I never wanted to be like my mom - i wanted to be somebody better then just a waitress. Well what was your dad? She seemed to love him more - what did he do so special. What did he contribute? He took her fishing and hunting and went for drives. Her mom worked as a waitress and 2 other jobs to pay for her skating costumes - lessons - or what ever else . The mom always gets the shyt end of the stick. And what was the big deal that her mom put her in her skating costume for class pictures so she could use them as her skating pictures. It was actually a really good idea. Her mom drove her to school everyday. Oh but she was drunk - My mom worked as a waitress - oh but thats how you got to skate on her tips blood sweat and tears. I do not like you Tanya Harding. You have played the victim and bashed your mom for way to long.

Just goes to show how important childhood is to a person and how a bad parenting can destroy you. That's why the traditional family is always under attack- destroy the family= you destroy a person. Destroyed person-easily controlled. People that rule the world (masons) don't want happy people. Let's not let them have their way. Family is everything.

If Tonya knew about the attack, she would never have been stupid enough to make calls asking about Nancy. She worked her whole life for skating she would not make it so easy to get caught. She was set up. One, to make sure she would cover for Jeff if he got caught, two, to blackmail Tonya if she did win the Gold Medal. He has admitted he knew she was only with him to get on the Olympic team. He knew she was going to dump him. People who have dumpsters go nuts if other people use their dumpster, they have to pay to have it emptied, and WILL look through garbage to see who is using their dumpster. Jeff KNEW that would be found. He could have just burned it or threw it in a 7-11 garbage can if really wanted it gone and never to be found.

I like Tonya Harding! She is innocent. She had a rough life with an abusive mother and boyfriend, and it wasn’t fair for everybody to point fingers at her. After seeing I, Tonya, I walk away from the movie knowing she’s innocent. The story that should have been told, instead of what was out there. She didn’t deserve any of the criticism that she got over the years. I appreciate them making the movie because it helped Tonya move on, put her past in the past, and now she has a second chance. She deserves it!

Everyone likes to make one person the hero or victim. But non of us can really say what happened.. however although the attack was horrible Nancy was no princess it was said she was a “diva.” But tonya obviously had a hard time and it’s very obvious. I tonya although we don’t know how accurate it is, it really does show that Tonya was hurt and couldn’t get Nancy out of her head. But it’s the past and we learn from this. Whoever orchestrated the attack can’t really be said but let’s be thankful it wasn’t a deadly attack.

nancy kerrigan was assaulted once, NOT EVEN by the hands of tonya harding. on the other hand, tonya was abused by her own mother, her husband, and basically every single aspect of life after a stupid scandal that she was barely involved in. she could never skate again. kerrigan? says that she never got an apology from tonya when she basically had been apologizing for 20 years. her knee wasnt even broken, just badly bruised, and she went on to skate two weeks later winning silver. (looking like a bitch on the podium). tonya never had anything but skating, and it was taken away from her. ion know about you, but i think shes a strong lady and skater and i respect her.

It's NOT as simple as that. While the movie "I, Tonya" may have taken artistic Licence in some Points (e.g. the Judge banning Tonya from competitive Skating and Coaching while in reality it was the USFSA) the portrayal of Tonya's mother and the abuse was quiote accurate. There are many witnesses (aaccording to various articles and interviews) to back Tonya up. I admit that "I, Tonya" was the starting Point for me to get into Tonya's Story, but I read and watched lots of stuff About the real Tonya and had a good look at the Facts before I made up my mind About her.

That's the thing with abuse though. Most abusers are in denial they are or have abusive habits. That's why they need to seek professional help to realize and overcome.
You don't get to decide you didn't hurt someone. The fact is, she was hurt- and instead of validating her emotions and fixing, you continue to deny and overlook. I personally like Tanya, I believe she just got caught up in a bad situation that just became worse.

Tonya's mother actually believes the lies she tells. Very dangerous.
It's a shame that the coaches could not remove Tonya from that toxic environment, show her some true empathy, love, compassion and support and provide encouragement without conditions or strings. They could have taught her how to be a woman, act like a woman, move with grace & develop some self respect & security. To have amazing coaches that were doing nothing but fighting back against a toxic home environment that was obviously destroying Tonya means nothing---the support she had on the rink from her coaches did not extend to her home.

If everything I saw in the movie "I, Tonya" was mostly true, then that was a very sad time in life for her. If the men in her life were the people that came up with the idea to hurt Nancy Kerrrigan and then followed through, then the law really was twisted up. If it was Tonya's idea, then she deserved the fines and being banned from skating. It seems to me she had a hard life. After viewing the movie I did some followup research. She apparently had a very hard life. Whatever actually happened, what a shame that such a skilled young skater missed her shot at fame and a Gold Medal. Based on her TV interviews I really like her. I hope she has a better life now. Also, something about her Mother didn't seem honest or genuine.

