OK. THAT'S THE LAST ONE. We're taking a break from 5700 XTs for a little bit to get back on other stuff. Thanks for your patience. We haven't done a massive suite of partner models like this since probably the GTX 1080 Ti, and we needed a recap then too. This should help people who don't want to watch 10 other reviews. If you'd like to support our efforts, please consider grabbing a toolkit, modmat, GPU anatomy poster, or other cool item from our store: store.gamersnexus.net/

if anybody can look at this right now and reflect on AMD's past. we are right back with the r9 series. AMD was just starting to catch up but the only way they could do it is making a bunch of cards that ran super hot and consumed a lot of power. the rx 5700xt is the r9 fury reincarnated. whether we like it or not Nvidia is going to take the lead again with the next generation of gpus. and the only reason I say that is because Nvidia switching up their architecture. but regardless AMD is pushing Nvidia to have to make better cards instead of sitting there content.

I think the Sapphire Nitro Plus looks the best overall aesthetically. The plastic angular designs on the gigabyte and the red devil just look so dumb in my opinion. If you have a vertical mount for a gpu like that... just.. please don't.

I have an XFX 5700 DD ULTRA (same cooler design as the THICC) flashed to an XT BIOS.. The thermals really aren't that bad, once you remove the backplate and extraneous plastic shrouds- I saw a drop in temps around 10 to 15C. I was concerned about memory temps, but tightening the screws on the GPU mounts seems to have brought them under 80C at load. My sample happened to have a welded memory plate, and I tested a magnet on the plate which seemed to be made of aluminum - I've heard the newer revision THICC II has a copper memory plate. Purchased in January of 2020, they seemed to have resolved most of the issues. My only concern at this point is hotspot temps still get over 90C on heavy load despite core temps being in the mid 70's. Granted, I have a pretty aggressive OC on it at 2100mhz. Other complaint is that the fans they used aren't the quietest and they seem to be slow in ramping up meaning I have to set a very aggressive fan curve to keep up with the temps. Overall, good value - for 300 bucks it seems I can match or exceed the performance of most of the XT cards out of the box.

Hey can you please address the numerous driver issues in the 5700xt ? The drivers are absolutely terrible and I highly regret getting that card for that sole reason , every update comes with a new problem , black screens , stuttering , bad performance you name it. Honestly extremely un satisfied and should have spent the extra 100 dollars for the 2070 super instead.

A late comment that shows how bad the support for this card is.
I have the Sapphire Nitro+ declinaison of this card, and yep the hardware is good, it's looks rock solid too.
The TriXXX software is a nice addition it's clear and complete unlike the older version of it, I guess some users will blame the lack of option for the RGB part but I don't care about RGB unless it's randomly stop all fans/pumps on X570 and Asus MB.
Now for the bad parts that may make you avoid this card : again it's AMD signature.
-Don't even think of playing DX12, it crashs.
-IF YOU USE AN AVR or Screen/TV speakers trough HDMI DON'T BUY THIS CARD. From it's release date it was bugged : it was not that seen at first because another bug masked this one. If you have like 75% load on it, the sound was kinda working, until last january driver update, since the first bug put the card at 100% load, owners didn't realize the sound part was jinxed. Now that the power is beheaving almost as expected, you'll get sound cut, disabling itself, and now getting drone noise at more than 75% load randomly. The less load the more cuts you got, so really bad for listening/watching streamings. Even greater if you intend to plug this card into an AM4 itx card , since most of them don't have a optical output contrary to intel's one.
-AMD is blaming plugged hardware, since they have an history of having SuuUUuu--uuch bulletproof drivers let's believe it, especially when an old hd3870, a hd7970/R9 on win10 and bleeding edge open driver on Gentoo for the rx5700xt actually work.
-if you use a GPU ressources consuming application like Blender or a game, and switch focus to an other like a basic browser or text editor like Atom you'll get black screen, GPU reset, application crash... and loose sound settings ofc. Which is especially annoying with how win10 (doesn't) handle dolby/DTS with the new plugins thingy. This happen in both single or multi monitors, hdmi or displayport ofc. Before any flame my PSU is a 800W.

I used Radeons from way back, I didn't need Cuda but OpenCL, and NVidias were a pain the 455 with the linux drivers. I also used AMD CPUs way back before even my K7.
But this is why AMD will never subdue the outdated hardware from its concurrents : it's not enough to release good hardware if you cannot release the soft part to actualy make use of it, and I didn't write "full use" of it. Worst! It even stupid to blame other manufacturers when it obvious your the one to blame, AMD was never capable of releasing a decent driver /microcode out of the box, the x570 too is proof of that. As a main linux user I'll keep this card, but if I was a windows user I would have asked for a refund and went green for the first time in ages. It's sad that a gamer targeted product does so bad with the main gaming OS and purpose. I guess we will have a working driver when the card will be obsolete by two generations like it's often the case with AMD products.

I really wanted to leave Nvidia and purchased a Sapphire Nitro+ OC 5700XT. We can say what we want but AMD drivers are still not state of the art software. The Sapphire is a hell of a beast and run well and silent. But I refunded it because of lack of stability of the drivers. I stick with NV (sadly) but the a huge difference between both brands in terms of drivers optimization.

So, it's definitely between the MSI Gaming X and the Sapphire Pulse, and it's so hard to decide! The Gaming X has a higher clock and higher power consumption, at the same thermals and noise, I think it's the one to get, but I've had my mind set on the Pulse as I've owned Sapphire many times with no problems. ARGH! Someone point me to one of these two, or a third option.

Hello I changed my 1060 to a 5700xt and it seems that there are complications. Indeed, I have a blackscreen at startup. I uninstalled the driver of my 1060, uninstalled the card from the device manager, thinking that it was a bios problem, I updated it. Exited, and replaced the CMOS battery. In short, a lot of stuff. I have a PCIE slot, one seems to work with my 1060, but not the other. I cannot use the bottom slot with the 5700xt because the card is too large and is blocked by sata connectors. With my 5700xt, none of them work. The card is powered, the LEDs light up, the fans do not rotate but it is surely linked to the fact that the card only uses the fans if necessary. I am a bit lost and do not know what to try because it surely goes beyond my knowledge that is why I write to you. Thanks in advance for those who took time to read me.

You can use the program Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU).
Boot into safe mode (With your 1060) and launch DDU. Then select clean and shutdown. Install the 5700XT and boot again.
      Hope it helps!
