Seemed like sizzle no meat -when I went to web site to configure nothing under 60k all 5.6 sec zero to 60. I have owned several mustangs -the old ones shook me to death after vibrating -not like the tight as a rock Tesla model S that is 6 years old and closing in on 150k miles.

Sun glare is a problem not only from the front - also the side cameras are sensitive. Low angle sun from almost any direction is an issue. Further problems are mist (or rather spray) on side cameras when its raining - especially on freeways.... passing a truck with heavy spray is a big no no. To be honest I don't really see phantom breaking anymore.

I like this. If Tesla’s commitment to the UK and it’s atrocious customer service continues I will consider this over Y when I change my S in 2 years. Tesla really needs to watch it’s back as upsetting current owners will spoil its business. Tesla is currently complacent in the UK which is a recipe for disaster!

I think Elon is on it -he is gradually fixing service-The cars are getting very reliable. Production is getting better all the time. Ford has nothing on Tesla as far as design, battery, or charging network. My own personal service experience has been way better than ANY OEM I have had but I know others have had less than spectacular experiences. The many benefits to living in So Cal are Musk lives close. I have seen him at Burbank before when we were picking up our Model 3. Never said hi but it was nice knowing the boss cared enough to go look.

Sounds like a good first effort, but isn’t that a big battery to achieve that much range?

    • Gerrit Govaerts
      Gerrit Govaerts 8 hours ago

Absolutely , and it only proves again the huge lead Tesla has wrt efficiency : a comparable Model Y RWD needs only a 75 kWh pack for the same 300 mile range , and the Performance Mustang has 50 miles less range than a Performance Model Y , but still needs 25 kWh extra battery (+33%) . That are truly miserable numbers for Ford

When the auto pilot suddenly brakes. Can you overide by pressing the accelerator, or does it continue to brake until you disengage the AP, because it perceives an imminent danger?

    • Glen
      Glen 10 hours ago

usaverageguy you can override by pressing accelerator but in some cases it’s too late as the car has significantly slowed down very quickly with cars behind you barreling down upon you.

Is it a compliance car? Probably. But, they will sell every one they build. Especially in Europe. In America, until the price of gas goes up to it's REAL cost, EVs are going to be a hard sell. And dealers have no incentive to sell them in most states.

    • usaverageguy
      usaverageguy 10 hours ago

@goodfella21f Will Europe buy this car? We will know in about 18 months.

  • Hatchet Jack
    Hatchet Jack 12 hours ago

I applaud Ford for this move. If it was a compliance car, I don't think they would have put the Mustang name on it. Ford is also coming out with an all-electric F150. That's their two biggest, iconic models so I do think it's the beginning of Ford's transition to all EV's.

  • L Brenner
    L Brenner 19 hours ago

Yes, although the I haven’t really driven during times of sun glare, it bothers me that Autopilot has an issue with it. However, I’m well versed in the phantom braking caused by shadows cast by overhead bridges, etc. during sunny days. I’ve heard that the really hard braking that used to happen is somewhat reduced since the Version 10 update but I don’t really notice a difference. I’d hoped that all of Tesla’s sensor suite that includes radar might compensate for the visual reasoning that Autopilot currently lacks. We humans can see a crumpled paper bag in the road whereas a Tesla may assume it’s a rock that should be avoided. By now, the on-board radar should overcome this limitation by recognizing the mass of anything the cameras see. I think that ability should also confirm that shadows have no mass and be interpreted as no threat and eliminate Autopilot’s proclivity to avoid it. I respect Tesla’s desire to program Autopilot to err on the side of safety but, sometimes phantom braking can be hard enough to possibly result in a rear end collision. I’ve been tempted to use a “DON’T TAILGATE” bumper sticker until it’s figured out!

  • L Brenner

‘Bout time! Consumer Reports has always done whatever they could to bash Tesla. It’s even caused me to stop reading their biased bullcrap, especially after I went contrary to their words of misguided wisdom and and bought my Model 3. I think they’ve finally reached the point, as Omar said in his prior comment, where the divergence of Consumer Report’s bias and the positive reviews from Tesla owners and their sales is overwhelmingly undeniable, even for them. Owning my Tesla proved to me that Consumer Reports was so dissociated from the truth that I no longer find value in their publication. Now, it seems that the evidence outside of ownership might be enough to persuade Consumer Reports to begin reporting the truth in order to save their skin.

