptops in 2013, it is expected they will outsell desktops and laptops combined by the end of 2015, but even then it will take a few years for them to overtake in the installed user base figure. It's all very well being forward looking, but we are probably about 4 or 5 years away from the desktop/laptop being in the minority.
Even the BBC's own usage statistics show people accessing iPlayer from desktops/laptops easily outnumber tablets, mobiles and all other mobile devices combined.
Surely for a non-commercial company like the BBC they should be keeping up with the trends of their users, not setting the trends. I can understand a commercial company with interests in the mobile device market taking this step, but not a non-commercial corporation funded by the tax payer.

    • DarthJedi2005remixes
      DarthJedi2005remixes 6 years ago

Because - sadly - desktop is dying from home use. People aren't buying traditional laptops and home PCs in anything like the numbers they have done in the past, tablet sales have all but overtaken them. I personally much prefer desktops to tablets, and evidently you do too, but unfortunately people like us are vastly outnumbered.
