  • Pachinko is Japan's biggest game. And yet many people overseas have never even heard of it.
► WHERE we played: Ebisu Cafe in Takayama! bit.ly/ebistakayama
Many thanks to Ebisu Cafe for sponsoring this video; we’d long wanted to get into a Pachinko parlor to film, and we had a great time uncovering the games history and letting Natsuki loose on the machines.
    ► Learn more about Pachinko:

NOTE: Winning is not guaranteed. (Natsuki is genuinely experienced. And a lucky boy).

By 1994, the pachinko market in Japan was valued at ¥30 trillion (nearly $300 billion).[1] As of 2015, Japan's pachinko market generates more gambling revenue than that of Las Vegas, Macau and Singapore combined.[2]

Pachinko is the reason pinball tables say "Not a gambling device" As they are descendants of the game.

    • stevepxs
      stevepxs 5 hours ago

Angelus Nielson No, they say that because they used to be gambling devices before flippers were introduced. They were banned for decades in areas then a guy set up a demo for a judge and called all his shots to prove it was skill based. The Judge agreed and pinball was back.

Okay, so I think the company are genius!! Think about this. They keep the amounts low for people passing by. That means it is like an American arcade room. You're going to either dump off "extra balls" like people drop extra tickets. Basically, they turned a casino into an arcade room for adults! 🤣🤣 fucking genius! They aren't keeping the prices low to show it's now about gambling. They're keeping it low to keep the "prizes" harshly unequal in value, plus the dump off balls. 🤣 epic!

btw you will never understand becouse what is also adicting is having the winnings directly payed out in this kind of slottys which gives the player something which he can grab and so give him a greater deal of success after heaving won something .
its like the adddicted players at the cash gaming mashines which often let the wins paya out directly before filling the mashine with it again so they can have hold their winnings in hand and weighed it.

anyway this is a very insidious form of gambling and it should never be allowed to spread beyond the shores of Japan.

  • zohanrock
    zohanrock 11 days ago

wow they missed out on the most important part of this whole endeavor. rather than that bottle of sake, you can get a token, usually a small plastic box with a bit of a gold token in the middle, bring that to a shop nearby which has a sign that says TUCK, slip your token/s into a drawer and the teller would exchange it for cash. cold hard yen.

that said, it is a form of gambling and you could easily lose hundreds of dollars in a couple of hours doing this.

need to go to the toilet or have lunch or dinner but you feel that the machine is on the verge of paying out? No need to hold it in or starve yourself, just let the attendent know and they will place a piece of cloth over the machine to reserve it for you for a limited time.

i only watched this video because i thought it was gonna explain how to play and win. like idk what the hell is going on. i guess people say the same thing about slot machines, but all you have to do is read the pay table. is it the same for pachinko?

  • DerekSiems

I played a vintage pachinko machine at a friend's house about 15 or so years ago (his dad had one for some reason, it was basically an antique) and it was a basic pinball-like experience with the mechanical lever to launch the balls like one of the earlier machines in this video.

When I went to Japan recently, I was like "oh yeah, pachinko! I've played that, let's see what it's like in Japan nowadays" and holy god what a fever dream nightmare it has become. It's gone from an endearing simple Plinko Pinball to an unbelievably loud epilepsy fit of flashing lights with a video game going on in a TV screen that makes absolutely no sense. I played a Biohazard one (Resident Evil's name in Japan) and it kept doing some kind of slot machine thing with numbers and then a monster would come out and I was supposed to tap a button or something but everything was in Japanese and I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do.

Even if I had found I was good and could always come out on top winnings-wise I still don't think I could stand going into those parlors because of the obscene noise and smoke clouds from the chain smokers that frequent them.

If anyone knows of a place in Japan that only runs the vintage machines that are quieter, let me know as I really don't care to play the modern ones ever again.

I think we are just built differently and some people honestly aren’t bothered by the machines. For example some females’ high-pitch voices literally give me headaches, but at the same time they are loved by many people who think their voices are cute or something.