  • Andy Feimster
    Andy Feimster 20 hours ago

I agree. In fact the sun glare issue is one of several hardware limitations that will make FSD impossible in current Teslas. No amount of AI can overcome the physical limitations of the camera designs. I guess Elon will give us FSD customers a Powerwall as compensation? This is a serious issue, charging thousands in advance for something Tesla will never deliver.

  • Omar Rainford

Sir Moshe, truth be told; Consumer report had to place Tesla on their recommended listing as it would only show that their report is of no truth in value if they are saying one thing and Tesla sales and stock are reflecting contrary records.

Reminds me of back in 2013 Mar 28-May 31 the stock jumped from $45 to $102. The shorts felt the squeeze there too. Especially by Oct it was $193. Just wait for the truck reveal it will jump again LOL Personally I think the only reason certain hedge funds short Tesla is the have hidden investors telling them what to do. Big Oil doesn't care about loosing a few billion in pocket change to delay EV's. The longer they delay them the more money the make. They don't care about making money by investing. They make billions a day by delaying it even just a few days.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a bubble on my model s instrument screen. I got the earliest date for service and added a photo. It was about 2 weeks out. I got a text back that said “maybe a Tesla ranger could come earlier “. I said ok and then the said “sorry you have to go to the service center for the instrument cluster change and offers me a much sooner date. I got a text the day before as a reminder. A reminder in the morning and I drove down to the center. The funny part is. The bubble worked its way off the screen. Anyway they knew it needed replacement. But... no more loaners $100/day Uber it they would reimburse me $55/day for a rental. I took the Uber. As I work from home it can borrow my wife’s car. Anyway they said 3 days. And actually was done the next day. I got a text saying it was going in service then another text with an estimated competition and the finished 1 day early but it was at the end of the day so they said I could pick it up in the morning. I ubered back and picked up my car. 2014 p85 and now it has a new and much crisper looking instrument cluster. So nice. Under warranty. It wasn’t the same. No loaner but for the first time they under promised and over delivered. I did notice a big stock of parts to. They used to bring in your car and then order parts. I am in Arizona and there are 2 service centers in the Phoenix area. Mine is in Tempe and they are awesome.

They even sent a survey on service quality when car still not sorted! Nasty, horrible service from a team who do not care about customers. Out of 12 weeks he has had the car for only 3 after paying £60000! It should not have left the factory as one mark was under the lacquer.

Why on earth would you leave a car with minor paint blemishes with the dealer for 9 weeks, that makes absolutely zero sense. Report it, then drop it off ONLY when they’re ready to fix it, should be a 2 day job in an approved Tesla body shop. (I find your story hard to believe to be honest, FUD me thinks. Jack Rickard's analysis of who is really funding the shorts, is a compelling theory. Short interest in Tesla (the highest in the markets) continues, despite increasing evidence of Tesla's consolidation and viability. This is not about skeptics taking a "bet", and doing their best to engineer some winnings, but a full-blown conspiracy from the oil and traditional auto industries, who (as Rickard points out) are netting $2bn a DAY from their operations, and who are doing their damndest to "stay their execution". They consider their losses from short activity more as "an investment" in stifling Tesla as much as they possibly can. But... as any rational person can see, it is ultimately a futile quest. Sustainable energy and transport are increasingly being recognised as affordable and viable. Musk's (Tesla's) vision and mission has never altered - "To acellerate the transition to sustainable energy and transport"... and we are starting to see and experience that acelleration.

Armored personnel carrier is a reference to the highly sloped front and back and slightly sloped sides of upper body, and angular appearance overall, contrasting with Tesla sedans. This enables it to be highly aerodynamic yet visually standout. Lower body is straight with fold down to step doors that seal for flotation. Flatbed functionality seems likely.

I know you are focusing on indivduals who have shorted Tesla stock because they believe the stock is overvalued and at some point will go down below what they sold it for and thus have a profit when they purchase it back. However, you should not fault this procedure of selling a stock short. It is vital in making the US Stock market efficient. If shorting stocks was not available all of us would be playing on average a higher price for stocks we want to purchase. Selling short makes shares available to those who want to buy. If there were all buyers and no sellers the price of a stock goes up, short sellers are making available shares that they borrow to those who want to buy. Also, a high short position in a stock is bullish as we have seen when Tesla announced their 3rd qtr earnings and Tesla went up 70 points over the next 2 days as the short sellers went in to buy Tesla stock to cover their short positions. In the end Tesla must be profitable to be successful and short selling will not be a factor in that determination.

