I had one of these when I was a kid. Never really knew the name of it.
This was good but you forgot, R E T R O B R I T E
u can use WD-40 in rusty? I use it here, but idk if vinegar are better.
This RUclip channel is he best. It’s like “what’s inside,” but without hitting everything with an axe. So you get to see the inside of thing without the things being completely demolished. SO YOU ACTUALLY GET TO SEE WHATS INSIDE.
I had that back in the day. LOL
I have that toy. Used to love it, but the timer was annoying.
I HAD THIS WHEN I WAS LITTLE!!
2:02 that satisfying click of a motor powering up for the first time in a long time
A better way to polish contacts is to rub it with a standard pink eraser.
Thnx David! Nice vid ;-)
5:20 To avoid a dry joint, never blow on a solder joint...let it cool on it's own.
I had a dream that was mechanically inclined. If you appear as a child and grub for coins at libraries we need to talk.
Just 3D print the gear :p
Holy shit! How did I forget that I had this?!
I'd be really interested to see this being connected to an arduino or raspberry pi so you can operate it remotely.
you watch Doctor who final another whovian
Being born in '71, I was more than familiar with the Armatron. This was one of my all-time favorite toys when I was a kid. I went through more batteries in this device than any other I can remember... except for perhaps the Game Gear, and maybe my Merlin.
This was such a blast to watch! When I was about 10 my best friend and I completely disassembled one of these and thought we were engineering experts... until we couldn't put it back together. We still joke about the resulting 'Bag 'o Parts' I hid under my bed for fear that my parents would find out we destroyed my brand new toy.
I still have that in my closetI got it back out and it works
i have one of these that my dad picked up from a yard sale forever ago for like 5 bucks or something and it worked perfectly for a long time then one of the gears broke and i gotta figure how to fix it at some point but it's crazy stumbling on a video with one of these things cause i didn't even think to look it up or anything also been watching your vids like all afternoon so definitely a trip to see
Damn! I got one of those in my basement in the box with all the accessories!
maybe this video will help you out?ruclip.com/video/iPz76e_JosQ/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE.html
My mate Vince
What you need to do is buy a cheap 3D printer to print those pesky parts that sometimes are missing, better yet build a decent one with cheap parts. That's a project on itself.
I have one of these. Wow
Another video of something unfinished.
2 years later and no update video.
Nice video. But I wonder what that movie scene that he showed after the star wars one was. I think the actor was James veitch
Does the Morse code in the intro translate to anything?
Why o why did you show that god awful remaster of the sarlacc ?
3d print the gear bro. Lmk dimensions i got you
I had one in the 80's.
this dude has the most annoying "speak from his butt" nasal voice
Why not 3d print a new gear?
the claw is known as the end effector
Cast a gear!! JB weld or like Stefan used... Vinegar is the best for corroded contacts... Steel wool works great for rust removal... I use old tooth brushes to get into fins and tight corners.... You can heat them and bend them into any shape you want!
I am surprised you didn't use some white lithium grease on the gears........
I remember having one of those when I was real little. Think it broke in the same way as well.
i wana see him pc
Don't let Howard from Big Bang Theory see this robotic arm. LOL
I would have imagined you could take one of the existing gears, assuming they're all basically the same, and made a mold to create a new one.
Battery acid an objects worst fate
I really loved this thing when I was a kid.
2:38 DOCTOR WHO REFRINCE I LOVE IT
Rather than printing, you ought to try doing an epoxy resin mold of some sort
You can’t imagine how much anxiety you gave me when you started taking every little gear and lever out of that thing...
damn this bring back memories :(
Oh the flashbacks of this wonderful creation! I remember it like it was the best thing I saved up my chore money to buy it and was not disappointed!Unfortunately, I was the kind of kid that was curious and dismantled mine and never could reassemble it.Thanks for the jaunt back to my own childhood!
Took it all apart and didn't bother re-greasing the gears?
