There were quite a few programmes like this back in the day. Proper walkers doing hikes and they focussed on the walk and the scenery. Nowadays they spend more time on the presenters and the bores they 'meet' along the way. The recent Best Walks series with Julia Bradbury have been awful.

I see what's happened here. Part 3 is really part 3 and 4 together and this is part 4 but if you've seen part 3 then you've already seen this last part. Thank you again for making these all available on RUclip :-)

  • snowymatrix thru-walker

I watched the whole series at the start of July 2019 before setting off to Edale to start the walk. Back home for a few weeks now after having completed it and watching the series again because now I know The Way like only those that have walked it can know it! It's a great challenge even now with the flagstones over most of the moors and bogs! :-)

This is how documentaries used to be made, dignified and professional. I love watching these films. I have a lot of respect for the explorers that have been doing this for years. It would be difficult for me to participate because I have a fear of underground open spaces, something like Sarawak chamber would be terrifying.

Amazing series ! I watched one after the other. Fascinated and in awe. What a shame that these brave men have never been recognised for their achievements in exploring the waterways and caves under our feet. Not only for their amazing discoveries but for helping to refine the equipment and making it safer to use. I couldn't help marvel when I looked back and thought of the breathing tube made from bicycle parts and hosepipe that started off this series.... Brave men indeed !!! Many thanks to all who took part and to SID PEROU for sharing this with us. Carole. Kent. UK

A fabulous film. The young people are both a credit to themselves and inspiration for their perseverance. Amusing to hear, incidentally on camera, that the girls read the maps and knew the route, and the guys... The production crew made an interesting choice - and all are younger than would be chosen today. Where are they now? It is good to have a reminder of the challenges of the early Pennine Way - before pavements and diversions. Certainly a great reminder of my walk in '76. (Aged 18 - almost solo. Friends gave up at Black Hill and Calderdale.) It seems fewer now do the whole walk in one go. It's a fabulous walk whatever speed you choose. (Look up Spine Race - Jasmin Paris: 93+ hours January 2019)

Ron is an absolute Legend. He once soloed past me and a friend on a HVS route on Gogarth sea cliffs in North Wales back in the early 80's. He just nodded and said "How-do lads".