  • Jmaninaz1
    Jmaninaz1 3 days ago

Your comments are spot on--both in your criticisms of the short sellers (who have gotten exactly what they deserve) and focusing on the positives of an American company providing thousands of jobs, raising awareness about climate change and pushing us to sustainable energy future we can all feel good about. How, exactly is FAC & PSA going to dominate the EV market , were is the Battery factory ? where is the Electric Drivetrain factory ? Tesla would be Dumb to supply them with Battery cells or the Tesla Electric skateboard. I think Tesla will still dominate because of GF3 Shanghai and GF4 in Berlin (next year) we shall see. Also, Model Y begins Shipping in 2020 by Summer, perhaps sooner, and the Tesla Pickup truck event is Next Week, cant wait for that. You know what they say " the Bigger they are, the Harder they will Fall " I think this holds True for FAC & PSA merger. Neither company has ANY expertise in Production of EV, just like all Legacy auto makers , they can ONLY do Catalog Engineering, meanwhile Tesla innovates. TESLA is going to Science the $%#@ out of the Tesla model Y and Pickup.

as a shareholder I don't want to see dividends given out for at least five more years, invest that money back into the company to expand and innovate even faster.

Tesla's own AI chip is 3 years ahead. Real world car data capture for AI training is orders of magnitude ahead. The die is cast, 4K long term

I agree that the Tech companies will compete by providing tech and maybe components to car companies. However, it would be foolish to assume that Toyota, Hyundai and BYD will fail to compete. Toyota has put more electric drive motors in its cars than anyone else. The R&D from the Prius is now being applied to make the RAV4 and even the Corolla very efficient. Toyota has had engineers designing it's electric drive components for years. Toyota is also investing millions in battery R&D. Toyota has a FCEV, which has no internal combustion engine, and its electric drive components can be applied to battery only electric vehicles (BEVs) in future. BYD and the Korean battery manufacturers are also well placed to compete in the BEV market. Hyundai and Toyota have built up a reputation for reliability and long life which will give them a competitive advantage in the BEV market.

With Tesla in Europe will be like Apple. At first everyone will be delighted, but other companies will not sleep and will make cheaper and better cars. nn Unfortunately, tesla is not a car for the average citizen is too expensive.

The problem is that the fossil car industry move at slow pace. Silicon Valley moves much faster. The only way the big tech companies can come into auto is to acquire one or more of the dinosaurs.

I think you are somewhat right, I think Hyundai are the main legacy competition for Tesla, the ioniq is the best car I owned (I own a hybrid because as you know there is no infrastructure in Israel) and they are putting a lot of effort to make great electric cars, definitely not Tesla killers but it’s a normal car and for some people Tesla is too much a spaceship

The reality is that the EV market is so small, most of the big boys among the automakers aren't willing to make the necessary investments to be a real competitor. I think Tesla will be the master of the 3% EV segment for years to come.

I believe that many players want to bring Tesla down or at least knock them out of the way. However, there is no clear competitor yet. My belief is that Tesla will continuing innovating and will stay well ahead of the bloodhounds.

The Electric Israeli When it comes to cars weather they be gas powered or electric I believe it’s each individuals right to own a car they can drive of their choosing I believe in the rights of the individual I’m terrified of the day when a flatbed truck comes to my house with a warrant to take my car away to be scrapped because it’s too dangerous to drive or it interferes with robotaxis I’d rather die then see my car get destroyed

Electric cars and wind and solar power are the future, but Trump is to stupid to see that and is in the pockets of our dirty polluting oil industry.

With Ford getting out of the car market in the US and at the same time model 3 selling well there, that looks good for Tesla bringing in the model Y. SUVs are extremely popular worldwide and the trend. Personally I only own a second car heavy SUV purely to pull a 8M caravan. However the lighter model Y would be good principle family car for us and for many - and I bet it still drives exciting. It should outsell the model 3.

I currently drive a Ford Edge. I'm thinking about getting a Model Y. Even though the M3 is a great car, I'm not interested in buying one. So if I do get a Model Y, it would not be taking away from M3 sales.