Her "crime" consists of taking some very vague and generic Statements she overheard not seriously (which weren't definite enough to go to the Police with or to the USFSA People, who didn't like Tonya anyway). And she didn't immediately come Forward with the infoamation after she knew who was behind the assault, because she was very afraid of Jeff Gillooly. he had intimidated her in a massive and violent way.
I found a (admittedly very Long, but this is necessary to cover all aspects) good article with an Analysis of all the "hard" evidence against Tonya Harding, coming to the conclusion that most of it is actually very shaky.
I'm not Saying that she behaved perfectly, she did tell some lies at the beginning. But after having had a good look at the Facts, I'm 100% sure that she isn't as guilty as many People want her to be and certainly NOT an "unapologetic criminal".

I liked her until she started all the whinning and complaining. All she does is make excuses and blame her mistakes on something or someone else. She is disrespectful talking about her own mother the way she does when her mom worked ao hard to give her skating lessons. She is a spoiled brat who complained about her mom her whole life. Also, maybe if she was home getting rest instead of out partying maybe she could have done better. She finds a reason to complain and make excuses about her failures instead of taking accountability and correcting her mistakes. I wish i had even a fraction of the opportunities she had growing up. She is ungrateful.

    • Gisa zur Nieden
Gisa zur Nieden 2 месяца назад

She actually doesn't blame anyone for her mistakes. Calling abuse abuse and (still talking About what was done to her... she said in various interviews that she tells her Story in order to help other People who were abused) has NOTHING to do with being ungrateful and a brat. That her mother made some sacrifices for her (to fulfill her OWN Dream and to use her daughter as a ticket out of poverty for the Family) DOESN'T justify the abuse. Also she says (e.g. at the end of this documentary which you can watch completely at ABCnews) that everything she has gone through has made her the Person she is now and that she is GRATEFUL for that.

Tonya was her own worst enemy. She squandered her talent, was woefully unprepared for the Olympics even before the attack on Kerrigan but through threats forced her way onto the team. She didn't train like she should have and was out of shape and banking on a triple axle she hadn't landed in two years. She didn't belong in Lillehammer and even if she didn't know about the plan to attack her rival she only admitted to knowing after the fact when she wanted to save her own skin. She got what she deserved and her humble background is no excuse for her antics both on and off the ice. Read Scott Hamilton book, Landing it. He has quite a bit to say on the subject.

    • Gisa zur Nieden
Gisa zur Nieden 2 месяца назад

If Tonya was in some ways "her own worst enemy" this ahs to do with the trauma she suffered through the abuse by her mother and later Jeff Gillooly. They were her REAL enemies (the People who were supposed to love and support her). She has not only a "humble backgrund", she was ABUSED. I don't mean that as an excuse for everything that went wrong in Tonya's life, but as an Explanation. It really explains a lot of her "Antics". (I was also abused and I know that victims of abuse are often marked as "strange" or "problematic", especially when they are not the "ideal" (sweet, timid) victim but sometimes fight back). She first didn't come Forward with what she knew because she was intimidated by Jeff Gillooly in a very massive and violent way.

In 1994 she was back in shape btw.. She showed at the U.S. Nationals that she belonged in Lillehammer. ( she failed at the Olympics is no wonder, considering the HUGE pressure she was under. I would also have forgotten to bring a spare lace in this Situation...)I can understand that she threatened to sue to get into the team because they wanted to throw her out without already having established that she was guilty.

MICHELLE BLAKE she was trapped in an abusive relationship. The “Why don’t you just leave” crowd will never understand battered women’s syndrome and what it’s like. Jeff likely ramped up his abuse whenever Tonya might have opportunity to shine. I think the 1991 National Championship just caught him off guard. Her skating never recovered after she got back with him prior to the 1992 Olympics.

I'm sure living resentfully through her daughter, she forced a young child to engage in a very hard sport without seeing what she would naturally gravitate to - if it was anyone besides Tonya, the abuse could have been much, much worse. Tonya did the only thing she could do: get so good that she'd be able to get away from Cruella. Tonya is to be commended.

The mother was an alcoholic, so I can see why she had such a hard time. A dysfunctional background that was not Tonya's fault. I can understand a lot of her sadness not having that healthy emotional support. Tonya was an amazing, over the top talented skater, regardless of her background. I can certainly spot disfunction. I think if we were really honest with ourselves and took a look at our own past, I bet a lot of us can understand what she went through emotionally.