I have one Armatron until today, and working perfectly. I I was a careful (and boring) child with my toys, and the Armatron is in my parents' house even with the whole box still! It's very cool to see him having an attention here, to this day I consider it a great match!
I had one of these
Omg I remember those. Loved mine
I had 1 of these I loved it my mum when we moved she through out a lowed of stuff and my armatrone was thrown I was devastated
One of the best toys ever.
When I was little I found a perfect condition one of these thrown away I picked it it and now it’s on my shelf of cool vintage things 😂
I'm wondering if you can make molds of these small parts (the gear that's missing) from the other gears, and use a resin to make a copy. Same with your missing keys on your keyboards. Now, I know you want all original, but it would come in handy for momentary purposes.
I love the defender sound on your intro.
I'm sure you can buy plastic gear replacement cheap on chainese online shops example aliexpress. I found a lot of gears there sim to fit. Ofcore dimensions must be checked but there are a lot of them. You can also find a loot of gears on remote contreoled cars shops online like towerhobbies.
It looks the same like the Tommy version only it's a other brand.
I ACTUALLY HAVE ONE OF THESE!!!
I got one of these from a consignment sale. And It was given away when I got older this was in 2007 around when I got it.
very cool we had one of these when I was a kid, Id love one of these.... I could have sworn there were also little barrels....
On the off chance that you see this comment, the next time your remove rust from metal surfaces (like the joysticks themselves) you can totally just wipe aluminum foil along the surface with water or soapy water as a lubricant. It does an amazing job, did my whole motorcycle that way, now rust free :)
I have a working wone!!!
I love your restoration videos!!
I had this toy, and I loved it.
just play the video on reverse
We all love Doctor Who
itz a fucking Star Wars reference!
Me and my friend were trying to get an old Hess by plane to work once we open the battery compartment it was horrifying how much corrosion there was we had to get a screwdriver and some tinfoil because neither one of us know how the hell do I get all the corrosion off so it worked enough to get it to work
You can buy that gear on eBay
"A thousand taams"
I want one
at 2:29 I hate that beak!
The patent drawings are avaliable and it seems like it would be too complex and time wasting for average person to fix. It's great that there are people that are into things that others think are silly or useless because it keeps history alive.
I got one like new in the box for $4. It took 1 minute to fix. I just moved the arm around with it off hoping I wouldn't make it worse. The forced movement and clicking was a bit unnerving!) It realigned everything and works fine now.
Still waiting for that follow up.
Here is a two part article on getting your Atari Home Computer to control the Armitron:www.retrobits.net/atari/armyouratari1.shtmlwww.retrobits.net/atari/armyouratari2.shtml
Could you please do a video on history of Apple mice
i want to see the repair video of this, i know you have the gears now thanks to a subscriber!! looking foward to see this toy working again!!
What’s the name of the song he uses
I think someone sold you their parts robot arm....
The reason the small pinions break is that they are pressed on the shaft, putting the plastic in tension. over time, this tension causes the plastic to part in a narrow spot between teeth. The best way to fix this is to replace the gear with a brass one. I specifically keep a huge inventory of such gears for this purpose, scrounged from old toys, etc. (Others will most likely fail. Before they do, you can make molds and cast new ones from epoxy. 3D printing usually does not work well on such fine structures which are under high stress, even for bulk material. You could 3D print molds or a master from which you make a mold.
Cant u just copy the gear in resin ?
The Civil Air Patrol uses something similar for the Cadets to use as part of our STEM program. It's also a nice attention getter when we're doing recruiting stuff.
I hope you read this comment but hobby rc car shops sale pinion gears that might work
my friend had one of these... I was SO jealous :)
Mine doubled as the M.A.S.S. Device for my G.I. Joes
My older brother had one!! I remember playing with it and being surprised at how easy and intuitive it felt to control.
Wow , I got this thing, I got it 5 or 4 years ago , pretty sure it's vertical stick is broke but still...
Oh man, I had one of these as a kid.
Did you ever get the replacement parts in and fix it 100%? Would love a follow up video
had no money for this in 80s
